Documents should open with spreads centered
When I open a document with two-page spreads, unless the zoom level is set to "fit in window," the document opens with the spreads off-center, usually to the left and down off the bottom edge. Then I have to manually drag them into place, or else choose "fit in window" and then size them down to whatever zoom level I'm working at. This is incredibly frustrating when I'm working on a book with many chapters which are frequently opened and closed. And contrary to some reports, InDesign doesn't "remember" the position when the file is next opened, unless that zoom…

Use layout name and custom text for export separate PDFs
Would love to see the ability to type custom text in the suffix for export separate PDF. Also, would like to see the ability to add the layout name from the flyout menu, currently it's only "incremental numbers," "page number" and "page size."

Stop making new folders when I save individual pages to PDFs.
For my magazine, I export multiple files (over 15) to the same name+page number with the page number being the only difference. The new export feature keeps making a subset folder with the same name which screws up copying the files to the first folder. I have to rename the subset folder, copy the files to the original folder and delete the subset folder. I prefer it not to make a folder at all.

Export a specific color separation directly to PDF without having to print to file first.
Let's say you have a file that's CMYK plus one spot color (let's say Pantone 123). You want to create a PDF file for print that is only the separation of the Pantone 123 spot color. What I have to do now is create the color separation first by printing to file, then distill the resulting .ps file.
Can there be a way to directly export the color separation by using Export to Print PDF?
Maybe there is a way to do this already, but I have not been able to find any info online on how to do this.…

Endnotes used to be simpler
The new endnote feature is a disaster. Please allow discrete numbering for each chapter. I can't seem to be able to restart each chapter at superscipt 1. I am creating a 400-page book that has to be in sections for editing purposes. Not only am I renumbering superscripts and then endnotes for each chapter, but who knows what will happen when I assemble the whole thing with endnotes at the end. Preliminary testing with a few chapters is somewhat comforting, but I remain sceptical.

file / open recent (preview small thumbnail)
Hi - I would find it really useful if there was a feature - file / open recent (preview small thumbnail) . Sometimes the file name itself isn't enough, in particular if you are working on lots of files quickly. if there was a thumbnail at file/open recent it would help to locate the particular file better.
love indesign - thank you.

Proper Relative Path Manager for Links
Allow us the ability to specify relative paths to linked assets to aid in duplication of jobs and production work.
A copied file will remember all static addresses to it's previous location.
In a scenario of using templates to complete jobs where assets get replaced and flipped, you lose time linking assets to the new address when the copied ID file should be able to look within it's new HOME FOLDER, and attempt to refresh all links.
Exporting from said file is also problematic, as the destination folder is still the "original location" and not the new file location of…

Don't open menu after pressing Alt for zoom
Pressing Alt on Windows brings focus to the top menu and pressing a following letter is interpreted as an access key, opening a menu. This in itself is good for accessibility and productivity.
However, in InDesign Alt is also pressed to zoom with the scroll view. I very often press W to toggle preview mode and very, very often press Alt to zoom. Several times an hour the Window menu flies open due to me pressing W after Alt has been pressed.
I suggest scrolling should move focus away from the top menu. This allows you to still use Alt…

Individual arrowheads like in Illustrator
In Illustrator it is possible to create individual arrowheads (although a little bit more complicated as I'd like to but possible).
In InDesign somehow I can't.
I always have to use a certain kind of arrow which I'd love to be able to add to the "library or choice of arrowheads".Here’s a video I found regarding arrowheads in Illustrator:

Remove the maximum cell height in tables
I often use tables in more technical posters as a frame for graphics with caption.
I experienced that a cell height of about 220 mm is the maximum for tables.
If you have larger graphics this is not enough.7 votes -
Please allow for more than 1 inch of Offset for Printer's Marks when exporting PDFs
Some vendors require more than 1" of bleed, especially on larger format layouts.
Currently have to build layouts at reduced size to accomplish this.7 votes -

More powerful use of Conditional Text
Conditional text is a great tool, but limited. It could be used to apply formatting to text that would survive the "clear overrides" of para or char styles.
I can see that conditional formatting that changed the text itself could be difficult to implement (such as font size, applying italics, small caps, no break, no hyphenation...) but if it could do that, it could prove very handy to giving a persistent formatting "style" that would not be affected by clearing overrides.
Also: Sometimes highlighting or underlining is not appropriate. I'd like a flag in the margin that marks the beginning…

InDesign Templates and Style updates
I start by making an InDesign template and incorporating all the object and paragraph styles I think I'll need. Then from my template I create my first document. However, as I proceed with actual content on that document I find I want to modify some styles, add new ones, etc.
There does not seem to be a way to have my template updated automatically with those style changes/additions. This would be a great help because my template is no longer usable as an "old version". So, I have to save my new document onto and replace that older template (without…

Consistent arrowhead styles
It would be helpful to have the same arrowhead options available for InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Sometimes I need to quickly create a legend in InDesign to match a diagram create in Illustrator, but the options for arrowhead styles are limited/different.

Remove guides, select similar objects on whole document
Need to remove guides and select (edit) similar objects, like container boxes, not only on a spread but on the whole document.

Hyperlink through ENTIRE book.
Hyperlink pages throughout an entire book. You can only link on the current pages of a document and not the book - I've a 100 page + document and I've to combine it into one doc - madness!
