Does Adobe ever fix their bugs? Or do they simply create more with each and every update you release?
This is a glaring issue with your software that you still have not botherred to fix after such a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really wish there was a viable alternative - hopefully there is a company working on something reliable that I can switch to soon.

It's amazing how such a small problem can become such an issue when you are at the fitting and refitting stage of working on a book. Annoyance turns to frustration turns to anger. Here we sit, almost August 2019, and the problem still exists. Thanks for the work-around script (Rick Bates, below), but face it, a detour is still a detour, even if it gets you to the same place.

Again Adobe, the upset stems from your same and recurrent problem (across your product "upgrades"), you don't get it: stop "taking away" features (especially default ones, like you changing the psd default "constraint proportion"... so bad).
Add new options to old features if you think it improves, we'll click it ON if/when it's suits our type of work (or way of working), but don't (why???) take away what's there, works and have been working for ever.

It's amazing the lack of knowledge (or depth of knowledge) you too often demonstrate about how your software are (day in-day out) being used/by whom/and for what kind of projects. Try test driving with people who have been working with them for more than 5 minutes, they might not be cool millennials, but they sure understand Indesign (and PSD, and AI...), and are not confused about "which software" to used for doing "what" well.

For myself, it's sadly the number one complaint I have with Adobe. I use your software every day and find them truly amazing and I think Indesign is the top in it's field.

Wow - ID-Extras stepped up to the plate and is providing a free script as a work-around to this problem. I requested this from them on May 11th and in just one month they did analysis, development, testing, and release. You can't even get a reply from Adobe in that amount of time. Echoing the same frustration as others, here. Please Adobe, reinstate the behaviour that existed in the previous versions.

Alas, I noticed right away that this feature was missing, as I depend on it constantly. It's very frustrating to see such a simple yet brilliant feature disappear, and it's sad that over half a year has passed with no resolution. I await the day, hopefully in my lifetime, when this feature will resurface.

This is an outrageous and sloppy omission. PLEASE fix this.

Upgrades are supposed to improve software, not break it.

Margins not adjusting when a new master page is applied is a HUGE problem for those of use who are book designers. Our first page of a new chapter always has a larger top margin than the rest of the pages and when a book has 100+ chapters, manually changing each page is just very frustrating and a waste of time...especially when it USED to work perfectly. There is no work around other than to use an older version of InDesign, which is sad because the newer version DOES have some great features that I'd like to use. PLEASE fix this issue ASAP!

I also work in book publishing and this issue (or bug) is a problem for us, costing us a lot of time when working on a 400+ page document with several master pages with different size text boxes.

Any word on a fix?

This is very problematic for our book publishing program. We use multiple master pages and make adjustments to them on a regular basis, as part of our overall design process. Primary text frames are not the solution and is really a step back to the QXD days of old. We are a major publisher with hundreds of designers all over the globe, please fix this bug.

Adobe, do you have an update since Ravi Kiran's post from November?

I just spent 45 minutes in a chat session where the Adobe support rep insisted that Indesign is not and has never worked that way. Frustrated I got off with him and found this post. After calling support this time, they also did not know about this feature. When I showed them this page and Ravi's post, all he could say is "oh, see the purple, (Under Review)? This will change to green when it is fixed. No help whatsoever, no workaround, no followup. 6 months and no resolution is not acceptable. We're looking into other solutions for our publishing work. Good luck to all who are similarly screwed.

This is the most maddening bug my colleagues and I have had to work around. As book designers (and we represent over 300 users), we rely on the the ability to make margin adjustments throughout the design process. This bug makes the CC 2019 version feel like an inferior product and a waste of money. Please fix it before moving onto a 2020 version.

Several months later this one still doesn't seem to be resolved. And it is a huge issue for those of us in the publishing industry working on documents with multiple chapters and master pages.

InDesign 2019 not having this ability is almost like taking a step backwards in terms of efficiency.

This is an urgent priority for those of us who work with long documents. Please get this resolved ASAP!

The simplest solution is just to please bring back the old Layout Adjustment. The new Adjust Layout has its place, perhaps, for massive reformatting of an entire document, but the old Layout Adjustment was more of precision tool, and it was not made redundant by the new one.
Please bring back the old Layout Adjustment feature! (Keep the new one if you like, but bring the old one back!)

I spent three hours with Adobe on the phone over two days. The first tech denied that the feature of text frame readjusting automatically had ever been part of indesign. After finally getting supervisor on the phone that knew what he was talking about he directed me to: FILE>Adjust Layout>Auto-Adjust Margins to Page Size Changes. Which can also be found by going to FILE>Document Setup>Auto adjust. When this is to a current document with text, all of the text boxes disappear tiny little markers in the middle of the spread. I'm so SICK of Adobe messing with features that are needed and screwing them up. And if you tell they screwed up they will argue with you.

I agree. Very frustrating change. No reason to mess with Enable Layout Adjustment. If it's not broken, don't fix it!
