1. [ID-4273319] InDesign 2026 shows Damaged document when opening previous version documents from Synology NAS

   InDesign 2026 says that my documents are damaged.
   All documents that are on my Synology NAS. Connected via SMB3.
   (InDesign 2025 works fine.)

   If I quit and restart InDesign 2026 - I can open one file once. Alla files after that is "damaged".
   New file created with InDesign 2026 and saved on NAS works.
   Looks like the issue is with documents from previous version that opens as "converted".
   Only happens on NAS. Not on local files.

   Workaround: Copy indd file to your local drive, open, save and upload back to its original location

2. Opens in old version after the latest automatic upgrade

   When I double click on an InDesign file in a folder, why are my files trying to open in an older version of InDesign (2025), when I have the latest version installed? It wasn't happening before the latest version of InDesign 2026 was updated today, and I can't work out how to stop it happening in future, so that any file I click on opens in the latest version of InDesign, not an old one. I have specified that any *.indd file should open in the latest version, but that doesn't resolve the problem.

3. Pages invisible

   Pages are not visible. This started after Mac OS upgrade to 26.3 (25D125). I have to shut down InDesign to make pages visible, then if I zoom in or oiut pages disappear.

4. Moving objects from one layer to another one

   I group some objects, move them from layer 1 to layer 2. I cut them out to set it on the master and ungroup them. They jump back to layer 1.

5. Automatic page number chapters don't work

   I have an issue that I believe is common, and looks like a bug in InDesign. But automatic page numbering over chapters in a book doesn't work. I've tried all tips and tricks, until I found out that it is already logged by more people as a bug in the program. I just wonder if Adobe can fix this problem on short notice, as it appears to be there already for quite a while.
   What appears to be the problem is that the next document page numbering just looks at the page range of the previous one, and page ranges reflect only the number of pages in the chapters. They do not reflect any page numbering.

   I have an issue that I believe is common, and looks like a bug in InDesign. But automatic page numbering over chapters in a book doesn't work. 6. Applying Parent Pages

   I would like to suggest a feature that allows parent pages to be applied to even/odd number pages or by multiples of a number, rather than manually typing which pages to apply the parents. It is time consuming to do this for PDFs with a lot of pages. For example, I proof spiral bound books and would like to show where the holes will punch, but if the book is 2-sided, I need the holes to alternate throughout the pages.

7. Cannot place text in columns or flow text

   I try to place my manuscript from a Google doc and tried Word doc, but it does not put the text in the columns or flow it. It has created more pages but it put the text only at left pages or not at all. I DO WANT the text like in my A-master with two columns to flow in these columns. The shift-click does not work. I do not get a snake arrow... The settings for flow text is on. I have chosen primary text frames...I am a newby but I can´t get any support.

8. items on parent page moving

   Version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy or InDesign Server: 20.5 x64 on Windows 10
   Steps to reproduce the issues: Right click in the pages panel, select "Insert Pages," and select one of three parent pages.
   
   Expected result: Primary text frame should be in the same location on the newly created page as it is on the parent page.
   Actual result: Primary text frame is in a different location on the newly created page. If I reapply the parent page to that newly created page, the text frame moves to the correct location. (I have an object style applied to the primary text frame).

9. When opening a new file, I cannot enter custom width and height numbers.

   I'm using Windows 11, version 25H2, and InDesign version 21.0.2.
   I find it very strange and inconvenient that, while I can enter custom width and height in Adobe Illustrator (version 30.0), I can't do so in InDesign.
   My keyboard is working fine.

10. Section is pre-coded/hard-coded for all the pages in the document

    I'm trying to modify the Section setting for pages in my document, but it looks like all the pages are already pre/hard-coded with the checkbox "Start section" On. As you can see in the attached screenshot, the box is already pre-checked, however, you don't see the Arrow mark above the page that indicates that a new section begins. This looks like not just a cosmetic problem, but also functional, because I cannot really divide the document into separate sections. As a result, just as an example, I cannot start the Footnotes from the begining for every section. The Footnotes are all set to begin every page.

