Searchable text
I would also like a feature i.e. text of indd files should be searchable without opening the indd file, and using its find and replace dialog box. i have hundereds of indd txt files. and everytime i need to search some thing in my indd files, so i have to open all the files and use the dialog box,
is there any option to do this without opening the indd file. like the search panel in finder, it finds in pdf, word, excel docs,1 vote -
XML structures and footnotes/endnotes
This is a point which was subject of lot of discussion since years in several forums. Even this uservoice mentions it (partly) sometime but obviously it hasn't been considered at all.
In InDesign, a footnote can't contain xml structures.
In InDesign, it is not possible to map an xml element to the footnote object.
This is really weird, since:
a) mapping XML element to an InDesign object is something exiting already for tables thanks to attribute aid:table. So why not having set an attribute aid:note, with values "footnote" and "endnote" and implementing this?
b) footnotes and endnotes can contain by…42 votesThanks for reporting the issue.
We will review it shortly.-InDesign Team

Use Opt-click for "update all cross references"
In the links panel, opt-click on the update button updates all changed links. It also has a tool tip for doing so. I have been told opt-click is a 'standard' in many Adobe apps. But "update all cross references" is not so easily found. It requires to make sure no cross reference is selected and then click the update button. This is not intuitive and hard to find. Change to opt-click (with tooltip). Check for any other place that an update button exist and unify the UI in the same manner.

CMD/SHIFT scroll speed and direction shortcuts are now broken
It used to be that holding SHIFT and using the mouse wheel increased the scroll speed, and holding CMD changed scroll direction.
Now, holding SHIFT increases scroll speed direction AND changes scroll direction, while CMD still changes the scroll speed.
This means that, previous to the update, if you were scrolling veritcally down your document, you'd scroll normally, and could then hold shift to increase the speed. Whereas now, if you want to increase the scroll speed without changing direction you have to hold CMD as well.
IE - Previously used to work like this:
Scroll Wheel = Vertical Scroll…

footnote/endnote styles
Ability to define footnote/endnote styles (as opposed to the formatting styles contained within the the footnote/endnote definition) and synchronize these across the book documents. Would save a lot of time in books with many documents.

quad center
Quad centre
E.g.
left aligned text centre aligned text right aligned textPresently, you can do:
left aligned text right aligned text
but not centered text in the middleThere are various work-arounds to do this now but all are clumsy.
WordPerfect has done this for at least 35 years.1 vote -
addition of style override menu option
Please provide a menu option to override a style. Going to and from the associated style menu is time consuming and and would be easier if I could at least use keyboard navigation to access a menu option under the type, object or table menu headings to activate it.

Go to Page (book-aware version of command)
The Go to Page command only works within a document. The Go to Page in Book command would open up the requested page in the Book file, regardless of whether the document were open at the time or not.
This is a valuable command because when editing long books with many chapters, it is useful to go directly to a page to make a change. It saves having to take your hand off the keyboard to the mouse, open the possibly closed Book panel, find the file that is in the page range, double-click it to open it, and then…

ability to choose layers to print in the print dialogue
It would be nice to have the ability to activate/deactivate layers in the print / export dialogue box, especially when printing book-files which contains a lot of documents with language layers. Now I'll have to open all documents one-by-one to switch language before I can print /export the complete book file for that language.

Password Protection in the new Review panel
Include a password protection field in the new review tab. Allow it to be toggled on and off. When a review is sent, and a password is created, send the password in the same email as the review link.

Layer comps (Different View States)
I need to be able to easily export different view states of the same LARGE documents that get incremental updates, showing and hiding different layers and objects depending on who the exported file will be going to.
Having the option to use Layer Comps would allow for different view states to be enabled for each export.

Spec Sheet for Paragraph Styles
I recently came across the need to print out a spec sheet of paragraph style settings from INDD. We're working with an outside vendor who is programming a proposal builder platform for our business development team. Basically, my design team created branded layout templates in INDD. We gave the vendor our native files, but their programmers need a written spec sheet of all the paragraph style attributes. From the paragraph style palette, when you go into each style, you can see the style settings, but you can't copy that text, nor export the settings as a spec sheet. I doubt…

Ability to add an image to a note
Add the ability to add an image to a note. I work with technical manuals that are image heavy and some of my reviewers like to add examples of what they're looking for by showing an example of a different document.

Notification Settings
Getting notified for every single comment seems like over kill in some cases, especially in the early parts life of a document where I can be receiving multiple comments on one page. If Adobe can add a setting where the owner can toggle how many comments can be posted before a notification gets sent out that would be great. Or have a "notify" button that when pushed will send a notification out.

Option to replace links with same name but different format
When relinking a file, ID is able to check and relink all other links in a folder. However, I regularly have to use the relink feature to replace .tif dummies with finalized .psd files. The problem is that relink includes the extension of files in the name, so a tickable option to tell ID to change extension according to the first file you click so it then relinks all files with same name but the desired extension instead would save a lot of time.
(Unrelated, but having a corner to drag the typing field when posting ideas would be nice.…

Reset option for object shift in flow text
When placing an object in flow text, for instance a small image, the object can be shifted up and down with the mouse pointer to adjust its position in relation to the text. That position is nothing that has a corresponding value in any toolbar so it can't be reset. Would be nice to have a reset button for it or use the text shift up/down value also for objects.

InDesign Scripting : Events On PageItems
Many elements of the page have the ability to subscribe to messages (events of change of such an item are especially interesting), but this does not work. Does the event system work only for UI, Application, and Document?
There are too few documents that describe events on page items ...

Improve UI Efficiency of Styles Panels
SEE ATTACHED SCREENSHOT—
The UI of the styles panels is way too spacious in some areas and, as a result, way too compressed in other ways.
The panels have to be stretched wider than they should just to read all the text.
Attached screenshot has a before-and-after with analysis and proposed redesign.
