  1. Add a vertical type tool.

I'm a sign designer. I use AI and ID in tandem to output mass amounts of signs with variable copy (using data merge feature); such as unit IDs, where the numerals change. Sometimes the design of these include vertical type.

Not having a vertical type tool is crippling to my workflow, as I have to fumble my way through the type on a path option (which often doesn't space consistently, or do it manually.

  2. New Larger, Horizontal Background Tasks Meter

Please enlarge the Background Tasks Meter and make it horizontal in the Application Bar. It's hard to tell if anything's happening during PDF export, it's so small.

It would be nice if it was an elongated meter or had the same basic info that the Background Task Palette shows when you click on it.

    Thanks!

  3. Allowing the Data Merge feature to tile pages for final Print or PDF.

Allowing the Data Merge feature to tile documents for Print or PDF. I would love to take my 8.5 x 11" , file with one image and some copy being pulled from a data source to be able to print or PDF right from the data merge dialog box and specify to place 4 or more up on a page.

  4. Increase section prefix 8 character limit

Can only have a section prefix of 8 letters. Would be nice to remove this limitation.

Any reason why a limit was imposed? Does it serve any purpose?

  5. Add a way in a book file to change the conditional text "Set" of all documents within the book at a global level.

Please add a way in a book file to change the conditional text "Set" of all documents within the book at a global level.

This way I can print "Product A" without having to open every document within the book and changing the "Set" to product A. Like wise for "Product B," etc.

An alternative would be to add it o the publish/print/export presets.

  6. Create the condition from a list of paragraphs/character styles

Ability to create the new condition form a list of paragraph style or character styles
I would improve the ability to search on more than 1 paragraph/character style at once.

Sometimes you have to search more than one style – rather than go through each style at once, the ability to create a condition to select a range of styles would be useful.

  8. Make embedded audio InDesign's EPUB3 files fully compatible with Google Play Books platform

Embedded audio in EPUB3 documents created with InDesign is not recognised when the EPUB3 document is published via the Google Play Books platform. This is due to incompatible ID tags. InDesign exports this:
    <audio id="idAudio001"
    but Google Play Books requires:
IDs must start with a letter ([A-Z,a-z]) and may be followed by any number of letters, digits ([0-9]), hyphens ("-"), underscores ("
    "), colons (":"), and periods (".")

Currently this makes it impossible to use InDesign to create an EPUB3 with embedded audio and publish it correctly via the Google Play Books platform.

  9. Bring Back the DPI!

    Dear Adobe,
How could you get rid of the term DPI, especially in InDesign, and replace it with PPI?!!!! As a print designer for the last 15 years, it breaks my heart to see that the premiere software company for designers has abandoned a term that is part of the fundamental lexicon of graphic design. I am a print designer at a CA State University and it kills me that our graphic design students graduate with an BA in Art/Graphic Design without having set foot inside a print shop! Now, the software they use to layout printed pieces doesn't even…

  10. Can Idml file open with his own name

When I open .idml file in InDesign, it opens as Untitled-# document. Is it possible that when I open .idml it opens as the filename instead of "Untitled-#"? Because I have received some many idml files, I am spending time save as file into INDD.

Hi All, this feature is now added in the latest version of InDesign i.e. InDesign 13.1.

You can upgrade your InDesign to get access to this feature.

    Javed

  11. Make editing of hidden Conditional Texts easier

When working on texts with hidden conditional texts in it, I frequently have to do corrections inside the hidden texts either. It would be great, if hidden conditional text would be visible and editable e.g. in the story editor, without changing the visibility in the conditional text panel.

Or make it expandable in the story editor by clicking on the eye symbol ...

  12. Zoom 100% - 1:1

In print and web documents the 100% zoom isn't acual an 1:1-size (800 pixels are not shown as 800 pixels, 20 mm are not shown as 20 mm).
I reconize that it depends on your Screensize/and os dpi settings, but that must be possibe! In Acrobat i am able to set an customize resolution (for mm) and in photoshop 800 pixel are 800 pixel at 100% zoom.

  13. Add Sticky Notes to Incopy like in Acrobat

The Layout and the the Editors work pretty close together in our company. The ability for the Editors to correct their text in the Layoutview is a nice thing for both... Layout and Editors. But we really miss the "Sticky Note" Feature known from Acrobat. When the Editors try to communicate, that they want changes being applied to the Design, thats not really possible with Incopy right now. For example, the editors would love to click the sticky note tool, so that they could place it right next to a picture and add their notes. For exmample: "make this one…

  14. custom tracking/kerning display option (Preferences/Composition) could show varying degrees of shading

it seems to me that a previous version of ID had this feature: under Preferences/Composition, when "custom tracking/kerning" was selected, the paragraph shading was of different degrees (lighter to darker) depending on the tracking level selected

  15. Please implement support for fast entry of Mac OS accented chars asap

Mac OSX now supports accents very cleanly and simply c/o press and hold briefly (a, e whatever) then your accent choices display as in the attached screengrab. This feature is supported in all Mac apps, email clients, etc etc ... even dare I type, MS Word v15.40 (171108). But not InDesign (yet ... as of 13.0.1). Very disappointing for a s/w vendor that is otherwise at leading edge of all things creative design / innovative UIs ...

  16. More control with paragraph shading

I would like more control over the space insets in the paragraph shading options. When a long paragraph of text flow on to the next page there is no way to control the spacing above (padding) when we're in the middle of the paragraph and "clip to frame" is checked. It is possible to get away with it if the distance from the top-margin and the first baseline is sufficient, but most of the time I want more space. I think it would be better if the text was forced down to the second baseline if necessary. The end goal…

  17. CJK typesetting in InDesign CC

We're often receiving the inputs with Chinesh, Japanese and Korean languages, so we're reinstalling the CC with new language to handle these inputs. So it'll be good to have direct feature in InDesign to handle CJK inputs without re-installation.

  18. Universal UI & Export Feature

Can it please be possible to export your workspace to then import it onto another computer so we don't have to re-arrange everything every time we move or have to reinstall?

It would be even better if when we log into our Adobe ID on any device, that our own workspace arrangement loads.

  19. Variable Spot Colors from Illustrator Definable in InDesign

The ability to create a vector graphic in Illustrator, fill it with a variable spot color swatch (ie "Variable Color 1/2/3" etc.) and then when that spot color is imported into InDesign you can define it to match your project. Ideally on a per-instance basis, but even just editing the color globally from the swatches panel would be a big help. It would save hiving to make multiple versions of a graphic for each color you need - and that you may never need again.

For now my workaround is to make a layered PDF from Illustrator with a layer…
