Allow import of endnotes as plain text
I have to be honest. The footnote / endnotes automation in Indesign is a complete failure. I absolutely HATE it!!! Please, allow me to turn this feature off, and import endnotes as plain text in the same text flow as the article. Seriously, the addition of the automated endnotes feature has damaged my relationship with Adobe. It is just terrible.

This is fixed. When importing a Word document, you can choose to import endnotes as static text.
However, after importing there is still no way to export endnotes back to word/rtf or to convert them to static text. So then you might still be screwed.

YES!!! Allow us to turn it off. Three-quarters of the way through a 300-page journal and all of a sudden the endnotes are appearing on their own page. If I try to copy or cut and paste at the end of the document it removes the numbers.

The newest Quark XPress update addresses this issue excellently! Maybe it's time to leave Indesign for Quark. Here's what Quark has done:
Word Import enhanced — The Word import filter now supports explicit options to include/exclude Footnotes, Hyperlinks and Pictures. You can also import Footnotes as static text at the end of the story flow and import Word tables as native QuarkXPress tables.
