  1. Import XLSX spreadsheet to an InDesign table: the "-1" problem still

    When linking xlsx files to InDesign I receive a "-1" when the linked cell in Excel contains a formula that returns text from a cell in a different worksheet in the same workbook. InDesign ver 15.0.1 Win 10 workstation

  2. Properties Panel More Options

    I quite like the idea of the new Properties Panel, but it would be great to have the options to have the "More Options" items to be expanded permanently. Right now the auto collapse once you change from item to item. I understand if you are working on a laptop, the fact that they auto collapse is helpful but when you are working on a large screen I don't want to keep looking for my options. Please add a preference that makes the expanded options sticky.

    The fix for this issue is now available in the latest update (14.0.2) of InDesign 2019.

    If you are unable to see the update notification, open the menu (three dots) from the top-right of Creative Cloud desktop application and click on ‘Check For App Updates’.
    Once the update button is shown against InDesign, click on the button to update to Id 14.0.2.

    If you face any problems with the new update, do let us know in the comments.

  3. Path elements as Artifact

    To create an accessible PDFs it’s essential to either tag relevant content or mark irrrelevant content as Artifact. In InDesign you can use the object export options to mark an object as “Artefact”.

    So far so good, however any path elements from tables or underlined/strikethrough text are not marked at all. Obviously, those always need to be marked as an Artifact. InDesign should do this automatically during the pdf export process. Please fix that, it’s extremly time consuming to fix that manually in Acrobat.

  4. Better functionality when placing Excel 2020 textcells referring to another cell

    Depending on InDesign and Excel version the results differ when placing Excel text cells referring to another cell. I have a big financial report with lots of text references, it would be great if this worked with latest versions of InDesign and Excel.

  5. Datamerge export as PDF/VT or other variable print file format (such as VPS)

    I use the datamerge function alot to create variable print products such as letters with names and address etc. I also use variable graphivs too. The problem is that when I have an 80,000 run the PDF files and ripping times are getting longer and longer. Ideally I want to be able to export as a PDF/VT file format or a VPS. This will mean that instead of sending the graphics 80,000 times to the RIP of the printer it will instead send the graphic once and the data and graphics are assembled as it prints.   6. Larger Colour Swatch Window and Colour Creation Tools

    When creating or changing a colour in the swatch window the square that shows the colour is tiny and the dragging tools be it in RGB or CMYK are the only way to choose a colour. I feel like more options could easily be availble here in terms of how to pick a colour, like a large "rainbow" grid to drag the mouse around to select exactly what you want. The current system, larger with more fidelity would be incredible!

  7. Place a page from a document into itself on a different page

    I work on price lists and we have a page that explains how to use the price list. In that descriptive page, I insert an illustrator file of one of the product pages. The problem is that the information, prices and images are changed from time to time and the description page becomes outdated. If I were able to place an indesign page from the same document into itself then the information would always be up to date.

  8. A search and replace that is a series of search and replaces

    Often users need to run a series of search and replaces on a document. Why not create an S&R that runs a series of S&Rs in a user-defined order. It'd be great for cleaning up text. Also, allow users to decide if each S&R is run as "replace all" or with the user deciding each replace.

    In addition, allow S&Rs to be run automatically when text documents (typically from Word) are placed. Choosing that would be one option in the Place window.

  9. Caption Setup Metadata Dimensions in Inches OR ImageCatalog.jsx Script Labels in inches

    Hello,

    I would like to be able to add dimensions in inches in Caption Setup.

    This is useful for creating a reference contact sheet for printing graphics of many different sizes

    Alternatively, could ImageCatalog.jsx Script be edited to include a dimensions label in inches?

  10. Adaptive layout, Simple math, Line Breaks with Data Merge

    The simplest example to describe a problem:
    I'd like to generate many invoices. Every invoice have different number of products on in, in table. + It would be great to have calculations options in this table. Also i think that controlling line break with data merge is must have. Create special code for ex. " " to automate it! :)

  13. Background Task Toggle on/off

    The Background Task hangs when making a PDF. Add a toggle on/off of the Background Tasks to force a foreground PDF export. This has been an issue for many years and still isn't corrected!

  14. Table of Contents

    Table of Contents styles should be able to take a selected page range, and generate a TOC based on only that page range.

    Many books have multiple TOCs these days — a master TOC up front, and TOCs at the beginning of each chapter or section, and often a hidden TOC that is used to generate PDF bookmarks.

    Being able to limit page ranges would mean less manually edited of generated TOCs, faster TOC generation, and needing to use fewer paragraph/character styles to handle them!

  15. Clear All Style Sets—Right from the Style Set Menu

    Since there are a lot of windows to get to the OpenType Style Sets, we need a button that can clear all the opentype features we've tried out. This can be put into the Stylistic Sets Menu. (See attached picture.)

    This isn't just valuable to me. This is valuable to:
    1. Other users can feel free to use style sets, knowing that they can quickly clear all options, not spend minutes clicking through menus—Just to turn something off!
    2. Font designers might add more features into their fonts if the features are easier to use.

  16. Crops Marks should automatically offset the same distance as the bleed

    I does not make any sense that the default offset for crop marks is less than .125" There isn't a finishing trim method that can use crop marks closer than that. The default 0.0833 in setting is useless for production. It only causes problems and renders the bleed virtually useless.

    I work in grand format print and the problem is far worse. We require .5" or 2" bleed consistently for gallery wraps, museum exhibits etc. We constantly get pdfs from clients where the bleed is 2" but the crop marks are only 0.0833" away from the page size. This renders…

  17. Changing the backgroung/page colour

    I would very much like to be able to change the background colour in incopy. For example: a green page colour, with a silverish font colour. (the latter can be done already)
    As a writer, I like to work on my own terms. So this would make me love incopy, and not just use it when I need to.

  18. Add conditions to Data Merge

    There should be conditions in data merge to include or exclude text based on the data in a record. For example.e consider a set of business cards. Some users might have a Twitter handle or mobile number, some might not. Currently there is no way to omit empty fields and any text that might fo with it, line an "M" and tab to prefix a mobile number and the line break after it. There should be a way to make that text conditional on whether the field is empty or what is in it.

  20. Export Book: Option to export documents in book as individual PDFs

    When using the book export, it would be wonderful to have the option to export the documents that make up the book as separate PDFs.

    This option would be useful whether exporting the entire book to PDF or exporting selected documents to PDF. Metadata embedded in each document of the book would be included in the export to pdf.

    For example, I currently create a journal using the book function to pull together and organize the separate INDD files for the cover, TOC, and articles. Once the journal is completed, I need to generate the following PDFs:
