After placing a .ai file into a rectangle frame, resizing rectangle frame would resize Artboard in Illustrator
This should definitely not be default behaviour, but e.g. a checkbox under "show import options" asking to "link artboard size to text frame size, when placing a .ai file, would be nice.
When opening the fiel in illustrator, a warning dialog coudl appear asking "frame size has been changed in indesign, do you want to change artboard size accordingly?"
I repeatedly work with layouts and .ai graphics, that need to first be drafted, then layout changed, and after this the graphics slightly refitted to new sizes. Its a bit tedious looking up correct widths and heights for artboards from indesign.

InCopy/Word
I can appreciate InCopy's capability of linking multiple authors. I personally never have need of that. Here's what I wish InCopy could do: Take MS Word file and make them fully compatible with InDesign. That is ... to remove all the rookie techniques employed by so many Word users, to remove all the mysteriously bogus code that creates frustrating local formatting. Sometimes you can fix these things by saving the text as RTX (or DOC instead of DOCX) from Word, but that doubles the number of text files to store - unnecessarily complicated. It is very troublesome to select fonts
It is very troublesome to select fonts from a list when managing a large number of fonts. Also, even when selecting font names by typing, it is difficult to select candidates if there is a typing error.

Indesign for IPad Pro M1
Indesign for IPad Pro M1. I’m from the first generation of Quark Express to now Indesign always working on a Desktop.
Having to move countries, I have embraced the mobile world and invested in an Ipad and the ‘Cloud’ ! It’s been amazing so far especially with the creative cloud but….no Indesign!!! What do I do? All my projects are built on it and now I can’t even open them ! What is the solution?6 votes -
offline mode for Apps while computer (emails or other) stay online
When I have an unstable internet connection or go online via hotspot/mobile data volume, I would like to set Indesign temporarily to offline, but at the same time keep the computer online for e.g. emails.

Option to Restart Number Lists by Default
As it says on the tin, an option is needed to restart number lists by default. There shouldn't have to be an extra step to restart numbering for every single list and there shouldn't be any need for the convoluted workarounds that there are out there.

Can we please have an action/automate function??
Would love an automation function so I can automate the repetitive tasks that I spend hours doing over and over again. This function is in Photoshop and Illustrator - want this for Indesign!

Preference settings for a bulleted list
Make a program or document preference setting for a manually formatted bulleted list. Now the hanging indent is always 6,35 mm and the bullet is always a dot.
And yes - I know this can be done by a paragraph style ...

New Document based on existing document
The ability to select an existing document in the new Document dialog as a "template". When selected, The "New document" dialog adapt the settings from the selected document. On document creation it import styles from the "template".

Ability to adjust opacity of guides - rows and columns
Users should be able to adjust the opacity of guides, enabling greater emphasis to be given to chosen elements. For example a rectangle frame tool can stand out more than the rows and columns used, otherwise it is very messy and impossible to sometimes use both at the same time.

Make gifs great again
• Allow a preview of a live GIF while designing - currently when it is placed into a deck it is static and only reviewable by publishing online.
• Allow a choice of the GIF thumbnail that becomes the still image when an offline version is downloaded. Currently I'm at the mercy of whatever the very first frame is in the entire GIF sequence.
• Better yet, make Adobe Reader able to play gifs so the 'offline' version doesn't have to be a compromise of the original intention.

Describing the purpose of a link in EPUBs using aria-label
Description
It would be really great if hyperlinks would get an (optional) attribute to describe their purpose, and this being reported in EPUB outputs as values of aria-label attributes.

Something similar is already in place for alt-text ("Edit Hyperlink..." -> "Accessibility" -> "Alt-Text") which I understand plays a role in PDF outputs.
Why is this valuable to you?
This would bring a GREAT accessibility enhancement in all those occasions where the hyperlink (or the hyperlinked text) does not provide enough context/information to the reader (i.e. when reporting DOI links - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_object_identifier - they almost never offer any info on…

Rename "flush space"
Rename the "flush space" to something more representative; suggest "flex space," "flexible space" or "expanding space."
This element was named in the narrow sense of allowing the last line of a justified paragraph to expand fully to the right margin. With the more obvious and accessible option of "full justification" this purpose of the space element is diminished, and it has use in other ways such as auto-spacing multiple words or phrases across a single line.

Have two systems of unit measurement operate simultaneously, depending on feature and function
I would like InDesign to operate simultaneously in two unit of measurement systems. I would like to be able to work and view typographic measurements such as point size, leading, paragraph spacing, baseline shift, and drop shadow amounts in Picas/Points; but at the same time see my page size, margins, object dimensions, column widths and such displayed in inches, or mm, or even pixels, according to my need. Put Distribute Spacing icons in the Control Bar
I use these controls along with the align controls every day. There's no reason they can't be grouped together with the align controls in the control bar.
I keep all my tool palettes on a second monitor, so the Align buttons in the control bar are 30" away from the Distribute Spacing icons in the Properties panel of the second monitor.

Object Style Duplication
I'm one of those people who use style sheets to the Nth degree, including Object Styles. Is it possible to duplicate Object Style groups the way that Paragraph and Character Styles are duplicated when making new alternate layouts? It would be so much easier to go into the newly minted Object Styles, update the look of one object, redefine the style in the palette, and then have that update all the other newly created objects.

Convert missing and and no longer existing hyperlink in to embedded image
When editing an existing file made by someone else who no longer has access to the links used in the file, I want to be able to pin the images to the file so that I can save the pdf without image resolution changes.
I tried embedding the images in the file but this option is not clickable for the missing links.1 vote
