Default text box to "Formatting Affects Text" rather than "Formatting Affects Container".
If a Text box uses all the same color of text within, upon direct selecting the box it should default to an active "Formatting Affects Text" rather than "Formatting Affects Container". Or give me the option to make this the default in Preferences. Pressing (J) before each and every swatch click to trigger this formatting is tedious and unnecessary.

I agree 100% with the original post. This is not a mere preference that one or two people have. This is essential. Please change the default selection to allow the typeface color to be changed.
The text box fill color NEEDS to be the SECONDARY selection. Any professional typographer will agree.
Please change this soon, thank you!
P.S. The creation of an account to be able to post this comment was an utter NIGHTMARE! Confusing to even the keenest designers and tech-savvy people such as myself.

This is so needed.
It is so rare that I add colour to the text box. However, I change the colour of the text all the time.I am not going to use the (J) quick key, as this is inviting mistakes when dealing with copy.
It's really annoying.
Come on Adobe, this is a simple thing to change. -

Glad I'm not the only one battling this. :) My gripe comes from a different angle, but the desired result is the same...
I am a career graphic designer who has been using InDesign since version 1.5 (the first real Quark killer!). Love the app, it's truly a joy to use.
BUT despite my having clocked countless hours with it, I cannot get used to having to take an extra step to change text colors (I actually never noticed the J hotkey, I guess I'll try to start using that even though it's on the mouse side of the keyboard 🙄). And as far as I know, this is the *only* CC app that requires that step.
This default behavior makes zero sense to me — sure, you *can* change the fill color of a text box, but it's a *text box*. What are the odds that the fill color is what I'm trying to change? Nine times out of ten, at least in my case, I'm changing the text. And sure, I get that Janet and I don't represent all users, but that's what Preferences are for. PLEASE add this option, Adobe.
