Object Styles: Size and Position relative to spine
When setting an object's position with this feature, one must choose left or right for X position. With Anchored Objects, we can choose for that to be "relative to spine" instead. So instead of "left" or "right", we can choose "inside" or "outside".
This would allow for symmetry on a spread. Example: an object could then extend from the spine, beyond the page edge, through the bleed, whether on a left or right page.60 votes -
Automatic hanging indents/"indent to here" for lists
Currently, creating hanging indents for lists requires either manually adding "indent to here" ahead of every list item, or fiddling with the left indent and first line indent options of the list paragraph style until the desired effect is achieved-- a process that must be repeated if the type size changes or for subsequent list levels.
Since hanging indents are what one almost always desires when creating lists, it would be great if this was a checkbox option one could simply turn on when setting up list styles. With the option on, InDesign would automatically indent all text to the…

XML Enhancements
InDesign is having huge XML limitations, even we cannot handle below mentioned basic options:
(1) Find and Replace the XML Tags with / without Parent XML Tags
(2) Find and Replace the XML Attributes based on the selected XML Tags
(3) Converting the selected contents in InDesign into XML Comments
(4) Copy and paste the contents directly in InDesign from any XML editors without losing XML Tags and XML Attributes
(5) Show all selected XML Tags with relevant page numbers with link to locate the contentsMuch more…
If Adobe is start thinking on improving / breaking these requirements, will…

Option to split table rows across pages
Lord please, if you're up there, answer our INDD prayers and make this a feature. A LOT of tables have rows with more content than can be held in a single page or bottom of a page. It's impossible to layout a continuous book or brochure if I can't get the table text to split - it doesn't have to be the default, but give me the option - please, please. WORD does this, be better than Word!!

The KEYBOARD INCREMENTS part of Units and Increments preferences should application level not document level.
I have to go into this panel multiple times a day to change this from 2 to 1.
It should be application level, because it all relates to how much I expect text to move when using keyboard shortcuts. Or at least let me toggle it or override.
I think this is like if my custom keyboard shortcuts were document level and I had to set them back up every time I got a file made by someone else.25 votes -
Make "Start workspace" default go to open files
I would like the "Start workspace" to be my go to open document workspace in Indesign. Also when documents are already open.
I find it very useful to see thumbnails of my work instead of the "Open recent" filelist.2 votes -
Please increase the MAX page size to above 14400 pixels (20")
Pdf can support page sizes up to miles long or wide.... (although this is slightly absurd, but yes, MILES long!) but if you create a large page in InDesign you are met with a lovely error message when you come to export. Larger page sizes would be beneficial for lots of reasons, app prototyping, print, really long articles and pictures of Giraffes ;-)
Seriously though, please oh wise Adobe can you increase this limitation to a more reasonable number, Thank-you.

Restart endnote numbering within a single document
I love that endnotes are now a feature, but am finding them to make my job more difficult as they are currently.
I'd love to see a way to restart endnote numbering within a single document--maybe after a certain paragraph style is used or after a section break. With a multi-hundred page document, it looks more clean (both in the text and in the endnotes section) and is more manageable to have lower numbers.

Multiple styles per element with cascade like CSS
So many documents get output into electronic formats now. The limitation of only one style per element (paragraph, character, object) makes it difficult to map what is happening in InDesign to good HTML and CSS.
If InDesign allowed multiple styles to be applied to an element, with cascade rules like CSS, then electronic output would be easier and the quality of generated markup could be improved. In addition, being able to apply simple style changes to override more comprehensive styles would simplify documents and reduce the number of styles needed to make little variations of design possible..

Snap Tabs to document grid / Distribute Tabs
I think it would be great when setting Tabs, this would snap to the document grid. Saves a lot of time in contrast to setting each tab numerically.
Another great addition would be the possibility to Distribute tabs. Comes in handy with imported text where sequential standard tabs were used.3 votes -

Weird grey objects appearing on pages
I updated my OS today -- and I'm having major problems with InDesign. For one, it's running slowly. More distressing, however, are the strange dark grey angular objects that are appearing on pages. They appear and then disappear and then reappear. See attached screenshots. Those grey objects are NOT part of my page design. I have no idea where they are coming from. This is a file created two months ago, and this is the first time I've encountered this problem. I'm using InDesign CC.

Master Page Specify Following Pages
When setting up a long document, there are often opening spreads and then different pages that follow, based on specific master pages. It would be useful to be able to define the master pages so that whenever Master Page A falls, B will follow, defined automatically. Much like paragraph style sheets, where one style always follows the others, you could set it up so that when you define a page with A, then B, C, etc. will be automatically set up.

Accessibility—PDF Export Preset
In PRINT PDF export options, we have the option of saving settings as JobOptions which can be selected in the future from a drop-down menu.
Need the same capability in INTERACTIVE PDF export options, too.
And we also need preset for accessibility from both PRINT and INTERACTIVE PDF exports, one that ships and installs with InDesign and PDF Maker (MS Office) to automatically set the options for tagging and tab order.

Form Field Calculations in InDesign
With InDesign's form tools, we're missing the ability to add calculations to form fields in InDesign, and that task must be done manually in Acrobat.
To start, I'd like to be able to build simple calcs into my InDesign forms. Example:
And expense report has a form field for each day of the week, and then a total for all of the days. Would like a simple summation calc that I could use for rows of fields or columns of fields. Or both!
Another example: multiplication of quantity times price. Or multiplication of 5% sales tax on an amount field.

Accessibility—Artifact tables for layout, but keep their content
Sometimes designers use a table for layout purposes, not for a traditional spreadsheet-like matrix data in columns and rows.
Example: A table that creates a complex, multi-celled form. For layout, it's easier to create rows and columns to hold the form labels and form control fields.
However, when the form is exported to PDF, the table structure itself is not needed and often gets in the way of many assistive technologies.
Need a way to artifact the table structure itself, but retain the content within the table as live text and form fields. And of course, have it correctly tagged…
