interactive form checkmark
When building an interactive form with a check list, would be nice to have the checkmark customizable either by font or upload my own icon. The standard one used is not the prettiest.

Embedded Object Styles
I would find it helpful for inCopy files with an embedded Object to use the documents Object Styles.
At the moment I am creating bios, each bio requires a headshot. I have created a basic text box in InDesign into which I have embedded a small graphic frame to which I have assigned the Object Style "Headshot Box". Once this is created I open InCopy, place in the persons bio copy. Import the file into InDesign, edit it and place the relevant headshot in the "Headshot Box". I can then edit the Paragraph Style and Character Style, however to edit…1 vote -
Option to lock text box position only, with text remaining editable
I would love the ability to lock the position of text boxes in a layout, while still allowing editing of the text contents. (Similar to the multiple types of layer lock in Photoshop).
This would be useful for the template documents I make and then share with collaborators. Other users edit the text, but sometimes accidentally nudge text boxes out of place that should be consistent in placement. I use Object Styles to check placement, but it's time-consuming to check each text box in a document with 100+ pages.

Add the following features to Buttons and Forms menu.
Add the following features to Buttons and Forms Format menu.
Options: Alignment - Left, Right, Center, and Default Value.
Format: Number, Percentage, Date, Time and Special - Zip Code, Phone Number..
I create a LOT of fillable PDFs and it would save HOURS of time if I could format the fields in InDesign.1 vote -
Pages Folders!
Being able to group and collapse sections/chapters/draft/optional layouts would be a huge help.

Exporting an InDesign document to a HTML5 document
It would be great if InDesign will have the possibility in the near future to export/convert an InDesign document to a HTML5 document. Now you have to buy an expensive subscription for the In5 Plugin to do this.

Add New Stand-Alone Styles for Tracking Changes in Layout View
There are times when I need two lines of text to stay in a frame/page. I can do this manually, but I get overrides. I could accomplish this using paragraph styles, but globally it would impact other frame layouts; or result in many more paragraph styles (I already have over 40 for long documents). I could do it using character styles, which I do, but then I lose other necessary character styles like italics applied to a book title.
If we could have a separate Style for 'tracking', kerning, character spacing, character width, etc. it would. be so helpful.

Improve Performance when Using Multiple Paragraph Styles with GREP
I love the capability of using GREP in a paragraph style, but cannot use it much without penalty. If I used too many, the performance slows way down and crashes occur much more often. I have a high horsepower PC and a Macbook Pro with apple silicone, both with 32GB ram and both suffer from this issue.

Defined dynamic Elements (images, videos & Text....) editable by Google Sheets, API or online Editor
I like to design in Indesign a document (businesscard, flyer u.a) and others can edit every released text, imagefields by themself with a free online Indesign Editor or with API, Google Sheet or Airtable Database.
So if a new employee comes a other team without indesign can edit the business card or the campagne design with new images and textes. It should be possible to export Print-PDF and PNG/JPG for online campagnes.1 vote -
Store Export settings along with PDF and update PDF with the same settings
I find it hard to impossible to tell the export settings of a PDF file just from the file. Am I missing where to look? I would like to have
- Write settings as human readable text into the metadata of PDF Files, when they are exported
- Export settings as Export preset, stored along with PDF (as metadata within the file)
- Import the Export Presets by pointing at an existing PDF File (with this metadata available)
- Update any PDF File (given the export settings-metadata are available) with the same settings by pointing to the the File that is to be updated

Please add Document First Page Number and Document Page Range to Text Variables
I'm doing a layout for a scientific journal, and each article is in a separate file. The articles are then combined into a book. An important piece of information is the page range, which is part of the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) used by scientists to search. Additional text variables like Document Start Page and Document Page Range are much needed. The last variable requires separator formatting between numbers (e.g. 35-70 or 35…70)

Protect approved text or pages. Properly lock text, objects or layers so that Ctrl Z doesn't undo the lock
Sometimes when I am doing multiple Ctrl-Zs on a page it flicks back to an article on a previous page and undoes that too. If that has been previously approved and Ctrl Z makes changes I miss, that's a problem, especially if I press another key by mistake before I can do re-do. It would be very useful to properly lock approved content so that Ctrl-Z doesn't affect it. A default option would be great.

InCopy - Indicator of the active text frame
When working with overlapping text frames, users can sometimes become confused about which frame they are editing. Is there a way to visually indicate the currently active text frame? For instance, highlighting it with a colored border could be helpful.
Alternatively, providing a simpler method to switch between different text frames would also be beneficial.

Functionality for Properties Panel - similar to Illustrator Properties Panel
I love the properties panel in InDesign. It's fantastic for beginners. I have them set up the interface to look a lot like PS and AI. I think it makes it easier to learn and feels more familiar if they have experience with the other apps. The properties panel in Illustrator has fantastic functionality. The panels are all there so you don't have to open the floating panels. The ... allows you to open the actual panel if you need more. I would like the InDesign Properties panel to work the same way. There are commands hidden in the paragraph…

Multiple caption metadata items on one line
At the moment it appears I can create captions with more than one piece of metadata, such as copywright year and artist or Folder 0 and name. But each of these must be on its own line. There is no way to have all the data one one line unless I generate a static caption then use Find/Change.
We should be able to make captions with multiple metadata tags inline without requiring a linebreak.

Home button should not disappear
It's somewhat annoying for the home button to constantly disappear / reappear because I watch people (and myself) misclick on the File menu or maximize the program accidentally many times a day. Just leave it there all the time like in Photoshop (it's also incredibly annoying that this behavior is inconsistent across apps.)

More swatches in the program by default
Include more color swatches that are always in the program by default, so you don't have to download and then import swatches to get basic things like shades of grey... Just provide all the color options available in illustrator.
