Add an “Empty Output” Option for Text Variables (Urgent Request)
Dear Adobe InDesign team,
As a professional typesetter/designer, I heavily rely on the text variables feature to automate running headers, footers, and other dynamic text in my documents. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to specify an empty or null output when a text variable evaluates to nothing. Instead, InDesign inserts the last used value or some default text. This forces me to manually adjust the layout or apply complex GREP styles to hide unwanted characters when the variable is empty.
Please add an “Empty Output” option to the text variables feature that allows the variable to output nothing at all when it has no value. This would be extremely useful for workflows where certain sections of a document may not always require a running header, chapter title, or other dynamically generated text. It would also reduce the need for tedious manual cleanup or workarounds using nested styles.
An “Empty Output” option would make text variables much more flexible and improve the quality and efficiency of our layouts. Thank you for considering this feature request. Given how critical text variables are for long document workflows, I hope you will prioritise this enhancement.
Best regards,

Assignment scripting and linking
Currently there is no way to script the link of stories to assignments, I've been trying to script this but it's not possible. this would speed up my workflow as well as the workflow of my coworkers considerably to be able to do this. Also I think this is along the same line, there is no way to change assignment location via script. this doesn't come up often but its frustrating that it cannot be scripted.

Please Add Option to Remove Individual Files from Recent List on Welcome Screen
Message:
Hi Adobe team,
In the latest versions of InDesign, it seems the ability to right-click and remove individual files from the “Recent” list on the Welcome screen has been removed or is no longer available. This feature was incredibly useful for keeping the workspace clean and organized — especially when dealing with outdated or duplicate files.
I would love to see this functionality restored or improved with a visible “Remove from Recent” option for each file, similar to what’s available in Illustrator and Photoshop.

Scroll through placed multi-page PDFs or InDesign documents within InDesign
Essentially, make the Show Import Options Preview panel directly accessible inside InDesign.
This would save me a considerable amount of time.

Impossible to copy comments from InDesign Reviews — very inconvenient for workflow
It is extremely frustrating that comments left in InDesign Reviews (Share for Review) cannot be copied. Often, I need to paste a comment into a search bar, a style name, or simply save it for documentation. Having to manually retype every single comment is a waste of time and increases the risk of errors. Please add the ability to select and copy comment text directly from the Review panel. This is a basic feature that should not be missing.

Give a Direction: Forward/Backward option in the Find/Change panel for Color
The Text option for Find/Change has the option to cycle through the results in the opposite direction. This would be VERY helpful to have on the colour option as well, I have no idea why it would be available for text but not colour, it's the same function?

Automatically assign left and right page
It would be great to have a button that automatically assigns pages alternately as left and right page in a document. I work with documents that have 50 pages or more and they are separated in left and right page. When one page in the middle has to be deleted, it's always a struggle to shift them by hand.

How long does a game of Cryptid last?
When Cryptid board game is explained, most games last about 30–45 minutes. The gameplay is quick but mentally engaging. The length can vary slightly depending on how quickly players deduce the clues. It's designed to be concise yet challenging, making it perfect for game nights or short gaming sessions that still offer depth.

Auto delete imported remarks after accepting them
When importing a pdf with remark/correctionss , its impossible to delete multiple remarks after accepting them. It would be great to have an option that deletes the remark after accepting it. I often have 700 pages books with 3000+ remarks. Indesign becomes soooo slow.

relaxovat

vertical text wrap
Currently, if you have text center aligned (horizontally) when wrapping, the text stays centered between the end of the next box and the wrapping object. This should happen in the vertical as well, but currently doesn't.
If there is text above a wrapping object, and the text is vertically center aligned, the text will either not move (if the wrapping object is lower than the text would end) or it will stay flush with the wrap.
In my case, the fact the vertical doesn't work the same way as the horizontal makes it extremely difficult to design with a single text box with columns as opposed to having to make multiple text boxes that i can resize to accommodate an object that should wrap/recenter on it's own.