11. linking text blocks error

    I created several related blocks on a master page. The blocks don't auto-continue; they're not master blocks. I then initialize them and filled them with text. Then I group them with other elements. Then I no longer needed them, so I tried deleting the blocks. But InDesign wouldn't allow it, as it thought I needed to add pages. I deleted the entire contents of the text blocks. But InDesign still tried to add the page, even though there was no content in the blocks. The last block in the chain link always had a continuation icon, but in reality this block did not have a subsequent block.The block-by-block connection ended up going nowhere. After ungrouping, I started deleting the blocks one by one, and each time the last one in the chain ended up with a connection that led nowhere.

12. incorrect work with layers

    I have 2 layers in the template. On the first - various elements, which does not matter, on the second (top) - a group of text blocks. I put a lock on layer 1, remove the lock from layer #2 and ungroup the group of objects. They all jump from layer #2 to layer #1 and immediately become inaccessible, because that layer is locked!

    Bug when setting an even number for the start page number when creating a new document

    1. Version of Adobe InDesign
       CC2025 (ver. 20.0) JP

    2. Steps to reproduce the issues
       Set any even number for the start page number on the Create New Document screen.

    3. Expected result
       An even page number will be displayed in Current Page Number as set.

    4. Actual resul
       The value set in the New Document screen will not be reflected, and “Current Page Number” will display “1”.

    As shown in the attached figure, when “Current Page Number” is inserted into a new document with the starting page number set to an even number, the document starts with “1”.
    (As long as the number set in the new document creation screen is an even number, any value will not be reflected and will become “1”).

    This phenomenon can be recovered by temporarily setting a different value in “Number & Section Option”.
    However, for users who are not aware of this behavior, it is sure to cause great confusion.
    It can also cause significant time loss in finding a solution.
    We have not been able to verify whether this bug is specific to the Japanese version, but we recognize that it is a very serious bug.
    We sincerely hope that the development team will fix it as soon as possible.

14. Moving Pages calls for use of Absolute Page Number

    1. InDesign 21.0.1 x64 (on Windows 11)
    2. I want to move a page from a document where I have changed the Numbering & Section Options so that the document includes multiple pages with the same page number. I open the document that includes the page I want to move, and open the document which will receive that page. I select a page in the pages panel, right click, and select "Move Page." The Move Pages dialog box appears, and I select the document and location where I want the page to be moved and click OK.
    3. The highlighted page will be copied to the correct location in the destination document.
    4. Instead, I receive an error message asking me to identify the correct page using the absolute page number. In earlier versions of InDesign, if I tried to use the Move Pages dialog box by simply typing in a page number, it would ask me to define the page using the absolute page number, but as long as I had highlighted the page I wanted to move and then activated the Move Page function, InDesign would automatically identify the page I wanted to move without asking me to define the absolute page number.

15. Alert is shown on opening documents in InDesign(v19.4.0.63) - "This file is already open by another user or another application."

    After updating InDesign to V19.4, I'm now locked out of many of my previous design files. I'm receiving the error, "This file is already open by another user or another application. This file may be stored on a network server and cannot be opened until the other user closes it."

    I reinstalled V19.3 and can now access these old files but I would prefer to use the most up to date version if possible. happy to provide a sample if needed.

16. Pasteboard issues

    Pasting things sometimes changes the size of the pasteboard drastically. Pasteboard margins changes to 10 mm and 10 mm when I paste into the document and it only happens on one page, even if I have multiple pages in the document. This is happening since I updated Indesign from 2025 to 2026 on Windows 11. This causes me to fix the pasteboard size many times throughout the day over and over again.

17. Printing doubled sided without computer settings being changed

    Mac computer using InDesign 2024 version 19.5.5 has select documents print double sided when single sided is preferred. Computer settings for single sided printing was check and was set for single sided. Printer was serviced to make sure it was not a driver issue and driver was up to date and printing correctly on other jobs.

