  1. Indents incorrect when importing Word document

When importing a Word document that contains some indented paragraphs, the left indent being set to 5mm in Word (for example), once placed in InDesign, these 5mm indents typically show as 4.992mm. This would not neccesarily be a problem except that Find/Change in InDesign will not recognise an indent to 3 decimal places and therefore this cannot be located easily and fixed. This is proving to be a big problem in my workflow as I cannot automate the process of re-styling these paragraphs using InDesign Paragraph Styles with Find/Change. This bug occurs whatever measurement system is used, i.e. mm, inches,…

  2. Mongolian

Issue: InDesign does not support Mongolian vertical text direction from left-to-right.

    Version: InDesign 2019, 14.0.2 x64

    Steps:
    1. Place or paste Mongolian text into an InDesign text frame by using the attached Word document
    2. Skew the text frame 90 degrees (as done with vertical Chinese and Japanese).

Expected result: Please see the attached Word document and screenshot.

Actual result: Notice that the vertical text direction is right-to-left and not left-to-right. Even if the text frame is skewed in the opposite direction (minus 90 degrees) the text is just mirrored and thus not readable.

Test files and screenshot: They are…

  3. Endnotes are out of sequence in captions and sidebars

I work on books that often have endnotes in captions or sidebars. The captions/sidebars are always set up as separate frames (and sometimes as anchored objects). Any endnotes in separate frames end up at the end of the endnote list, regardless of where they fall in the page order.

  5. 2 Headings in 1 cell is displayed incorrectly in the TOC

Since InDesign version 14.0 x64 (Windows), when creating or updating a TOC, the second heading is directly connected to the first heading without any distance and without chapter number. This only happens if both source headings are in 1 cell.

The proof: Documents made before version 14 have a correct TOC. If I open such a document with version 14 and update the TOC, it will break as mentioned above.

  6. Excel filter rejects custom Cell Range for 26-column sheets (.xlsx-only)

Excel filter rejects custom Cell Range for 26-column sheets (.xlsx-only)

    Steps to reproduce the issues:
    1. Create a new document.
    2. Select File > Place, check Show Import Options, select attached Columns_26.xlsx file.
    3. Note nonstandard default Cell Range: A1:A@10 (should be A1:Z10).

  7. Hanging Indent plus Left Justify makes words float out of text frame

I often use bulleted lists with the commmand/backslash (hanging indent) tool. If the text is aligned left, no problem. But when I use left justify, it sends some of the words off to the right — outside of the text frame! Please see examples below.

The text samples here were using Adobe Paragraph Composer. But when I switched it to World-Ready it fixed it!

I've been having this problem for a while. Before I updated to InDesign 2018 and after the update as well. I'm running El Capitan 10.11.6 on a Mid 2011 iMac.

    Solved in this thread: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2462045

  8. Variable font sliders are laggy

Variable font sliders are much less smooth in InDesign, compared to Illustrator. They are much laggier.

Attached is a screen recording of the Acumin variable font being used in Illustrator (top) and InDesign (bottom).

  10. fontproblem – strange ligatures – invisible font

    Hi there

In InDesign CC23 we have the problem that we sometimes have some issues with ligatures. We have the font Minion Pro activates in the Library. and somehow have the problem, that the ligatures appear to be a completely different character, see the screenshot.
the problem could be resolved by deleting the Minion Font from the application folder > Ressources > Required > Fonts. the Ligatures changed back to the correct character. Or i deactivate the minion regular in the finder. But i need the font for other apps as well, so i need to activate the regular font…

The shortcut for the "Nonbreaking Space" (option+command+X) doesn't work anymore in Indesign 2023 (and 2022). Clearing cache and preferences didn't fix it.

  13. [EPV] Footnote references vanish in tables when the Adobe World-Ready Composer is applied

    Hi together,

tested with InDesign 2020 and also with the current InDesign 2023 version 18.1.0.51 on Windows 10.

If I apply one of the two Adobe World-Ready Composers to text in a table the footnote references in the text will vanish.
The footnote texts themselves do not. It's just the rendering of the footnote reference numbers.

See also this thread at Adobe InDesign Forum:

  15. InDesign 2023 (18.0)

When attempting to switch the font family, the font menu jumps all the way to the top of the list instead of moving up to the previous font family in the list.

Hack solution: If you choose a different weight and then attempt to change the font family, the font menu works correctly and doesn't jump to the top.

This makes 2023 unusable, downgrading until fixed.

  16. Quranic annotation signs not working in Indesign

Hi. Standard Pakistani Quranic text is not rendered properly in Indesign because it is unable to handle a Unicode block correctly (see attachments)

    Version of Adobe InDesign:
    2021 16.3.2

    Steps to reproduce the issues:
To recreate this problem, download the font 'PakType Naskh Basic' from link below:
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/paktype/files/latest/download

For Quranic text sample, use text from link below:
    https://svn.code.sf.net/p/paktype/code/Fonts/Deployment/Sura-Fatiha.html

I hope this bug is fixed as soon as possible because we Pakistanis need to compose standardized Quran in Indesign. Thank you.

  17. Index sorting: offering choices «letter by letter» vs «word by word» vs user defined

When generating an index, InDesign has always use letters by letters sorting. It would be far useful if InDesign Index offer the choice between:
    a) letters by letters;
    b) Words by Words;
    or c) Custom user entry

Having to manually fix multiple level of indexes is painful and make no sense at all with a computer generated content like an Index.

PS: Affinity Publisher is using «words by words» by default.

  18. Hyphenation at page break while option »Hyphenate Across Column« is not selected

    InDesign 16.0.2
    InDesign 13.1.1

The option not to "Hyphenate Across Column" in hyphenation settings does not seem to work reliably. Not in InDesign CC 2018 and not in InDesign CC 2021.
Sometimes it is ignored and sometimes it is taken into account. See the appended screenshots.
With each recomposing of the text/stories, the behaviour can change: sometimes this way and sometimes that way.
    Please make the behaviour computable.

    Kind regards
    Martin Fischer

  19. Variable Font: top of "U" wiggles as you change weight (FreeType bug)

    1. Download and unzip https://www.dropbox.com/s/3b6k0izkm5ma3dy/200719-AdobeVFBug.zip?dl=1

    2. Install the font from font/DaikonVF-mini.ttf

    3. Run InDesign 15.1.1

    4. Type "AU" and choose the Daikon VF font

    5. Click the Variable Font button and move the weight slider between the extreme locations. Observe how the top of "U" "wiggles" (jumps up and down). This is shown in videos/DaikonVF-InDesign-15.1.1.mp4

    6. The same problem occurs in Illustrator 24.2.1 and I have logged it at https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-bugs/suggestions/40945024-variable-font-bug-wiggling-top-of-u

    7. The same problem occurs in DTL OTmaster 7.9 and in FontView 2019 (an open source app built from https://github.com/googlefonts/fontview ) — both apps use older versions of the FreeType library.

    8. The problem no longer occurs in…
