   I am making book layouts and facing an issue during the Epub export. I have book chapters that use two paragraph styles. The first style is for line one, "Chapter X" and the second paragraph style is for the next line with the chapter name. I can't use the same Paragraph style for both lines because they should be formatted differently.

   My question is, can you add a feature that allows using a chain of paragraph styles to create an Epub table of contents? The chain can use the very first style formatting and add the second line with the different paragraph style at the end of the first one keeping the format of the text as it was in the very first style.

   To illustrate what I'm writing about:
   Here is what I have now on the epub TOC after export:
   First TOC line [Paragraph style 1]: "Chapter X"
   Second TOC line [Paragraph style 2]: "Chapter name"

   What I am excepting to get:
   First TOC line [Paragraph style 1 + Paragraph style 2 (which convert its format style to style 1)]: "Chapter X. Chapter name"

   So two paragraph styles are merged into the one Epub style, which allows getting a single TOC string.

   And also need to make a divider between two merged paragraphs. The divider can be "." or ":" or some other character. This needs to separate "Chapter X" from the "Chapter name" to make it like "Chapter X. Chapter name" and not "Chapter X Chapter name".

2. Catalogue Indesign

   Hi,

   I am dealing with a job where I have to create a catalogue in InDesign, and then convert to a website where the user can browse the catalogue images - and select their favourite images (like a wishlist.)

   What is the easiest way to do this? Surely there is a platform which serves as a master image library which will automatically sync with my Indesign file and Dreamweaver?

3. Test internal page hyperlinks in presentation mode

   I don't know if this can even be possible, but it would be great to be able to test internal page hyperlinks in presentation mode (command + W), so that I don't have to export the PDF every time to test, rectify and test again. It will be especially useful for interactive PDFs with 100+ pages.

4. Export Seperation PDFs

   I want to be able to export seperation pdfs so I can make plates with crop marks directly from my working file. Currently it can only be done through post script files and it is barely functional to say the least.

5. Support ID Books!

   As a freelancer corralling multiple ID files, many which share Styles, Parent Pages and other elements, or need to output in a certain order as a combined PDF, I have long used the Book function in ID and MANY OF MY CLIENTS DO AS WELL. This feature of InDesign is still bare bones, undeveloped and buggy. It needs attention from developers! Here are my wishes for Adobe InDesign Books:

   1) The Book Panel is still bare bones. Simply give it your attention.

   2) I want all the fly-out menu options for a book to be available with a secondary click/contextual menu.

   3) I want label colors in the Book panel to mark the status of various documents/chapters.

   4) I want View options to stick! If I have a lot of documents in a Book, and I set it to view in Small Panel Rows, I want that setting to be there every time I open the Book!

   I’m frustrated that Adobe devotes so much attention and talent to XD, Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator but really seems to have their eye off the ball with InDesign, or print in general. Please turn some attention and talent resources toward InDesign and the Book feature. This is long overdue.

6. Arc or Warp feature for conical label designs

   Please include warp features in Indesign so that labels for conical and tapered shapes can be created easily on an arc. The ability to create a curved template via inputting the top and bottom circumference of a cone should also be included so that curves can be customised. If this is not possible then possibly a PDF warp feature of exported flat designs from indesign would be useful. At present 3rd party software or plugins that offer this functionality (similar to Studio by Esko) are very expensive.

7. Allow movie objects to be placed behind other layers

   I am working on a huge airport project at an architecture firm, and we want to be able to respond to requests for information with animation files, however, we cannot maintain our standard format because the movie files, when placed in an indesign file and exported to an interactive PDF, shift to the front layer and obscure all the written information we wish to include along with the file. I am considering using AfterEffects to create an entire animation with text overlayed, but the ease of use of InDesign would be sorely missed.

8. Enable the deletion of button rollover state once it's been created

   Once you've created a button AND applied a rollover state, you can't currently delete it. I know you can "hide" it, and I know you can convert the button back to an object, but I want the ability to delete the rollover state once it's been created. Similar to a multi-state object, it would be great if we can delete the rollover state (like you can do with individual states in an MSO).

9. InDesign Cannot Artifact Leader Dots (Accessibility)

   InDesign has no way of artifacting leader dots. This can only be done in PDF. Leader dots are commonly used in tables of contents to guide the reader's eye from the end of the entry to the page number. Leader dots are voiced by access technologies such as screen readers and force users with disabilities to hear, "DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT ..." If they are not artifacted. This is a painstaking process that requires InDesign users to learn PDF Remediation, a highly specialized skillset that is typically outside the role of the average Graphic Designer. Currently, the process for artifacting leader dots is to ind the first leader dot in the Tags tree. Right click on it and choose Show in Content Panel. Expand the content containers until you find the first set of leader dots. Right click on them and choose “Create Artifact.” Ignore the options panel and click “OK” to set the artifact. Repeat with all other leader dots. This issue affects EVERY SINGLE InDesign user who is required to make accessible content. Please make artifacting leader dots an option within InDesign so painstaking remediation is not required.

