Proportional Scaling Using Shift Button Not Working
In the 2017.1 release of InDesign, the ability to hold Shift and scale objects proportionally seems to have disappeared. I know for me this is a major functionality problem that is increasing the time I have to spend on current projects. I've checked support forums and others are encountering this problem, but I haven't yet seen a solution.
Hello All,
Thank you for your patience all this while; we really appreciate your support!
Our investigation suggests that one of common reasons for the problem is that certain software (mostly antivirus and other security applications) and browser extensions happen to enable “Secure Keyboard Entry” on Mac machines due to which some keys such as Shift key in this case do not perform the desired action in InDesign.
For now I request you to follow the below provided KB doc for the quick workaround of the problem.
https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/features-do-not-work-keyboard-keys-mac.html
In the comments section many of the users have confirmed that disabling Webroot SecureAnywhere (a security app) has resolved the issue for them. Please note that, the problem may not be related to a particular software; there could be a different application or antivirus which might be causing the problem by enabling Secure Keyboard Entry on Mac.

Holding 'Shift' + drag to scale objects proportionally has just stopped working for me as well. At the same time, the 'Command/ctrl' + 'Shift' + Drag to override multiple master items has also stopped working. I can, however, click individual items to release them.
The number of bugs on each release (and not just InDesign) is quite simply unacceptable. -

Same problem here!

I am having the exact same issue, only in Indesign. Seems like any keyboard shortcut that involves the shift button doesn't work. Please fix this soon! It slows down any project so much when you cant use this shortcut.

What computer are you using?
I am having the same issue on Microsoft Surface Pro 4 - did not experience this issue previously on my desktop. It also hides the bottom of my swatches panel (can't scroll or see tools at bottom of swatches panel), and hides the thumbnails of my master pages in the pages panel. -

Same problem - I'm not able to proportionally scale any objects within Illustrator (shift+scale). Restarted program and computer, reset all preferences with no luck.

Apologies for posting that in 'ideas' but I couldn't figure out how to report a 'bug'

I have the same problem! I've reported it on the forums but nothing happened... I'm working a Mac with OSX el capitan 10.11.6 and Indesign CC 2018.
This thing is so frustrating! Illustrator also have bugs with the keyboard commands when you're not on english.
Hope you'll fix this. -

keyboard shortcuts not working properly in InDesign CC 2018 version 13.0.1. It does not appear to be the result on any new software install or update that I know of. Simply started to occur at some point so that functionality such as uniform scaling through SHIFT + COMMAND, or linear movement with the cursor of elements so that you can move them up or down, and left or right, using the SHIFT key while clicking and dragging, no longer work. Other key command for centering type (COMMAND + C) or placing images into image boxes (COMAND + D) work, Andy advise and specific steps required to resolve the problem would be greatly appreciated! Working on and iMac, running High Sierra. Thx.

I have the exact same problem, both with InDesign as with Adobe Muse. I can't use the SHIFT key and also the SHIFT + CMND doesn't work. It is a big problem Adobe, Please fix this! I tried to install a version earlier like 2017, didn't work at all. Nothing. So I can't fix it. I don't have the virus software they are talking about. So it can't be that...

Same as Ashleigh... came back from holidays and certain "shortcut" buttons not working:
• SHIFT KEY for quick drag proportional scaling,
• OPTION KEY for manual scaling,
• SHIFT KEY for moving objects vertical/horizontal,
• OPTION KEY to quick drag duplicate an object.
Very frustrating and slowing me down!! -

Hello Ravi,
Lucky for me the next day we had our tech guy in who was able to solve my issue. After reading online message boards I discovered it was an issue with some kind of virus software, and although I don’t quite understand the solution, the best I can help you help others is to say he went into my keyboard settings that directly controlled the virus software (there was a specific name of the software everyone was mentioning on the message boards, and the tech guy knew it, but I’d never heard of it) and changed the shift button controls deep in the settings for that specific program. He did it in a matter of minutes. It was very impressive and if he wasn’t here to help me, I don’t think I would have been able to fix it, but I am not gifted with the technical side of design.
I believe it only started after some kind of update with the virus program.

Experiencing the same issues as previous commenters on my design office imac. Shift not locking objects in for straight dragging, or proportional scaling.

Should add that this problem is confined to InDD, I am not having a problem in Illustrator.

I am having the same problem and it's really causing me problems with my files! No solutions anyone can come up with? I'd rather not reboot my computer but if that will fix it I will.

I can not scale an image box by holding down shift key. Looks like quite a few people have the same issue. PLEASE fix this or provide a reasonable work around! Restarting every time this happens is not an option.

Also having same problems listed, below - across all types of projects. Key functionality has simply disappeared. Why only only response from Admin since October 31 and no solution offered or even an effort to let us know that it is being worked on? This is clearly a big problem for everyone!