Convert Page Guides to Spread Guides
I would like to suggest a small but highly useful improvement for a future update of InDesign.
Currently, when guides are placed within a single page, there is no built-in way to convert them into spread guides (guides that span across the entire spread), unless they are re-created manually while holding Ctrl/Cmd during placement. This becomes especially frustrating when a layout contains a large number of precisely positioned guides that need to be extended to the full spread — for example, after a reorganization of pages or when switching from single-page to spread layout.
Feature suggestion:
Please consider adding an option to convert selected page guides into spread guides directly — either via right-click context menu (Convert to Spread Guide) or through a menu item under Layout > Guides. This small addition would greatly improve workflow efficiency and reduce repetitive manual adjustments in guide-heavy documents, particularly for designers working on magazines, catalogs, or editorial layouts.
Thank you for your continued development of InDesign and for listening to user feedback.
Kind regards

Add 'Apply to All' function when relinking multiple identical image files through the links panel.
Add 'Apply to All' function when relinking multiple identical image files through the links panel - ie when swapping a PNG with an EPS or completely new image with a different files name. When relinking multiple identical images through the links panel, user is required to relink every single image separately one after another. Adding and 'Apply to All' function would speed up this process when looking to update 50 images as once.

Keyboard shortcut for Align Justify w/last line right
The default action in the Align Justify keyboard shortcut is to align the last line in the paragraph to the left (Shift+Cmd+J).
There is no keyboard shortcut to align the last line to the right. Please add it; it’s very important to my RTL text workflow.1 vote -
Warn about font managers
Performance problems and crashes are frequently caused by third party font managers calling faulty macOS code that InDesign itself knows to avoid. Move all offending OS calls that end up in a font manager to a separate "sandbox" thread, and alert the user to disable incompatible software when the call does not return.

Add custom labels to page thumbnails in the Pages panel
As someone who regularly works with large, multi-page InDesign documents - especially project-based packages - I’d love to see the ability to assign custom labels or names to individual pages in the Pages panel.
Currently, when I need to go back and edit a specific project page in a large qualifications package, it’s difficult and time-consuming to locate the right page. Using only numerical page numbers doesn’t give me the context I need, especially when each page represents a different project.
While section markers and visible labels on the page help somewhat, these don’t make navigation faster within the Pages panel. What would really help is the ability to:
Add custom labels (e.g., "Project Name, Client Grouping") next to or beneath page thumbnails in the Pages panel
Use those labels to search, sort, or jump to specific pages more easily
Keep things organized when working with 50+ pages of unique but visually similar content
This feature would make InDesign much more efficient for designers managing complex documents — especially in architecture, marketing, publishing, and design studios.

Please change the default View-Display Performance-back to Typical. The high quality display takes a very long time to load.

Allow placement of PDFs/images by actual page size, not their bounding box.
Enable an option to place or drag-and-drop PDF and image files based on their actual page dimensions (MediaBox or defined size), rather than defaulting to bounding box-based fitting—the following alignment of such is unnecessary hustle. Ideally with user-selectable placement mode (bounding box vs. full page).

Interactivity, LIVE while using InDesign - Object States and Buttons that work at ANY time - ala AE 'Essential Graphics'
Interactivity, LIVE while using InDesign - Object States and Buttons that work at ANY time - ala AE 'Essential Graphics'.
There is the potential for InDesign to be a powerful QC authoring tool in our industry. We apply technical charts over the images which designers have created, like pitch/checker-decks. We need many different aspect ratios but repetition of the overlays and much of the info. We previously had over 90 layers the user would need to make visible or invisible - this is tedious and antithesis of good UX.
Essential Graphics in AfterEffects is somewhat close to the idea we seek.
InDesign is ALMOST there with ObjectStates, but these also require layer selection and a chunky workflow.
Wiring ObjectStates to Buttons and Forms is exciting - but does not work in the ACTUAL INDD DOCUMENT - so it's not a solution.
There's so many clever ways to solve the problem by building custom control panels with the Interactivity, but none of that function is available INSIDE OF InDesign - and exporting to EPUB/PDF is useless because we need to drop dozens of images into the pages.
There's a precious chasm that sits between InDesign and XD that could be bridged - find some way of EMPOWERING AUTOMATION, allowing the creation of better/custom UI/UX, which builds better tools for the creators, not just end user product for display.
This is valuable because it extends the function of InDesign to become more of a tool for making tools for others, rather than just a tool to make static, re-baked product.Interactivity, LIVE while using InDesign - Object States and Buttons that work at ANY time - ala AE 'Essential Graphics'.
