1. Font no longer recognized. FIX NOW......

   Prior to the InDesign 16.0.2 update, fonts worked fine. Now - fonts I've used for years (such as Futura Extra Bold) no longer work.

   This needs to be fixed. NOW..

2. when creating new document the bottom of that window doesn't appear

   I just downloaded Indesign but when creating new document the bottom of that window doesn't appear, so can't press "Create"

3. 'New hyperlink from URL' no longer creating 'Hyperlink' Character Style

   InDesign 16.0 2021

   When using the 'New Hyperlink from URL' command, the default 'Hyperlink' Character Style is no longer being created, or applied if already present. The interactive hyperlink functionality still works, but no styling is being applied to the selected text as previously (in fact, if any Character Style is already present, it is being removed).

   Previously, this command would convert the selected text to a hyperlink, and would also apply a 'Hyperlink' character style at the same time.

   Please restore the previous function, or enable a user toggle to revert to the previous behavior is this is an intentional change (and not a bug).

6. Right to Left direction select opposite direction

   When we want to select a character or word by using cursor key in Arabic text, it select the opposite direction, i.e. Ctrl + Left arrow key, Shift + Left arrow key, Ctrl + Shift + Left arrow key, or Ctrl + Shift + Left arrow key, will select a character or word on the right of cursor, even if already set to "Visual" in preference for cursor movement.

9. IDS on Windows: Extreme slowness in ExtendScript execution via SOAP connection (with weird workaround)

   SETUP

   • IDS Server 14.0.3.433 running on Windows Server 2019 (build 17763.864)

   • Local connection using "sampleclient.exe"

   • Two test scripts (attached):
     Slow script: "adobe-ids-win-slow.js" (approx 275 KB in size)
     Fast script: "adobe-ids-win-fast.js" (approx 275 KB in size)

   PROBLEM

   There are two scripts to compare. They are both of identical size, does nothing but declare a variable and return a string value. However, while execution of one of the scripts take a fraction of a second, the other script typically runs for > 10 seconds before completing.

   TESTS AND OBSERVATIONS

   1) This takes excessive time to run (typically 13 seconds on my test machine):

      C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop>"c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CC Server 2019\sampleclient.exe" -host localhost:8190 c:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\adobe-ids-win-slow.js
      Script result (std__string): Done
   

   2) This completes quickly (typically in less than 0.1 seconds):

      C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop>"c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CC Server 2019\sampleclient.exe" -host localhost:8190 c:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\adobe-ids-win-fast.js
      Script result (std__string): Done
   

   3) Adding the "-server" flag to the slow test will make it run fast, since the script isn't passed via SOAP but instead evaluated directly from local disk. This tells me the parsing of the ExtendScript statements isn't slow in itself so the difference seems to lie in the SOAP request handling.

   4) Now a really weird part: removing the very first space (before the comment on line 1) in "adobe-ids-win-slow.js" makes it run almost as fast as the fast script when repeating test 1) above. It turns out that "adobe-ids-win-slow.js" MUST start with a /* */-style comment in the very first byte to run fast; adding the space back, or removing the comment completely, makes it evaluate slowly again. I've tried other tokens such as semicolon, //-style comment, curly brackets etc but none had the same effect.

   5) In contrast to the change in 4), adding spaces before the comment, or removing the comment entirely, from "adobe-ids-win-fast.js" makes no difference in its evaluation performance.

   6) Another strange discrepancy is that even when "adobe-ids-win-slow.js" is modified to run fast using the change described in 4) above, the speed is still slower than the "adobe-ids-win-fast.js" variant. They both declare a string of same length but the data INSIDE the string is different, but while "adobe-ids-win-fast.js" completes in < 0.1 seconds the modified "adobe-ids-win-slow.js" takes closer to a full second.

   7) All of the tests above run at good speed (less than a second) when connecting to IDS 14.0.2.324 on macOS (tested with Catalina 10.15.7). The minor difference in speed between the slow and fast scripts seen in 6) is still present though, but is again eliminated if the "-server" option is used.