18. Duplicate files opening from the Book utility

    InDesign CC2025 v20.5 / Mac Sequoia 15.6

    Opened all the documents from the Book utility then using the Book utility to navigate between them. Unlike previous versions, the CC2025 version is opening duplicates of the document instead of navigating to the one that is already open.

    I checked the same file in the older version of InDesign, CC2024. It worked correctly.

    I have been using InDesign for 17 years and have always opened or navigating to the documents from within the book utility. This is the first time in all these years that I've had this issue. I didn't realize this at first. You don't necessarily see it happening. But when I was closing the individual documents, I noticed that I had 4 times the number of documents open than I should have.

    Note: My files are on my laptop, not the network. And I am the only person working on them.

    Consulted the internet. It stated the following:
    This behavior of opening duplicates or files as read-only when working with InDesign book files, particularly in collaborative settings, has been reported as a bug in recent InDesign versions, including CC 2025.

    Here's a breakdown of the issue and potential workarounds:
    The problem
    InDesign book files are designed for collaborative work, allowing multiple users to access and edit different documents within the book. The software is supposed to show a lock icon next to a file if it's already open by another user, preventing others from opening it and making it read-only for them.

    However, in versions like InDesign CC 2025 (and potentially 19.4), this functionality is reportedly broken. The software allows multiple users to open and save changes to the same file simultaneously, leading to the creation of duplicate files.
    This issue also manifests as files opening as "unsaved" specifically when launched from the Book panel, even though they open correctly from other locations, according to the Adobe Community.

19. History panel logs issues

    The history panel does not allow some actions to be undone. One is the act of stepping back several steps. As long as no new actions are done, you can step forward again, but as soon as you complete a new action, the inbetween steps disappear. The undo/redo history is also cleared; only new actions completed after that point can be undone. This is a problem because is makes it impossible to test various options and then quickly return to the original option, as I have often done in the past. Instead, the desired option must be set up again from scratch. (tested in v. 20.1, but also caused issues in older versions)

    • Actions logged appear to update/condense/disappear when switching to and from the Type tool. For example, if I create a text frame, enter some text, and then apply a stroke, the “Create text frame” option is no longer visible in the history panel, nor can it be undone with undo. If I create a 2nd text frame, all the previous steps for the first text frame disappear. Because “open” remains as the first action, it appears as if no other new actions were completed, but this is entirely false. Losing the ability to undo one’s actions is a serious hindrance. Undo history should not be cleared until the document is closed. I have also noticed there is sometimes a significant lag when switching to and from the text tool, and I suspect it has something to do with this. (tested in v. 20.1, did not notice before)

    • Many actions logged are too vague to identify, especially when multiple instances of the same action occur. It would be ideal if, instead of “Typing,” one would see “Typing 123…” Link updates could include a right click option to jump to the affected link. Alternately, selecting a step could select the affected text or object, or a page number could be made visible in the panel. It would also be helpful to save a thumbnail at certain points. (in all versions I have used, current version is 20.1)

    The history panel does not allow some actions to be undone. One is the act of stepping back several steps. As long as no new actions are done, you can step forward again, but as soon as you complete a new action, the inbetween steps disappear. The undo/redo history is also cleared; only new actions completed after that point can be undone. This is a problem because is makes it impossible to test various options and then quickly return to the original option, as I have often done in the past. 20. Alternate Layouts lost, names missing and out of order

    I've had a reoccuring issue of InDesign documents with multiple alternate layouts 'losing' their layout names and placements.

    I've attached a screenshot of what my alternate layouts should look like, and then again what they now look like.
    InDesign no longer sees it as an alternate layout.

    This seems to happen some time after working in a file, or re-opening a file.
    No updates have been made to InDesign between closing and re-opening these files.

    I'm on MacOS Sequoia 15.6
    Adobe InDesign 20.5
