  1. Separation preview ink percentages wrong

I just upgraded to the 2022 (v17) version of InDesign, and my separations preview percentages are blatantly wrong (e.g. what should have 200% ink coverage was showing up as 0% for every swatch). Even when it gave believable percentages of ink coverage, it still lagged significantly behind the 2021 (v16.4) version. My coworkers had the same issue, but when we reverted back to the prior version, we had no trouble.

  2. Disable automatic sect-tags on PDF export

When exporting a tagged PDF, InDesign automatically creates Sect-Tags for each story. I would like to be able to disable this feature on export for the following reasons:

    1. As far as I know, they are of limited value for screen reader users. The content is usually already well structured by means of an appropriate heading structure.
    2. It is very difficult to integrate figures into a story in a semantically correct/meaningful way. When anchoring them in the text, they will be nested in p-tags, which is according to PDF/UA not correct semantically. Hence, I avoid creating stories and use the article…

  3. Damaged File message

I'm getting the same error message "file is damaged when trying to create new ICML files. There seems to be a bug in the latest update. InDesign saves a recovered file and that seems to fix the problem. BUT the file is not damaged, it seems to be a bug in the latest update. Can you guys take a look.

    Thanks!!

  4. InDesign 16.3.2 on Mac: with GPU, won't render images in frames with a fill applied

    InDesign 2021 16.3.2
    macOS Mojave 10.14.6 (18G9323)
    MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)
    MacBookPro10,1
    Intel Core i7, 2.7 GHz
    16 GB RAM
Intel HD Graphics 4000 (1536 MB VRAM)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M (1 GB VRAM)

With "GPU Performance" enabled (or with "GPU Preview" on) images will not render if the containing frame has a fill applied. Note: InDesign reports that a compatible GPU and monitor are detected. Also, it doesn't matter whether "Animated zoom" is enabled or not. See screenshots 1–3.

With GPU Preview disabled (or with CPU Preview on) the images render correctly. See screenshots 4–5.

  6. Quranic annotation signs not working in Indesign

Hi. Standard Pakistani Quranic text is not rendered properly in Indesign because it is unable to handle a Unicode block correctly (see attachments)

    Version of Adobe InDesign:
    2021 16.3.2

    Steps to reproduce the issues:
To recreate this problem, download the font 'PakType Naskh Basic' from link below:
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/paktype/files/latest/download

For Quranic text sample, use text from link below:
    https://svn.code.sf.net/p/paktype/code/Fonts/Deployment/Sura-Fatiha.html

I hope this bug is fixed as soon as possible because we Pakistanis need to compose standardized Quran in Indesign. Thank you.

  7. indesign export to pdf unusable for Thai

Basically all the diacritics are messed up, regardless of font used. The PDF looks fine but the text if copied from the PdF is garbled.
This is in 16.2.1 (2021). It was working in 2019.

  8. Anomalous character missing glyph in the Story editor – Serious file problems

I report a bug regarding an InDesign document of an anomalous character that is found in the "Story editor", which has already been reported in older versions of Adobe Indesign.
    (OS version: BigSur 11.3.1)
    (Adobe InDesign version: 16.2)

As you can see in the examples that I attach, the text presents problems and I believe it is caused (or highlighted) by the missing glyph signs in each line of the "story editor", which does not appear to exist in the text.

The problem is not solved by making the file idml.
I tried to fix it by copying the text…

  10. PNG Export Quality

There is a huge difference in the rendering quality of JPEGs vs PNGs in InDesign.

See attached document that demonstrates the difference between the two formats, exported from the same InDesign document, using maximum quality, 72 DPI with anti-aliasing turned on.

The obvious differences are the moiré in the white top and the edges of the legs in the girl at the bottom, including the fine detail in the stitching.

It would be great if the PNG export engine could be improved.

  11. Index sorting: offering choices «letter by letter» vs «word by word» vs user defined

When generating an index, InDesign has always use letters by letters sorting. It would be far useful if InDesign Index offer the choice between:
    a) letters by letters;
    b) Words by Words;
    or c) Custom user entry

Having to manually fix multiple level of indexes is painful and make no sense at all with a computer generated content like an Index.

PS: Affinity Publisher is using «words by words» by default.

  13. InDesign Review Feature

My coworker and I are both suddenly facing major problems with the review functionality with Adobe InDesign 16.1 (Windows). This has only been occurring for about 10 days. When the review function actually works instead of an error or just loading nonstop (only works 30% of the time now), the links often don't work in the end for other viewers to review and show up as an error. Now, when this works, the comments from the review link are not showing up where they were placed, and when we go in to implement them manually in InDesign from the weblink,…

  14. Share for Review 'highlight' and 'strike through' issues

The share for review 'highlight' function and 'strike through' function are not visible in the host's files or the online preview. When one of our designers creates a document and then shares it with the team for review we receive a notification that text has been highlighted. When you navigate to the online preview or to the original indesign working file the notification lives in the share for review box but no text is highlighted so you don't know where the intended edit is. The same happens with the strike through function. Pinned items or using the marker tool are…

  15. Serious GREP style bug: ampersands

    Hi, InDesign team.

I've run into a serious bug with GREP styles. Any GREP expression containing an ampersand character that is entered as a GREP style in a paragraph style will suddenly acquire additional ampersands whenever I scroll through the list of GREP styles.

    STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

Create a simple GREP style as part of a paragraph style.
The entire GREP expression should consist of the single character &. (Though this also happens when the & is part of longer expressions.)
Make enough other GREP styles that you need to scroll in the window to see them all.
    Close the…

  16. Hyphenation at page break while option »Hyphenate Across Column« is not selected

    InDesign 16.0.2
    InDesign 13.1.1

The option not to "Hyphenate Across Column" in hyphenation settings does not seem to work reliably. Not in InDesign CC 2018 and not in InDesign CC 2021.
Sometimes it is ignored and sometimes it is taken into account. See the appended screenshots.
With each recomposing of the text/stories, the behaviour can change: sometimes this way and sometimes that way.
    Please make the behaviour computable.

    Kind regards
    Martin Fischer

  17. Can't wrap the first line of a page

If I place an anchored image at the very start of the page, the first line does not wrap, it disappears behind the image. One solution in the forum was: Make an invisible line of 0pt. Are you kidding me?

  18. iCloud drive

inDesign thinks links are gone when files are being stored in iCloud Drive (even though the cloud version is still in the same folder on my computer). Please allow inDesign to download linked files in iCloud Drive automatically so I don't have to download and relink manually.

  20. Montserrat Font Constantly trying to load in InDesign

Whenever I open an InDesign file the background task starts up and it is Montserrat Bold trying to load. This occurs no matter what file I have open and whether or not the file uses the font being loaded.
