Scroll bar disappears in Pages panel, swatches panel,Layers panel and background task panel loses its boxes on the right.
2017.1 Release, 12.1.0.56 x64 build
The pages panel loses its scroll bar and doesn't display all pages. Panel needs to be opened wide to display anything. This cuts off easy access to document's later pages.
Hello All,
Thank you for your patience all this while. The fix of the issue is now part of InDesign’s latest update, Id 13.1
Update your InDesign through Creative Cloud app to Id 13.1
Thanks,
Abhinav

One more issue that often comes back, beyond disappearing small dots in layer panel: when preferences are corrupted some functions like "Undo" / "Redo" / "Save" / "Save as" don't work and so InDesign doesn't save files any more. The only way to recover the work you're working on, is to export the file in .idml extension, quit the app, restart, open .idml file and save to another .indd file: TERRIBLE!
Ok for having new features every six months, but first you should solve these OLD problems: they are still the same from CC 2015! -

InDesign's preferences are corrupting continuously. Very often, when I launch the application, the layer panel loses the small dot that enables dragging elements between layers, and so each time I have to delete preferences and then restore them and configure from the beginning. The problem still happen from ID CC 2015 and now we are at CC 2018!
PLEASE SOLVE THE PROBLEM: I pay every year and I want a running version. -

Every time I launch InDesign app this problem is still here: layer panel loses small dots for dragging elements.

I still have the same problem, always from ID CC 2015, and it's really very boring every time to delete InDesign Preferences and then restoring them from Preference Panel. Please solve the problem!!!

Continued from last post. I don't think the brand of the external display matters (I have several display of various make). It's just the resolution and scaling.
For my 4K laptops, if you stick to 1920x1080 resolution (which means wasting the extra money for the 4K display). There will be no problem with the external display. But once you cannot resist the temptation to set resolution to 4K, and accidentally opened InDesign. It's fucked.

1. I'm having this problem for a very long time(ever since I entered 4k display). I used to have a Lenove Y50 (2014) with 4k 3840x2160 display, I have connected to a external monitor with 1920x1080 resolution. I'm currently using ThinkPad P50 with 4k 3840x2160 display, and a docking station connected to 22' Dell 1920x1080 monitor. Both have experienced the problem.
The DPI scaling is tricky. When I use the laptop alone, I will have the resolution set to 4K and 200% DPI scaling. When I have the external monitors, I will have the resolution set to 1080p and 100% DPI scaling to match the external monitors. (because windows cannot do two scaling at the same time)
2. both monitors are working.
3. you can still scroll it ( I'm not so sure since I've fixed it, or you cannot scroll at all). The problem is there are always pages cannot be seen. Tucked beneath the window. So you cannot access the final couple of pages.
4. It doesn't go away at all. It just happens when you are using 4K display and external monitors, and it stays like that, forever.
5. I don't how exactly this is triggered. Since it can only be triggered once. Then the scrollbar is fucked forever. But I know that if you are just using 4K display laptop alone is fine. But when you are swiching between 4K and 1080p with a external monitor, there is this problem. -

Are you kidding me? This bug is STILL there after installing the latest 2018 versions of Lightroom ... I'm really really frustrated with Adobe and not only with InDesign ... Don't get me started on Lightroom.

I am on a macbook pro with an external Dell monitor (P2715Q Display) and the scroll bar on my scripts panel is disappearing. Not sure if this is the same issue, not working with multi-page documents (I will check if it affects the page panel next time it happens), but annoying because I need my scripts panel to be easily accessible

Has this issue been resolved since the last post on 9/26/17? I have an HP Envy with Windows 10 installed and I keep losing my Indesign CC scroll bar . However it only happens when I open certain Indesign files. It's getting frustrating at this point. A resolution would be greatly appreciated.

I have got the same annoying issue with a Dell XPS 15 9560 2017 laptop with 4k display. Using no external display(s).

Have the same problem with Dell Precision 9550 with a 4K display and a Dell dock, with two screens 2560x1440. It's easy to ctrl+alt+shift, but it is an annoying situation to start customizing your program again and again.

Every now and then the little dot that is essential for moving artwork between layers disappears. The fix is to deleted the 'InDesign Saved Data' file from the caches, (Users > 'your user name' > Library > Caches > Adobe InDesign > Version 12.0 > en_US > InDesign SavedData) but we should not have to keep doing this.
There is a similar problem where the check box for deactivating sync to CC for styles, colours etc is just not there. This can also be fixed by deleting the InDesign Saved Data file from the caches.
These issues have been around since at least InDesign CC 2015 and have still not been addressed.

I'm having the same issue, but for me, also the scrollbar for the "paragraph styles" panel disappear. Main monitor: 1920×1200, and external: 3840×2160

John, are you using external monitors? Or just the laptop's 4K display?

Abhinav,
The user I'm working with is using a Surface Book (3000x2000 resolution display) and a Surface Dock connected to two external displays (1920x1080). It would be good to know if other none-Surface users are using external displays. I've noticed that laptops with ultra high resolution displays that are connected to external displays sometimes introduce problems where programs do no display correctly. I've also noticed that these display issues go away when restarting the laptop with the external displays connected. In the case of InDesign, something gets changed indefinitely in the preferences files which retains the problem of the scroll bars disappearing. So a good way to try and replicate this issue is to use a InDesign project with many pages, on a high resolution laptop such as a Surface Pro/Book, connected to one or more external displays with lower resolution. While working in InDesign on this type of setup, disconnect the external monitors temporarily. Try minimizing and maximizing the program. Try working within the pages palette. That's all I can advise at this time, as we still haven't identified the root cause.

Hi Jerry,
Sure thing that I will try to reproduce the issue. When you say Surface Pr0, is it Surface Pro 4 you are talking about?
I would also like to know from you if there is a particular step that eventually distorts the Pages panel's UI?
