Anchored textframe with auto-sizing/auto-adjusting "height" causes InDesign 2020 to freeze
Anchored textframe with auto-sizing/auto-adjusting "height", text aligned to baseline and anchored object settings "anchored position: custom", "anchorPoint: bottom left/center/right" causes InDesign 2020 (15.0.1) to freeze (on Mac and PC).
- create an new document (size doesn't matter)
- create an new textframe (dimensions doesn't matter)
- create a second textframe (dimensions doesn't matter)
- insert some text in second generated textframe
- select the text and apply the option "align to baseline".
- anchor second textframe into the first created textframe
- set anchored object settings of the anchored textframe to: "anchored position: custom" and "anchorPoint: bottom left or bottom center or bottom right"
select the anchored textframe
choose the textframe fit option "frame to content" or use the shortcut "strg + alt + c" on PC
InDesign 2020 freezes.
or repeat steps 1. to 8. and choose auto-sizing type "height" or "height and width" or "height and width proportionally" for the anchored textframe
InDesign 2020 freezes.
see attached screenshot. I can't attach a .indd or .idml file cause this is not allowed (error: invalid file type)
In previous versions (CC 2018, CC 2019) auto-adjusting "height" works as expected
Fix is available in the latest update of InDesign – 16.3.2 on Mac and 16.3 on Win.
Please update your copy of InDesign to the latest available update via CCD app.

STILL NOT RESOLVED IN 16.2. Are you seriously reviewing this since jan 2020???

I took another look at the bugs and now think they're separate.
Here the separate bugreport:

Hi,
Today i noticed that InDesign crashes when I fit the textframe to its contents, when that textframe is placed as "text" inside another textframe not separated by paragraph breaks.I have a file that has one textframe for the main column. In it I placed several smaller textframes with more than one column as textelements.
I didn't separate them by a space or linebreak. When fitting one of the smaller frames to its content by double clicking the lower reference point in the middle to get rid of whitespace inbetween the smaller frames, indesign crashes immediatly. When adding linebreaks inbetween the individual textframes inside the main one, the "fitting frame to content"-action works fine.
Attached is a video of the problem.
If you have any questions feel free to ask. Please fix the problem.
My company is using these textframe-in-textframe solution as templates to automatically populate the frames with text using a script. When executing that script Indesign crashed and we had to go look for the issue. Fixed the templates by adding linebreaks. It seems like those are similar bugs so the reason for them could be related, or do you guys think its a separate one? Ill open another ticket then.

Hi together,
I recreated that bug with InDesign 2020 version 15.0.3.425 on my German Windows 10.
InDesign will crash in the moment I try to apply "align to baseline" in step 7 if the text frame is already anchored:[1] Create an new document.
[2] Create an new text frame ( text frame A ).
[3] Create a second textframe ( text frame B ).
[4] Insert some text in text frame B.
[5] Set auto-size of text frame B to height only ( pinned top position ).
[6] Anchor text frame B to text frame B's text.[7] Select the text in the anchored text frame B and apply the option "align to baseline".
Crash.
Regards,
Uwe Laubender

No change with InDesign Release 15.0.3. x64:
InDesign still freezes although "InDesign randomly crashes on re-sizing a text frame with auto-size applied" is mentioned in the list of fixed bugs. -

I can second that. It occurs also with the anchored setting "AnchorPosition.ABOVE_LINE"
My customer just updated to CC 2020 and this bug crashed his entire workflow with anchored objects.
I suspected XML at first because it was used here, but Indesign crashes without XML around it.I added two test files. https://cloud.publishingx.de/s/ywipG5YeYAP3TqL Just autofit the second, red frame.

Do you need my example document?
Should I report this bug also on the Adobe prerelease website? -

Actually it doesn't look like it is the 3rd party apps causing the problem.
Go to Preferences > Clipboard Handling and deselect 'Copy PDF to Clipboard' and this seems to stop the crashes and allow you to continue using the 3rd party apps.

Thanks for pointing me to the right direction. Indeed it was my clipboard app "Copied" that was causing the crashes.

Yes I am using Keyboard Maestro.
Seems to have been reported here 2 years ago as well - https://forum.keyboardmaestro.com/t/km-causes-adobe-indesign-to-crash-when-copying/5183/4
Note - it doesn't crash for me if I select auto-expand height.
