2. Retained overwrites

   While doing heavy make-up of book texts I often need to get in a line or to space out a line. Doing this without having countless paragraph overrides (with the danger that by clicking "clear override" or applying a script everything would be lost) the only possibility so far is to make numerous paragraph copies, e.g., "body", "body+5", "body+10", "body-5" etc.
   A possible solution could be to have the paragraph style definition with some kind of "ranges", maybe "Tracking: 0 - +30" with a default value "0". And the actual value could be selected in a panel. Hopefully someone has a better idea how to implement this better.

4. Stroke cap and paragraph rule styles

   It would be incredibly useful to have the option for more control over the end cap in stroke styles/paragraph rules. For example, in Illustrator there is the option to use a softened end cap as opposed to a straight cut off, but InDesign only has a straight edge option, making it difficult to build an elegant line style without importing it as a graphic (this feature is sorely lacking in pursuits such as book design). The stock line styles feel garish or clunky and it would be oh-so-nice to be able to edit these or have more options to choose from. Please provide a more sophisticated panel for this.

5. Quick key and/or eyedropper tool option for ALL CAPS and lowercase in inDesign

   Having to use dropdown menu (and noting conspicuously absent quick key notation) is so tedious when you have to do this 100 times

6. Add option to ignore images or fills when drag-selecting using Direct Selection tool.

   Often dragging a select box over frame corners will pick up interior fills or images and move them when all I want is to move the frame corners or vertices.

7. Share for Review Strikethrough Comments Become Unmapped when Text is Deleted

   My editor often uses the Strikethrough text tool in Share for Review. When I delete the specified text, the corresponding Strikethrough comment becomes unmapped. This is a problem in large documents because it is difficult to remember what part of the document the now unmapped comment referred to. My editor needs to be able to confirm that her requested edits were resolved.

8. Import images linked locally to creative cloud library from within any CC app

   Currently if I want to use a new asset that I've downloaded or saved to desktop the process looks like this:

   1. Navigate to CC desktop app
   2. Navigate to existing CC library or create a new one
   3. Drag and drop assets from desktop into library
   4. Go to InDesign (or whichever app)
   5. Navigate to appropriate library
   6. Drag asset from library to working document

   What I'd like is:

   1. Place item from desktop in document
   2. Select the asset in the Links panel
   3. Click "import to current library"
   4. Asset is imported directly to the library and the link is automatically updated to the library version of the asset

9. Clipping masks with varied transparency

   The ability to apply an image as a clipping mask to another image from within InDesign instead of needing to rely on other software like Photoshop would be really helpful.

   I have hundreds of pages that need editing together with 1 - 3 images per page. Each of these images needs a png applied to them as a clipping mask with the text positioned around them. Currently the only way to do this in InDesign is to import something like a .psd file that you can't make live edits on. Constantly flicking between different software to get the layout right for a page is really time consuming.

   Affinity Publisher allows this really easily by simply right clicking an image in the layers panel and selecting Mask to Below. It would be great to see InDesign implement this is such an easy to use way as well.

   The images show the base black and white png you should be able to apply as a mask to a normal image and the effect it should give you. Currently InDesign's clipping masks don't respect the full transparency of the png because all they really do is change the frame and create a hard border.

10. Enlarge the size of the panels; so hard for the eyes with PAO after 40 years (Illustrator and Photoshop have this option in user/interface)

    Cela fait des années qu'à chaque màj d'inDesign j'attends qu'Adobe permette enfin (comme déjà dans Photoshop, et Illustrator) qu'Indesign autorise dans ses préférences l'AGRANDISSEMENT DES CARACTERES ET/OU DE SES PALETTES!!! Il y a des milliers de graphistes de plus de 40 ans qui se tuent les yeux avec ces palettes miniatures lorsqu'ils deviennent presbytes!!!. Quand on est graphiste, on pleure de mal à la fin de la journée. J'ai tout essayé et moi aussi pas la place de mettre un deuxième écran! j'ai essayé avec iPad Pro et Duet, mais l'affichage le plus bas dans l'IpadPro donne le même résultat de taille pour les palettes que dans mon imac Retina 27'!!! SVP Adobe, ou alors peut-être un programmeur de plugin afin de combler cette grave lacune. Comment Adobe ne pense t-il pas à ce détail alors que la PAO requiert des centaines de clics par heure dans ces toutes petites palettes de caractères et lorsqu'on passe des heures devant son ordinateur pour le travail, très pénible même si on adore son métier... !!! A FAIRE SUIVRE!

11. Fix 'manual bookmark' position

    I'd love the ability to fix the position of a manually created bookmark in relation to all the TOC bookmarks which are all in the same panel, so that they don't shift around every single time you update the TOC. It is frustrating to have to move them around in a 80+ page document.

    Alternatively, would love to be able to easily stop a specific bookmark from appearing in the automated TOC but allowing it to appear in the interactive PDF.

    Finally, I'd love the bookmark palette or interface to be bigger, it's a little painstaking to try to drag & drop them to correct places as the scrolling view has a mind of its own sometimes.

