  1. Autmatic High of Textframes and Tabel-Cells in steps/on grid

If a textframe has an automatic high, is dos not fit on the grid. it would be nice, when there would be the option "fit on grid" or/and "in steps of XX mm". The same probelm is in Tabels, when in one cell the text get lmultiline.

  2. Option-Click to indent both sides of a paragraph

When using cursor to click on the up/down arrows in the paragraph palette to increase or decrease indent, hold the option key to indent both sides. (Option key is common to constraining reshape to both sides of an object.)

  3. More control with paragraph shading

I would like more control over the space insets in the paragraph shading options. When a long paragraph of text flow on to the next page there is no way to control the spacing above (padding) when we're in the middle of the paragraph and "clip to frame" is checked. It is possible to get away with it if the distance from the top-margin and the first baseline is sufficient, but most of the time I want more space. I think it would be better if the text was forced down to the second baseline if necessary. The end goal…

  4. Hiding system fonts or warning about using them

Add system fonts in the unauthorized fonts of the preflight panel.
I work in the IT department of a press group; our users work on Mac, but we use a Windows InDesign Server solution to process PDF’s. Our users are warned that they should use only OTF fonts but some of them ignore these warnings.

The other solution would be to be able to hide system fonts in the font dropdown menu.

  7. Turn off 'missing fonts' alert

A setting (with no docs open) that says "don't alert me to missing fonts" when I open a doc. It would be just like the "don't ask me about missing links" setting - which we like in the studio. Because sometimes we need to check lots of docs for something (could be a house style thing, a find-replace thing, a colour check thing etc) but don't want to be 'font-alerted' at this stage. The warning seems too pedantic when we're nowhere near final production stages...

  8. Recent Fonts List Modification to maintain the last selected position

Currently, if you have Number of Recent Fonts to Display set to anything but zero (0), recent fonts appear at the font drop down list, but the drop down starts at the top of the fonts list no matter what your current font is.

If I am just wanting the next or previous font in the list from the font I am currently using, I now have to scroll all the way down to that font. When the Number of Recent Fonts to Display is set to zero (0), when the drop down is selected, it is positioned at the…

  9. Ability to create a master text file that updates everywhere the content is used, much like DocsFlow or WordsFlow, but better.

I am constantly making catalogs and the proofing process is arduous because we always have to read through text to check for spelling errors, grammar mistakes, etc. If there was a way to create one Master text file (whether it’s an InDesign, Word, Excel doc, etc) and link it to any document, have one or more people edit it, have it update across the board and not override any local changes would be fantastic. Now, I know there are extensions you can use, such as DocsFlow and WordFlow, but the problem with these is that you cannot choose specific text…

  10. Add ability to define text sections

There could be a panel much like the conditional text panel, which allows you to define and name text ranges/sections, which should be stackable.

Thinking of HTML/XML/EPUB export of content, you are then able to feed the sections into div containers (<div class="sec1"><h1>Blabla</h1><p>blablablablabl</p>...</div>).
Nowadays such containers, which you must have according to the DTD/Schema or Website the content will be published after print publishing, have to be added by hand or with tricky XSLT programming.

  11. Kerning Editor (with individual margin alignment options)

A Kerning Editor would fit nicely into the kerning feature, which allows to choose between optical, metrical kerning. The user would define his own kerning names.
The Kerning Editor has a GUI which allows the user to define his own kerning pairs which override the metrical ones defined in the font's kerning tables. There I can load the metrical kerning or the optical kerning as a start for my individual kerning.
Furthermore the new Kerning Editor has two more tokens/glyphs to kern with: the left and the right margin of a text frame. So the user can define his own…

  13. freeze hyphenation, like XPress earlier

10 Years ago. with Xpress 4.0, there was the option to freeze hyphenation.
After you send a Version to the client, you can freeze the hyphenation and after that, only manually hyphenation and line breaks are common.
Reason: Client wants other hyphenations or line breaks, after he becomes the next version, there are more new hyphenations followed by the next correction. And finaly, you have broken every line manually.

  15. Mimic Text Box

For Example: If you have a list of people and you create a text box for each person that has a number in the text box.

Further in the document you would have a map that also has the numbers showing which person is situated where.

What would be very helpful is to have those 2 numbers (1 and 1, 2 and 2, etc.) be able to auto update the other.

So when someone is removed from the list, the person numbered 10 originally now becomes 9, which also auto updates on the map

  16. Independent column widths in text frame

Please add the option to have independent column-widths in a text frame. This would be really useful for text in nearly any letterhead footer.

  17. 'Apply Similar Filter' character addition

As already used in Photoshop and Illustrator, the 'Apply Similar Filter' to text and character seems like a logical step, given that InDesign is a primarily text heavy application, being able to select similar fonts would be a must in my books.

  18. Replace all missing glyphs

Option in the find replace dialogue to replace all missing glyphs, not just swapping one glyph for another. As far as I know, you have to go one by one throughout a document. The find/replace Opentype feature (text tab hasn't worked for me either.)

  19. Outlining text removes underlines (line above and below)

When supplying PDFs to printers they often/always require all text to be outlined. If you put an underline on any text and than go 'Type > Create Outlines', only the text becomes outlined and it completely removes any underline (line above and below that I've setup in paragraph styles). Expected results: To have the text outlined and retain the line above/below.

  20. Grammar Check

Add a feature similar to the Grammarly App to check for grammar and sentence structure errors when typing text in InDesign.