10. Saving

    It would be helpful if there were a revert feature is a TIME-STAMPED revert to previously saved - Or revert to the first time you exported a pdf... Something to that sorts would help if you've already hit save more than once.

11. Add option to embed placed INDD like other placed files

    Indesign can embed all linked files into an INDD, except for at least one file type: INDD. You place an external INDD, you can't embed it. If you share the main INDD with other people, they have the external files separately, but Indesign cannot find them, because of different paths.

    Also, embedding files into an INDD is used to create a snapshot or final version, which isn't possible in this case. The reason to embed an INDD instead of a PDF created from it is the work flow. If you modify the external INDD, which may be used in several main INDDs, you would have to export a new PDF every time.

12. Better workflow for designers and copy edits and document syncing

    Would love to be able to get editors to edit indesign files directly without uploading pdf. I spend so many hours making copy edits when I really want to focus on the design! I would love to be able to link an indesign file that anyone can open (without having an adobe account like pdf) but so our editors can edit these documents and I can hit a button in indesign to approve these comments without design being affected!

    Also a way to link two copies of indesign but be able to choose what you want to be linked and what you want to be deleted for when I am working on digital and print products at the same time.

13. Use relevant error messages

    "Cannot copy necessary linked file(s)"
    "Failed To Export The PDF File"
    These messages sucks. Why keeping the reasons in secret?
    Which file cannot copied? On which page/object failed the export?
    Users spend many working hours to find the problem, which ID have to know, but don't publish.

14. Background Tasks button for progress bar while saving

    To duplicate. Export large document to Print PDF, attempt to save while exporting, but background task prevents saving, ok, but only available option is cancel.
    Change would be to add another button to the dialog box to bring up the Background Task progress bar.
    Or an OK button to just return to unsaved document, but panel could then be opened to follow progress.
    Or leave dialog open and allow access to the small animated progress indicator in the top bar to open full background task panel.
    Or allow access to the panel/tab from the sidebar.

15. More options for packaged files.

    Here is an idea that I would think is relatively easy to implement, but would be a great relief to many of us.

    So, I packe and indesign file and it creates a copy, an idml-file, a pdf and "sucks in" all links and fonts to a neat folder. Indesign operates under the assumption that this is the very last thing you do, but often I do this midway to secure everything, or to move to another computer etc etc. Or i retuurn to a finnished project a year later as the client wants some updates.

    I would love the following:

    • an option to automatically close the open document and open the newly packaged document (so you dont carry on working in the old doc)

    • a feature called Update Package: indesign resaves the doc, scans it to suck in new images and fonts, and the option to delete those files not longer in use.

16. Add all DC Pro Roles to inDesign Export Mapping

    Currently, the export mapping for styles in inDesign is limited and does not include all the tags that are available in DC Pro. Some important tags that are missing are BlockQuote, Note, and Caption. This creates a lot of accessibility remediation on the pdf side because of role mapping is incorrect. If I have s style in inDesign called Caption then I should be able to use the export mapping features of that style to assign it to the reserved word Caption in DC Pro. This would eliminate unnecessary work and replace/find searches in the pdf when remediating for 508 accessibility. When working with extensive documents, some are 300 pages+, it takes many hours just to correct the BlockQuote, Note, and Caption tags in Acrobat.

17. Highlight text in preview only

    InDesign is often used for templates. It would be really cool if we could highlight text so that it's ONLY highlight in preview mode (W) and the highlight doesn't show in print, PDF etc. That way we can highlight the areas to change each time we edit a template but the highlight doesn't get printed.

18. Include a rollover reveal of the hyperlinks in place.

    Checking hyperlinks (i.e. where a button takes you to another page in the document) is time consuming. A rollover reveal of where the hyperlink goes would save an enormous amount of time.
    This could also be an Acrobat feature - i.e. once you have exported as an interactive PDF - you can rollover and check there.

19. Network package issue

    I get a error message when I try to export a PDF or make other package from a file that I packaged from company network server. Is like I can't access the links files anymore. And I even can't delete them!

    I'm using the Indesign 13.1 and macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

20. Improvements to the publish online platform

    It would be interesting to improve the "Publish Online" platform, such as adding options to flip the pages of digital files in interactive pdf. Add visualization options by region in Analytics. Making it easier for the developer and users.
    And also add resources for ebooks.
    And also organization options. As creating folders, it would help a lot.