12. Colours /Swatches Problem

    There is big problem in InDesign for colours, because not every one remember different type of CMYK property .
    Just take an idea so you can understand [ When you draw a owl in illustrator, so you have a lot of colours options to change by using colour helper or if need then add from swatches, it's that easy, but in InDesign that's very hard to that, because if you have to change colour then first you have to know that colours CMYK property, then you can add into swatches then you can use that colour. So that's the big different ]

13. Layered Fonts

    Please do provide a tool to implement layered fonts. The tool would need to:
    - be able to automatically superimpose different layers of a font with different styles (color etc.) in the same place, or in a slight interval to create a shadow-effect
    - be applicable to initials (as this is a very common use for layered fonts)

14. Vertical Type

    Please add a Vertical Type tool like the one that is in Illustrator and Photoshop. The method of typing each letter on a line and returning after each is fine, but more time-consuming than it needs to be. The other method, using Type on a Path with a straight line and the stair step effect, does not produce aligned text.

15. Regarding New InDesign PDF Editing Feature

    We recently became aware of a new feature currently in beta within Adobe InDesign, which allows users to open and edit PDF files directly in InDesign. While we understand this can be a powerful enhancement for many workflows, we would like to raise a concern from the perspective of an enterprise customer.

    ​We frequently shares open PDFs with clients and external partners for review and approval purposes. The ability to convert these PDFs into fully editable InDesign files—even in its current limited beta stage—presents a significant risk to the security and integrity of our proprietary layouts and designs.

    While password-protecting or locking PDFs is an option, we have found that such measures are not entirely foolproof. Many third-party tools can still bypass these protections, which limits their effectiveness in safeguarding our content under this new capability.

    Given this, we would appreciate Adobe’s guidance on the following points:
    Will there be controls or administrative settings available to restrict or prevent PDFs from being opened as editable files in InDesign?

16. “Split Footnotes” under Numbering & Section Options

    Hello,

    I want to ask for a little function tweak of “Split Footnotes”.

    By now, you can only adjust “Split Footnotes” for the whole document.

    This is difficult for documents with many pages! Sometime there are some footnotes in a chapter that you want to break over to the next page because they are to long. But the rest of the footnotes should be only on one page.

    It would be nice to setup “Split Footnotes” as an “override” of the global function in the Numbering & Section Options in the Pages panel. So you can decide by the chapter if you need split footnotes.

    Another way could be the “Text frame option”, there is already a footnote function.

    Soy diseñadora gráfica y trabajo con Illustrator, Photoshop e InDesign a diario. Estas aplicaciones comparten muchos paneles (Capas, Alinear, Color, Transformar, etc.), por lo que me gustaría poder crear un espacio de trabajo personalizado y universal, que se sincronice entre las apps de Creative Cloud.
    La idea es simple: si un panel existe en esa app, que se muestre en el lugar donde lo puse; si no, que lo ignore. Pero que respete mi estructura visual y estilo de trabajo, sin tener que volver a crear manualmente el espacio de trabajo en cada aplicación.
    Además, cada vez que hay una gran actualización, mis espacios personalizados desaparecen, y tengo que recrearlos desde cero. Sería ideal que pudiera guardar un único espacio de trabajo sincronizado en la nube, visible desde todas las apps compatibles.
    ¡Gracias por considerar esta idea! Haría mucho más fluido el trabajo entre herramientas y mejoraría la experiencia de quienes usamos varias apps a diario.

18. Generated captions match FULL IPTC from Photoshop

    I’m trying to get those lines from Stock images I buy :

    I found no way to do that in inDesign with the current caption tool.

    But what became funny was comparing Photoshop’s RAW DATA info :

19. Locked Content — Functionality Request

    SUBJECT — Locked Content on InDesign Pages

    • InDesign — version 17.3

    This request applies to when an InDesign page has locked content — in other words, when multiple text boxes and image boxes and other page elements are all locked.

    • When an InDesign page has multiple text boxes and image boxes that are locked, often enough I want to access only one of the locked text boxes to make a simple change to the text.

    • Currently, in order to access that textbox to make the change, the quickest way I've found requires me to unlock the ENTIRE page and make the change — and then, in order to lock the text boxes and image boxes again, I have to select all those boxes AGAIN and re-lock them.

    • The functionality of a previous version of InDesign was more user-friendly — that older version of InDesign allowed me to simply click on the text box with one of the selector tools and make the simple change to the text, and that text box and all the other text boxes and image boxes would STAY LOCKED — so there was no need to AGAIN have to select the boxes and lock them again after making that one simple change to the text.

    • Can this older and very helpful locked-content functionality be restored and added to InDesign version 17.3 and upcoming InDesign versions? Adding and/or restoring this functionality would make InDesign more convenient, more user-friendly, and less aggravating for your current users, including me.

    • InDesign — version 17.3

    This request applies to when an InDesign page has locked content — in other words, when multiple text boxes and image boxes and other page elements are all locked.

    • When an InDesign page has multiple text boxes and image boxes that are locked, often enough I want to access only one of the locked text boxes to make a simple change to the text.

20. Import mobile app Illustrator file directly into InDesign without needing to download or export first

    I'd like to be able to place Illustrator mobile app files directly into InDesign, as opposed to exporting them or downloading them first.

    I often place desktop Illustrator files into InDesign, therefore any changes I make in the Illustrator file I can update from the Links panel in InDesign ('update link'). However, I don't have this option with mobile app Illustrator files.

    I understand I can download the files from my Adobe account, or export the files into jpeg/png etc. But I don't want this for two reasons:
    1- It's an extra step in my workflow
    2- I can't make real-time updates

    Using the 'synced files' folder is not a workaround for me for the above reasons.
