Mixed orientation printing within the same document
Please consider implementing mixed orientation (auto orientation) with printing so it saves people time from having to export to PDF first then print as it is only possible through Acrobat at the moment.

Additional Conditional text options
I do a lot of publishing work, and one of the banes in the day of a Publishing Designer, is changing spines, it would be great is there was a conditional text option that enabled me to drag a box to the spine width and for that box to report it's width!
In an ideal world if it could also report the height so we can show the height and width of a book, it would be fabulous!5 votes -
Native language hyphenation
My German client would love if their words broke naturally not at random bits of words, similar to how shows the proper place for word breaks: www.silbentrennung24.de

Bleed on different size page documents
Allow for documents with different size pages the ability to choose which page has bleed. For example, when creating a document that has a card and envelope in it, choose the card page to have bleed/crop marks and remove bleed/crop marks from the envelope.

A pdf setting that allows me to Set the "opening view" properies of a pdf from indesign
Allow setting of the PDF "opening view" properties on creation instead of after creation.
When I send a proof, I want my customers to see the pages panel, and view the files at a specific size and layout - Doing this has saved thousands of cock-ups - unfortunately it has cost me hundreds of hours doing the same thing over and over.5 votesThis feature already exists in InDesign, or are there some enhancements over and above what already exists that you are requesting here.
Thanks,

Increase Search toolbar for link
Please improve the SEARCH BOX for the link window.
When I need to relink a missing object, the window that open have a very small search box. It should be more big, maybe twice the actual size. Thanks5 votes -
Integrate Optical Margin Alignment into Paragraph tab
Currently, the Story tab is a standalone tab, offering only one checkbox: the Optical Margin Alignment option. This functionality, in my opinion, is closely related to paragraph adjustments, such as paragraph alignment within text boxes. Given its nature, it seems more intuitive and efficient to integrate Optical Margin Alignment within the Paragraph tab or the main text formatting panel.
Adding the Story tab to my workspace alongside essential tabs like Character, Paragraph, and various styles consumes more horizontal screen space than necessary. Once positioned next to other panels, the tab's label, "Story," becomes difficult to read due to the limited space.
By integrating Optical Margin Alignment into a more appropriate existing tab, users could enjoy a streamlined and space-efficient workspace.

Make overset text + icon stand out better
Maybe it is just me grappling with this, but I find it extremely hard to see the overset text ‘+’ in the bottom right of the text frames. Sure, I can go to preflight panel and resolve everything from there, but I often fix many other things too as I go and work quite visually. If the box had a red fill and the + was white, it would stand out better. Currently I have to zoom way out to get an idea of where they are.

A preference option to skip all tours
Tour popups about History Panel and Hide Spreads fonction appears about once a day. This seems like a small detail but no, it is annoying. Thank you.

Save and Archive Comments in Share for Review
Ability to save the comments and replies made in Share for Review as a PDF or excel file. Very similar to how you would be able to save a PDF in acrobat with comments imbedded.

InDesign Review Panel should NOT switch the filter to 'Resolved' when editing text with older resolved comments
I am often working on documents with multiple review sessions. The problem that occurs since the latest updates of InDesign is that as soon as I put the cursor in a piece of text which previously had a comment attached to it which is resolved, all resolved comments pop up in the comments panel and I cannot see the current comments: all comments are immediately filtered to 'resolved'. Of course I can switch off the filter for resolved comments again, but it switches back again to 'resolved comments' as soon as I start working on the text. This is driving me nuts, because it is not only annoying, it becomes very difficult to work on the unresolved comments and takes up a lot of time. As a work around I now have to open the online document with the current unresolved comments to track down what actually still needs to be resolved. Apparently this is 'as designed', but this is driving designers crazy. Please help!
More details and screen recordings can be found in this discussion on the Adobe Community: https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/indesign-review-panel-automatically-filters-to-resolved-comments-when-editing-text/td-p/14619901I am often working on documents with multiple review sessions. Stop requiring a resave of documents in new InDesign versions
I would love it if the Adobe team would figure out a way to have new versions of InDeisgn not require a resave of previously created documents. This is probably THE most annoying feature of using this software. It is not user friendly when you have developed a working method on updating documents month to month, only to be prompted to save the file before any other processes can be performed. I can't tell you how many documents I have "Saved" to my desktop when I thought I was exporting them to PDF. Please fix. Annoying!!

Stop exporting <Sect> tags
Please make InDesign stop exporting <Sect> tags for every text frame. We don't need these tags, and they interfere with accessibility.
We need more control over how our content exports to the tag tree. We only need to see our content under the articles <Art> tag.
We have to remove every single <Sect> tag to make our PDFs truly accessible.

Allow data merge placeholders to be used directly in QR Code URL & Text
Data merge placeholders like <<Sample URL>> do not work when used in QR Codes.
That would be cleaner and easier to use than the current data merge which requires the syntax described on https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/data-merge.html
The Edit QR Code dialog should be improved to support these placeholder values.

Insert Kashida option in Character Style
In Indesing UI there is an option to Insert Kashida width options: "None", "Short", "Medium", "Long" and "Stylistic" but these options are not there in Character style creation window.
Please include this option in Character Style creation window so that it can be easier to apply type of kashida as required by the user.

measure and determine the height of a letter in millimeters or centimeters
Add a feature to InDesign that will allow you to measure and determine the height of a letter in millimeters or centimeters. I work in a studio that deals with environmental design and signage, and we constantly need to know the height of the characters in millimeters during work.
Today, the solution to the problem is to create a rectangle the same size as the size of the characters and see the size of the rectangle in millimeters, then adjust the size of the characters according to the rectangle, until it roughly fits. This is a really big problem and solving it will make our lives unbelievably easier and allow us to do things precisely. Restore the 2022 version of Word Document Import Options
In the 2022 update there was a brilliant change to the way you could specify how Paragraph Styles and Character Styles from Word could be treated.
It allowed you to choose the key styles to focus on, apply your own InDesign Style to those, then apply an overriding single InD style to everything else by specifying "Any" in the hierarchy. This allowed you to get rid of swathes of junk styles you'd otherwise inherit from a messy Word file, reliably, and in one go.
Newer versions seem to have reverted to the old Text Import Options, where you must specify 'No Paragraph Style' for every single one of those scrappy, unneeded, hangover styles.
Can we have the nice, simple, effective Import Options back please?
