1. Apply more than one cell style to a cell

   With more complex tables, such as those for financial reports, the number of cell styles required becomes very slow to work with.

   This is because you may want one column in one colour, another in a different colour, but then a row stroke cuts across all the columns.

   At the moment, InDesign only allows you to have one cell style applied per cell. This means that when you've styled your table using one cell style, e.g. a colour, when you then add the other cell style for a row stroke, it will override the first cell style.

   You then have to manually go in, cell by cell, and adjust, or create multiple cell styles for multiple variations.

   For example:

   Orange Cell
   Orange Cell with Horizontal Line
   Orange Cell with Vertical Line
   Blank Cell with Horizontal Line......

3. Flatplan for magazines

   Adobe does not currently offer a tool for page imposition when creating a magazine.

   A magazine is produced from many documents, which are then compiled into a complete issue along with advertisements in PDF format.

   We urgently need a tool that allows us to view the entire magazine as a whole.

   Bridge could serve this purpose if it were able to display all pages from InDesign files and allow us to manipulate and move them as needed across the entire magazine.

   Adobe Bridge could then be able to send this magazine structure for export and instruct InDesign on the position of each page, so that it can adjust the page numbers accordingly.

4. Allow analytics to track the number of times a viewer downloaded the document.

   PublishOnline has been great and very informative. It would help me even more to know how many times a viewer has been interested enough in a document to download a copy. (Even better if I knew how many times they chose to print the document.)

5. Long, NOT complicated, password requirements

   Can you please stop asking me to write password with ridiculously complicate rules to try and make them more secure?! What's more is you force people to use something they have never used before as a password every time it gets re-set. What you have to remember is that REAL PEOPLE with REAL WORKING BRAINS need to be able to actually REMEMBER their password. Rather than spending 10-15 minutes every time they need to login to an application/ server re-setting their password because they can't remember it, how about you just make them use a long, random collection of words, with NO requirement for symbols, numbers or capitalisation at any point. Because you know what happens when you do ask for that? People need to be able to remember them so they put in obvious substitutions like A = 4, I = 1 and O = 0. Honestly I don't have a bloody clue why I'm explaining this as you ALL know it already but refuse to do anything about it. I'm not a coder, I'm a professional working in construction, and I can assure you I am long fed up of these ridiculous rules and of having a long string of websites and programmes that I dread having to login to because I know it's going to be a massive faff every time I do. And to steal what if someone does break in? My application profile data or various other inconsequential bits of information about 'me'? Please, please, please sort it out. It's beyond ridiculous.

6. make option to deactivate swatch sync when synchronizing paragraph/character styles

   In InDesign 19.5.:
   "Swatches synchronize when object, paragraph, or character styles are selected in the Synchronize Options dialog."

   However, working with a book document with different color shemes in each chapter, this is a huge inconvinience for me.
   I want to be able to sync my settings without syncing the colors, as they are deliberatly different in each chapter.
   This change would cause the need to make a character/paragraph/object style for each chapter, causing the number of styles to be hard to manage.
   Otherwise, I would have to change the colors after every sync or won't be able to use the synchronization anymore.

   It sounds like a good idea to sync the swatches, but please make it optional.

   In InDesign 19.5.:

7. I opened my Indesign program and a message asked if I could provide input on how to improve Indesign. Here is my reply.

   I tried to write this response in the "Help Improve Adobe Products" window that opens up on launch of Indesign, but I ran out of space:
   
   Indesign has layer after layer after layer of instructions on how do even the most common things. The problem is that in order to understand one layer, you have to understand at least the terminology and concepts of the other layers. These days, when you open the box for many devices there is a quick set up document included. I recommend that you do something like that. But not with instructional videos. Someitimes you have to watch a video several times to learn a task you make only need to use once. Furthermore, the instructors sometimes use terms that are not known to the viewer. Sometimes their mouse moves too rapidly to follow.

   Here's what I suggest. Configure a very simple numbered sequence for a given task. Make it such that the viewer can do what he needs and then move on, ie without requiring a full education in all the capabilities of the task.

   I suggest you let me send you an example of what I'm speaking of. Perhaps an example of how to change the color of text without having to master the use of swatches.

   Please let me know if this interests you.

8. Zoom when clicking on errors in the Preflight window

   One thing has been bothering me for a long time in Indesign. I am working on a document and activate my print control in the Preflight window, if I then find errors, e.g. under "Text", I simply click on the underlined number of the page on the right and am then taken to where the error is. Unfortunately, it is always set to my 1:1 zoom, so if I want to investigate the error more closely, I have to zoom in manually or with my zoom-shortcut. If I click on the page again at the next error, I end up on the page again with the whole page displayed. But I want to stay at the same zoom level! This works well with the spell checker, for example, if I check my text at 300% zoom, I can always use the Next button in the control window to move from word to word at that zoom level.
   So is there anything that can be done to the preflight control to keep the zoom level the same?

9. Creating text anchors for all section heading in a document

   Add a hyperlink style of TEXT ANCHOR to the TOC Style interface.

   The TOC feature allows the creation of TOC entries that recognize the text that was formatted to a specific paragraph style. If only the TOC Style interface allowed users to choose what type of hyperlink they want associated with those entries. Everything I've tried so far always defaults to the page number, which means clicking the TOC hyperlink still requires the reader to find the appropriate item on the page. Using Text Anchors for the TOC instead would land the reader directly where they need to be.

   I had manually linked text anchors to a TOC, but updating the TOC removes all that work, and the TOC's automatic hyperlinks only display the page. Super frustrating.

   "creubenc" also was looking for this feature in the Adobe Community forums.

