Creating TOC cause InDesign crash
I have a document of 97 pages and I need to create the TOC with one single style (it's a list of product SKUs).
Every time I click OK on my TOC dialog to create the TOC InDesign crashes.
I tried to convert the document in IDML and reopen it but I have no luck.2 votesThanks for reporting the issue

table of contents bold italic
Use a style for a header that converts text to bold face.
Use that header style to have header text that includes some italics.
In the Table of Contents pane, associate that header style with a style that is Regular type face.
When updating the Table of Contents, the entry for that header will correctly have Bold text replaced with Regular text, but will leave Bold Italic text unchanged. It should replace Bold Italic text with Regular Italic text.

keeping cross references when updating linked data
In my file (IDCC2019), the technical data of the tables are imported from an Excel database. The index generated from these data works perfectly. But when updating these links, cross-references are removed. How to keep cross references when updating linked data?

book file don't work
Hi,
unfortunately it looks like the book file isn't work anymore with InDesign CC 2018.1 in Windows 10.
On my Mac it is working! I have attached two hardcopies (the one with correct page numbers is from Mac, the other from Windows 10 pro).
Obviously I tried to create a new book file and added files manually – same result.
As a result all cross-references between documents are wrong.
Any ideas?

2 votesWe’ve tried to reproduce the issue you’ve mentioned. It is working as expected.
Could you elaborate a bit more on the exact steps you are doing when you see the problem? If you could also attach a small demo movie, that’ll be even more helpful. Thanks,

Cross reference page number not appearing
While attempting to populate page numbers as cross references the leading text shows up, but the area where the number itself should be appears as a narrow blue box with a pound sterling icon beside it. An attempt to create a new document to test and only importing a couple of elements has cross references crash the program as soon as they are created and applied.

Certain overrides on Objects Styles do not hold when synchronizing Book
Overrides on Objects Styles when synchronizing.
Object styles: I have all the overrides (that I tested, such as background color, type of stroke) holding, BUT the XY coordinate. (position of the object on the page)
When I hit sync, all the overrides hold, including the size of the object (which is in the same Style menu), but not the Position. This means all the objects with the Style on it jump to their default position, resulting in a bad mess.
My imperfect solution is to remove the XY position from the Object Styles — I want to be able to…

ID attempts to rewrite the book file instead of saving it
When I finish working on the chapters of my book and close everything, while closing the book file ID asks me whether I am sure that I want to rewrite the book file. I am only asking to save the file, not to overwrite it. This happens all the time, on different computers and versions of the app.

Saving BOOK file (.indb) acts as SAVE AS
Adobe InDesign v16.1 (12 Feb 2021 release)
Windows 10This bug has appeared again, after disappearing for a couple of versions. But it was in a previous version a few months ago.
When the Book properties panel is open, I make changes to my Book file (.indb) and then close the Book panel or select "Save" from the panel menu. It asks me do I want to save.
Yes, I want to save... but the dialog box is acting like a Save As... It's asking me for a file name, then asking me to overwrite the existing file, instead of…

Index sorting in Book-document in Danish/Norwegian
I'm using InDesign version 16.0. There is a problem with sorting alphabetically when using Danish/Norwegian with Book-function. This only happens from the second letter and on.
The first letters in words sort correctly.
Here's an example for the letter Ø, which should sort after Z and Æ:
‘Tørres’ is sorted before ‘Torstein’ (which means ø is here sorted under o). This only happens when sorting an index from two or more documents linked with the Book-function.

Images Blurry when PDFing from Book
I'm working with catalog documents in an .indb file and when PDFing from the book, without any other files open, all of the images come out looking like they are unlinked.
Images are all high resolution and linked in their individual files
I am using press quality/X1A presets with no compression set
Preflight shows no errorsThe only way to get clear images is to have every single INDD from the book open and THEN make the PDF, which, to me, defeats the purpose of the book functionality.
I don't remember this being an issue in earlier versions but i…

book fails to synchronize after chapter-file edit
Win10/64-Pro, InDesign 16.0.1/64
A book with 53 chapters fails to detect edited chapters when re-synching.
This problem did not occur with other recent updates of InDesign. Normally, when a chapter-file has been edited, a yellow bullet appears next to the filename in the Book chapter list. This isn't happening, because the files are not being detected as edited. Perhaps the book feature's metadata was corrupted by the update from 16.0.0 to 16.0.1?
When I rebuild the book, even after full re-synch and renumber operations, chapters whose files have just been edited are not updated.
The only way I can get…

ZWJ removed from text variable or TOC "Title"
Currently using InDesign CC 2021 [ same issue in previous version/s]
I am working on a SINHALA document and has running headers based on paragraph styles. The ZWJ in the "p-style text" gets omitted in the running header output:

Paragraph style when grouped with an object loses link on ePub export
A TOC for image captions that are grouped with their images can be created in ID, but when the document is exported to ePub, the TOC links are non-functional. This is true also for cross-references linked to the caption style. They function properly in the document (were one to move the grouped image, the page reference would update), but the links are non-functional when the document is exported to ePub.

InDesign book has .INDD file extension
I noticed that in v. 15.1.2 an InDesign "book" file no longer has the .INDB extension, but is now an .INDD. If that is intentional, Adobe needs to update the User Guide at https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/user-guide.html/indesign/using/creating-book-files.ug.html
1 voteThe issue is not reproducible. InDesign Book has .indb extension.

Adding "Current Page" marker to TOC targeted paragraph doesn't use page numbering format
InDesign 15.1.2
Using "Current Page" in text that will be used for the TOC ignores page numbering. If I start a section on page 5, the TOC shows page 1 even though the "Current Page" on the specified page is correct.1 vote
