Multiple footnote groups/storys on one story.
It would be very useful if it is possible to have 2 [or more] footnote groups on 1 story.
For example, I have a main text, then there are 2 commentary texts, that both are linked with numbers [like footnotes] to the main text; & they are separately numbered & in separate frames.
Would be amazing!!!

Footnotes in Separate Detached Frame.
It is a very important feature to be able to customise the layout of footnotes with full control. Currently footnotes in InDesign are attached to the main text frame, & you have no control over it.
We suggest being able to have footnotes in a separate fully customisable text frame, while still being linked to the main frame!

More powerful use of Conditional Text
Conditional text is a great tool, but limited. It could be used to apply formatting to text that would survive the "clear overrides" of para or char styles.
I can see that conditional formatting that changed the text itself could be difficult to implement (such as font size, applying italics, small caps, no break, no hyphenation...) but if it could do that, it could prove very handy to giving a persistent formatting "style" that would not be affected by clearing overrides.
Also: Sometimes highlighting or underlining is not appropriate. I'd like a flag in the margin that marks the beginning…

Highlighting different anchor point of anchored objects to differentiate them from each other
My team uses a lot of anchored objects within tables etc and sometimes it becomes difficult to know which object belongs to which anchor point. Would be great for there to be a way to highlight when you select an object, which anchor point it belongs to. Maybe by changing the colour?

Change case Find/Replace dialog
It would fantastic to force Lower case/Upper case/Title case/Sentence case by Text or GREP pattern in Find/Change dialog.
Also would be very useful including this into GREP style.17 votes -
Make "Paste without formatting" work for any type of text in clipboard
If I want to paste text into InDesign and use the destination formatting rather than whatever the source is, I'm hard-wired to use "ctrl + shift + V". However it appears that if the contents of the clipboard are plain text, this command isn't available, presumably because InDesign thinks it's not necessary.
This means that the interface is inconsistent, because sometimes you need ctrl + V and sometimes you need ctrl + shift + V, depending on what's on the clipboard.
The option should always be available so that if you want plain text you can use the ctrl +…

Procentual increasing of font size
When a text box has multiple text sizes and you want to increase all the sizes, it would be great to be able to do that with for example procentual increasing.

Bring back newly activated fonts
Since updating to Indesign CC 2018, we can no longer use newly activated fonts. I have to restart Indesign after each time I activate a font. Please fix!

Smart hyphenation
A great feature would be if InDesign could add hyphenation rules automatically when when using discretionary hyphens. A pop-up window that asks if you want this word to hyphenate on every instance of the word where you insert the hyphen the first time. I find it a bit too tedious to make new H-rules for every word. This is very relevant for non-english languages where the the pre-defined H-rules isn't very good. There is probably better ways to to this, but I think its time InDesign's hyphenation feature get a little bit smarter.

Custom Tagging/Grouping Filter for Fonts
I'm posting this in InDesign, but the implementation may be easier as a Cloud feature so that it would be viable through all the Adobe programs that heavily use font (Photoshop/Illustrator/InCopy/etc.)
I'd love the ability to add custom tags to my fonts that are personalized to my individual account, and the subsequent ability to filter fonts by my tags.
Example: I might tag several fonts that I purchased a license for only a specific client under their name (PrivateCo). I might also tag several different fonts I received from a client to do a marketing campaign for under their name…

Spell Check in Reverse (Backward) direction.
When running spellcheck on a document.. Id like to be able to go back. I click through the spell check pretty fast in the interest of time. Id Like a "back button" instead of just a "skip" forward button or "ignore all" button... Instead of having to go through the entire document to get back to the word i saw that might be misspelled. I'd like to be able to click back to the word then proceed through the remainder of the document.
13 votesWe have implemented this feature in the latest version of InDesign (InDesign 15.0). Now in addition to Spell Check in Forward direction, you can choose “Backward” direction while checking spelling.
Please upgrade your InDesign application to the latest version to try out this feature.

Allow document to be editable while using "FIND FONT"
Add the ability to edit and interact with the underlying document while the FIND FONT window is open (just like we can do while the regular FIND/CHANGE window is open)
When FIND FONT is open, the ONLY thing we can do is locate/substitute fonts. We aren't able to interact with the document in any other way. Often while using FIND FONT to locate where missing fonts are used, we find that the issue is actually just some text that we forgot to style properly, or a rogue invisible character that should simply be deleted. But in order to accomplish any…

Allow import of endnotes as plain text
I have to be honest. The footnote / endnotes automation in Indesign is a complete failure. I absolutely HATE it!!! Please, allow me to turn this feature off, and import endnotes as plain text in the same text flow as the article. Seriously, the addition of the automated endnotes feature has damaged my relationship with Adobe. It is just terrible.

Option to globally reverse paragraph direction in a multipage document from left to right or right to left..
In a multipage document, a reverse layout option reverses only page layout and not each paragraph of the documents. It would be great if we have a globally reverse paragraph direction in a multipage document from left to right or right to left. This would help in translating left-right paragraph based language into right-left paragraph based languages. Also, it would save a lot of time on the InDesign user to flip each paragraph manually.

Dictionary defined layer overrule paragraph style dictionary for multi language documents
Let the Layer defined as French overrule the used paragraph style. So you don't need the create a copy of the style for another language. The layer carries the dictionary, so UK layer = UK dictionary, FR layer = Fr dictionary. Easy and very smart.

OpenType-SVG color shapes are not rendered via Create Outlines
Outlining color fonts does not display the actual colored shapes, and in the case of Trajan & Gilbert, the outlining process is relying on the CFF shapes. As a user, I would expect to see the colored SVG shapes.

Indents without first line indent
Would be great if you could change the indent feature. Right now, if you use the indent function, it also gives the first line an indent. It would be better if you could add an indent in the paragraph style without affecting the first line of the body copy.