10. InDesign Cannot Artifact Leader Dots (Accessibility)

    InDesign has no way of artifacting leader dots. This can only be done in PDF. Leader dots are commonly used in tables of contents to guide the reader's eye from the end of the entry to the page number. Leader dots are voiced by access technologies such as screen readers and force users with disabilities to hear, "DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT ..." If they are not artifacted. This is a painstaking process that requires InDesign users to learn PDF Remediation, a highly specialized skillset that is typically outside the role of the average Graphic Designer. Currently, the process for artifacting leader dots is to ind the first leader dot in the Tags tree. Right click on it and choose Show in Content Panel. Expand the content containers until you find the first set of leader dots. Right click on them and choose “Create Artifact.” Ignore the options panel and click “OK” to set the artifact. Repeat with all other leader dots. This issue affects EVERY SINGLE InDesign user who is required to make accessible content. Please make artifacting leader dots an option within InDesign so painstaking remediation is not required.

11. Upsample Images on PDF Export

    DESCRIPTION:

    Indesign could offer the option of upsampling images to a specified PPI on PDF export. Rather than requiring the user to find each under-res image and manually destructively upsample each with a round-trip through Photoshop.

    Optimally, there could be a threshold setting below which an image resolution is too low. This could be either "effective" resolution PPI number threshold ("Upsample images with an effective placed resolution above 120ppi"), or a max scale percentage that would be needed to get the image up to the set output resolution ("Upsample images within 40% of target resolution." or "Upsample images by no more than 250%.")

    Export dialog could offer different options for dealing with grossly undre-res images or a global "low-resolution" preferences could be set to throw an error at the initial export command similarly to how it deals with missing or modified links.

    I understand that the Preflight panel is already designed to manage resolution issues. But I'm suggesting the option of a workflow where image upsampling happens only for a specific individual PDF output rather than permanently modifying linked source images.

    REASON:

    1. It can be time-consuming to review and override each error that a slightly under-resolution image will throw with modern highly-automated print workflows. (I mean, come on, can anyone see the difference between 280 and 300 ppi once printed? Of course not, but the press doesn't want the liability so throws automated errors if any image is even just 1% under the target resolution.)

    2. Sometimes it's necessary to use images that are not available at any additional resolution and require resampling to choose softness over pixelation. But it can be a nuisance to manage the multiple up-sampled assets hanging around after various uses ("Oh look! Here's a higher resolution version! Dangit, nope, it's just another upsample.") A source image would preferably remain at the actual original resolution since in most cases an upsampled image is made for a specific output.

12. We need much more comprehensive word/character counts functionality

    We need much better support for word counts than simply selecting some text or an active story and getting feedback on it through the info panel.

    As others suggest, we need support for Books, entire documents, I want to know how many words are in tables, footnotes, how many words are duplicated from master pages, give me a breakdown of words by style/font/colour so that I can use these parameters to easily subtract them from a count.

    Pretty much like Illustrator when nothing is selected can give you a breakdown of information document wide, and then specifics when you select objects. This is how the info panel needs to be updated so that if I select a bunch of text frames mixed with an assortment of other items, InDesign is smart enough to decipher and relay information relevant to what it is I have selected be that words, characters, lines, paragraphs through to even number of rows or columns, tables, images etc.. Then give me that as it applies to the whole document when I don't have anything selected.

    If a feature like this would be too stressful on system responsiveness/useability then move the requested enhancements in the File info section from the flyout of the Info panel as the info there is pretty pants and could be made so much more informative

    Swatches, Styles, Images (embedded versus linked), Pages, White space calculator to infer coverage of a page. The list could go one but you get the picture.

    Let make it a bit more useful eh?

13. Export PDF named from CSV file

    Hi.

    When I use variable data to create individual PDF files, I like to add a different and particular numbers for each pdf from a CSV file, and not consecutive numbers (1, 2 , 3, 4...)

14. Add the following features to Buttons and Forms menu.

    Add the following features to Buttons and Forms Format menu.
    Options: Alignment - Left, Right, Center, and Default Value.
    Format: Number, Percentage, Date, Time and Special - Zip Code, Phone Number..
    I create a LOT of fillable PDFs and it would save HOURS of time if I could format the fields in InDesign.

15. More space for document name when saving

    When saving a file, the "save" or "save as" space for giving a name to a document is often too small, as it only fits about 32 characters. 64 characters would be a nice number, so every name would fit without having to scroll.

    In our production flow, we have to name our documents with the client number, the project name, the type of visual, the size, the language and, when it's ready to print, the number of copies. Our documents are often between 30 and 50 character long.

16. By letting me download back my CS5 after a computer crash. I have my serial number etc but cannot nos find the nexcessary download for whic

    I DO NOT WANT cloud or any other of the bits and pieces, just CS5 so that I can continue working with it (being retired I certainly cannot afford any of the pricey ugrades and I don't need them)

    Recently setting a series of tables of financial data, I noticed that, if the column width varied, I had to set individual decimal-aligned tabs for each column to ensure that the numbers ended up a similar distance from the right edge of the column. (In other words, so that the numbers in the narrow columns aligned correctly on the decimal without having the numbers in the wide columns appear too far to the left.)

    Would it be possible to create a set of tab stops whose positions are calculated from the right-hand edge rather than the left? This would have saved me considerable time in laying out this document. The text would still run left-to-right; it would only be the tab stop position that was changed.

    The right-align tab wouldn't do in this case because it would lose alignment on the decimal.

19. PDF Pages Links Name alignment

    When i placed multiple PDF Page files, alignment is not right as i wanted.
    alignment numbers may line up truly. As sample top to down (1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11)

20. Omit text boxes [None] check box in Preflight > Bleed/Trim Hazzard Warning

    Text boxes with [None] background like footers and page numbers are always showing up in the warning list. This would save a bunch of time checking each one or disregarding and having an error on press.
