For now I made an automated task using GREP. I explain this all in an online video (speaking Dutch, sorry :] ). You can find it here: https://www.rolandmol.nl/blog/prijzen-schuin-doorstrepen/
The solution starts at 2:40 :)

    Hey Jens,

By far the best option at the moment is the script 'Batch convert/export' by Peter Kahrel. I use it every single day and does almost exactly what you describe and much more. The only downside (if that really is one) is that it always exports all open InDesign files. Something I tend to forget now and then. Read the manual well. It takes a little while to understand all the possibilities but once you do you will ask yourself how you could ever have done without it. And because it's a script you can also assign a keyboard shortcut to it to make things even easier for you :)

Fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign 2020 – that is, InDesign 15.0.1

In the Creative Cloud Desktop application, click on the Updates section on the left. You should be able to see the Update available for InDesign. Please update your InDesign application to this version to try out the fix.

Let us know in the comments section if you face any problem with the updation process.

    InDesign CC : 2020 / 15.0.0.155
    MacOS : 10.13.6
MS Excel : 16.30 for Mac

When importing an Excel sheet containing dates to InDesign, all dates are displayed as zero's: 0/0/0

Any date format fails to import properly.
Only when using formula =text(TODAY();"dd-mm-yy") the date is imported correctly (because I force the date to be imported as literal text)

For now that is the workaround. Please correct the bug.

FYI keyboard shortcuts can also be assigned to single scripts :)
So: Cmd-E for export and for example Cmd-Ctrl-E for batch_convert.
As I said: I use it every day :)

    Hi Jeff,
Have you ever heard of the script 'batch_convert.jsx' ? It's a free script by Peter Kahrel. https://creativepro.com/files/kahrel/indesign/batch_convert.html

This script exports to PDF and a lot of other interesting things. In this script, amongst other settings, you can choose to overwrite existing files (or not) and it works like a charm. I use it every day.

Give it a try. You'll be surprised what this script can do for you! :)

@kat - I'm running into the same problems: clients changing the PDF filename and then I have to guess which original it was. My best solution is to save my InDesign and PDF files always with the date in the filename. 181126 would be for today. When my client returns one year later I can open up the pdf and always retrieve the original creation date. That creation date will be my starting point for the search. Always bingo :)

I see a lot of ideas when it comes to PDF export and file naming behavior. All ideas could come together in 1 overall feature. In the left export column can be added an extra option called File naming.

The option containes the ability to force InDesign to use the original filename and you can choose extra options for naming. Such as prefix and/or suffix. Here you can also select the option to export single pages or spreads to PDF

Hi All, this feature is now added in the latest version of InDesign i.e. InDesign 13.1.

You can upgrade your InDesign to get access to this feature.

    Regards
    Javed
