Dictionaries, specifically German
The german dictionary in ID is weird. Many common german words it would mark as unknown, but the suggestions show a lot of rarely used ones. Well, when adding words to the dictionary, it can be confusing for the grammar checker to distinguish between verbs, adjectives and nouns if there is no definition for the word type. So, at least for German, but perhaps generally, give the user the option to define if the added word is a noun, adjective or verb.
Example for confusion: "brücken". This is a verb ("brücken" -> to bridge), but also the plural of "Brücke"…

When trying to export to epub, xml, or html Indesign crashes
Tried to revert back to another version and no solution.

Gradient palette window is cutting off -- Show Options turned on
Gradient palette not fully expanding after clicking "Show Options". Everything below the Reverse Gradient option is cut off and there's no way to expand the palette window to make edits to gradient bar. See attachment.
Tried restarting computer and made sure InDesign is up to date (18.2.1)
I should also note that this is an issue on multiple computers.

frozen
The screen does not update/move when zooming or scrolling the pages. The rulers indicate that I am moving between pages in the document, but the screen stays frozen on one page. After clicking and opening menus a number of times, the screen eventually updates. This happens intermittently, on various documents, no matter the complexity/file-size. Indesign is up-to-date. (MacOS Big Sur 11.7.4)

Major delay when changing page via the page up/down or double-clicking on the page icon
Major delay when changing page via the page up/down or double-clicking on the page icon. Usually happens when you have first opened a document. For example when you apply the keyboard command Opt-Pagedown, the icon on the bottom left of the screen immediately shows the page has changed but nothing happens. Sometimes it wont redraw the new page until you click on the screen and this only works after some time has passed (approx 6-8 seconds after). This was always instant in previous versions. My settings for view are on >Typical and I have Type Contextual Control set to >OFF.

Endnotes in ePub use identical id's where an id should be Unique
When InDesign 18.0 and earlier versions make a reflowable ePub, the endnotes cause the file to be rejected when checked by https://www.ebookit.com/tools/bp/Bo/eBookIt/epub-validator. The reason: each endnote reference is embedded in a span with an id twice, and the name or identifier of that id is the same. In HTML (which is the construct of an ePub) each id should be unique. You cannot have a HTML file with two elements with the same id-name. Wörterbuch InDesign Deutsch -2006 neue Rechtschreibung 18.2.1. x64
Wenn ich die Neue Deutsche Rechtschreibung ab 2006 für meine Dokumente einstelle, springt die Einstellung beim Wort selbst (rechte Maustaste) jedes mal zurück auf die alte Rechtschreibung. Egal was ich versuche - diese Einstellung wird nicht im Dokument abgespeichert.
Ist das ein Bug?

Index entries not displaying
Hi, I have InDesign version 18.2.1 and am working on the translation of my book. Since yesterday evening I can no longer update the index. It only shows some index entries instead of all of them. Could you please provide a solution? By the way, I attach here two screenshots.

InDesign 2023 Find/Replace is broken
In InDesign 2023 Find/Replace, page views don't update correctly with subsequent Find or Find/Change clicks and I couldn't see where I was. This only happened on my 2012 mac mini. On a 2013 model that I use at work, it worked fine. I had to go back to the previous version on both computers so they'd be able to open the same files.

Importing Excel unformatted table text-based formulas import as "-1"
Indesign 17.4
steps to reproduce:
a) In Microsoft Excel (for Mac version 16.63.1), in cell A1 add "Some text"
b) in cell B1 add formula "=A1"
c) save excel document .xlsx
d) Import into indesign as Unformatted Tableexpected result: table cell A2 contents should be "Some text", same as A1
Actual result: table cell A2 contents is "-1"

Non-breaking hypens and column break in linked word file does not work in InDesign
I have a word file linked to my InDesign document. However, it is not working as anticipated. Two examples:
* non-breaking hyphens in the word document disappears in InDesign
* manual column breaks in the word document becomes pages breaks in InDesign - I have tried to use a second text frame in the same page as a workaround, but the second frame remains empty (until moved to the next page).1 vote -
Screen flickers when I move an item
When I want to move something , for example a text frame, my screen flickers. This is very annoying and i'm afraid if i move items too much, Indesign will crash. What can I do to fix this?

I've restarted indesign, restarted my laptop, reinstalled, and my swatch panel keeps bugging out and looking like this, even when moved to different spots in the ui. Please help! Running version 18.1

thumbnail publish online
Publish online thumbnails extend off the right hand side of the browser window and cover the button for forward navigation through the thumbails. This means that the only way to navigate to the desired page is by clicking through page by page, or by resizing the browser window and clicking quickly before the thumbnails have time to respond and cover the button.
I don't know if this is a bug since it's my first time using publish online but if it isn't, there certainly needs to be a better way to navigate through a long document, like a book. For…

print booklet inside bleed bug
when exporting using "print PDF", there is a problem with the inside bleed. i think it is because the export booklet referts to left-right bleed instead of inside-outside.
if i set inside bleed-inside to 0, the pdf booklet is exported without the left bleed. if i set bleed-inside to 5mm then it exports with a bleed-left.
this is a bug

Return the use of "master pages" instead of "parent pages"
In the latest version Adobe decided that their job was to educate us to speak proper language, which is why the word "master pages" was replaced with "parent pages".
We do not find any problem with the phrase "master pages" and believe that it is not Adobe's role to dictate policy according to progressive agendas.
We demand to return to the previous concept of "master pages".
The term "parent pages" is confusing and misleading, with all the documentation of the software on the web for 2 decades referring to master pages.27 votes -
Indesign crashing issues
Version of Adobe InDesign: 18.2.1, 18.1
Yesterday and also today I am facing multiple crashes. I had 3 files open, when I opened 3rd file & wanting to copy & paste photos into the other file problem started. Indesign started to load something, it got stucked for a few minutes & then crashed. Pictures which I wanted to copy had about 150MB. Page Tool 'Use Spacing' does not affect pages, then crashes
As you can see from the screenshot, the use spacing option does not affect pages at all. I've got about 39mm of space between each page, tried typing 5mm and they don't move, even though it displays as 5mm.
No matter how many pages are selected with the Page Tool option, nothing changes.
Previously had a problem with the page align tool, but managed to fix it by resetting Indesign Preferences.
This didn't fix the 'Use Spacing' option though, and after a few times of typing various numbers into the box, it crashes.
Any patches to help with this?

WordsFlow
When deciding against using WordsFlow plugin by EmSoftware, not renewing from trial license, it continued not only to be on the main FILE menu but it also is preventing normal (InDesign) placing of graphic files into InDesign files by a popup window asking for license renewal information. If I cancel that window, it cancels the PLACE... operation. In other words, WordsFlow does not extricate itself from the program even if no longer using and registered AND after uninstalling from the Windows APP utility, BUT it continues to interfere with normal InDesign operation.
How do I get rid of this?1 vote