   OTHER COMMENTS

   I tried running Microsoft's Windows Performance Analyzer to capture what the slow IDS is doing during the long wait. I found that the overhead is located in calls from AFL (Adobe File Library) to the NT kernel, but without debug symbols I couldn't pinpoint it in more detail. My totally unconfirmed suspicion is that gSOAP/2.7 (as returned in the "Server" HTTP header in IDS connections) is applying some content sniffing to detect encoding, data format or other properties of the inlined script, but why this would only take place on Windows is a mystery, and it's also odd that the initial code comment would short-circuit this and improve performance dramatically.

   I've also tried disabling various Windows Security settings (Firewall, Virus & Threat Protection, Exploit Protection etc) in case that was interfering with network I/O but I've not found any improvement in that area.

   The slowness is not inherent in "sampleclient.exe" either since the root problem was first observed using our own HTTP client, as was the weird workaround of adding the comment string. I'm just using "sampleclient.exe" here to set up a self-contained test case.

10. Photoshop .psb files grayed out in InDesign Open window.

    Hi,
    Photoshop .psb files grayed out in InDesign Open window. You cannot place PSB images using the "Place" command. However, you can drag and drop the file from the desktop into a InDesign picture box.

    Photoshop version is 22.1.1
    InDesign version 16.0.2
    macOS Catalina v10.15.7

    In fact, graying out of legitimate files happens on Catalina with other software. Excel sometimes cannot access to .xls or .xlsx files via the Open window.

    Sometimes legitimate files appear grayed out when the Open window is first opened but may turn black after few seconds.

11. revisions are not showing

    When my collaborators comment with a pin everything works but when they highlight a text, I see the comment but 1 time out of 2 the highlighted text is not highlighted. So I can't see where my collaborator wants me to make changes.

12. 'Background tasks' que updating fonts and so cannot PDF files

    I cannot PDF as in the 'Background tasks' que its updating fonts and I cannot stop it doing this and have to restart InDesign. Sort it out please. Also Adobe fonts are often not accessible and as a Studio we have been told to avoid using them.

15. Gradient scaling breaks/does not work when copying from Illustrator

    OS: Mac OSX Catalina 10.15.5 (19F101)
    InDesign: 15.1.1
    Illustrator: 24.2.1

    I think InDesign has a bug. Steps to reproduce:
    1. Create a shape in Illustrator (RGB OR CMYK) and insert a color gradient.
    2. Copy it and paste in in InDesign Document
    3. Scale it (bigger) in InDesign and it breaks the vector apart (the part with the gradient)

17. Adobe PDF presets / exports not working in InDesign CC 2021 (v16.0)

    Adobe PDF Presets initially worked in CC 2021 when first updated. (I don't know what version that was.) And they worked as recently as last week for me. Today however, none of the presets work, whether the original ones or custom presets I created. I went back to v15.1.3 and all the same presets work correctly.

    I don't know if InDesign has had an incremental update, but this started happening after the most recent Creative Cloud update. I have experienced two types of errors: (1) Export seems to finish but an alert is given that export failed; (2) Export hangs up in the middle and just stops.

18. sharing for review - review comments not getting saved

    I have had a couple different reviewers make some comments, pins, etc and then close out of the review and when they went back into the review their comments were not there.

19. Cmd-O or Cmd-N doesn't work after InDesign starts up.

    This has been an annoying bug for a while. If you open indesign, then use the command-O or command-N key to open/create a file, nothing happens. You just get an alert sound.

20. Opening ID files from server: Missing required parameter

    I've been using my Apple Time Capsule connected to my WiFi-Router as a wireless HD for a couple of years now. Since I updated to Mac OS 11 (Big Sur) I cannot open InDesign (v 16.0.1) files directly from my Time Capsule. I get an error which should translate to something like "Missing required parameter "form" for method "open" (see attached). When I copy the file on my desktop everything works like a charm.
