Fast book export to PDF
When you have a book with a lot of files inside (more than 100), the export to PDF takes a lot of time. The mouse stucks and it ist not possible to work effectively.
Every day we are working multiple times with the book funktion.
A new PDF Export will be very nice and very very helpful.8 votes -
Make it easier to define bullet symbols
It would be nice to be able to either utilize a selected Glyph as a bullet symbol or at least search for a symbol within a font via UNICODE like you can in the Glyphs toolbox.

Adopt the latest PDF 2.0 specification
Flash-based PDF interactive output from InDesign is, to be kind, rather problematic. Flash-based interactivity is problematic with mobile-based PDF readers, including Adobe Reader on the iOS and Android platforms.
Please do what you can to adopt the PDF 2.0 standard promptly. Like a lot of other users working with interactive features within PDFs, I'm hopeful that by creating conforming documents, rather than hoping for conforming PDF writer and reader applications with widely varying degrees of success, would help InDesign take advantage of intrinsic security and interactive capabilities of the PDF 2.0 specification.

datamerge control layer visibility and ability to control more via data
would be cool if we could select the ID-layers-visibility via datamerge. (like Photoshop can do since CS1)
For example:data1: layer1 is visible, layer 2 is invisible
data2: layer2 is visible, layer 1 is invisible
etc.AND: it would be great to select objectstyles via datamerge. like XMPie can do.
But XMPie is far much too expensive for small daily business.

Crops Marks should automatically offset the same distance as the bleed
I does not make any sense that the default offset for crop marks is less than .125" There isn't a finishing trim method that can use crop marks closer than that. The default 0.0833 in setting is useless for production. It only causes problems and renders the bleed virtually useless.
I work in grand format print and the problem is far worse. We require .5" or 2" bleed consistently for gallery wraps, museum exhibits etc. We constantly get pdfs from clients where the bleed is 2" but the crop marks are only 0.0833" away from the page size. This renders all the bleed useless. Bleed is only useful up to the crop mark.
And yes, there is a printer mark Fixup in Acrobat. But after the latest indesign update, that Fixup no longer functions the way it used to. Previously any crop marks outside the page size would be removed. Now, if the crop mark is outside the page but in the bleed it is not removed. Even if it is touching the bleed it is not removed.
Most designers just use the default settings because they know little about production. If the crop marks automatically offset the same distance as the bleed setting, it would be a tremendous help to print producers.

Importing .fdf files for Importing PDF Comments
Thanks for your implementation of Importing PDF comments, this is definitely a game changer and the future of Print Production in the industry. One question I have is why are we unable to import the .fdf file with the comments from our PDFs straight into InDesign? When working on old PDFs made in 2018 or older we then have to make a new PDF in 2019 and apply those comments to that PDF and it feels like unnecessary hassle. Could the .fdf file created when exporting the comments in Acrobat just not be imported straight into InDesign instead?

Offset path
iD : Fr : Offset path
I found myself stuck by wanting to make a simple offset path inside inDesign. This seems to HAVE to be DONE in Illustrator.
Bad thing about that is that if I have to go back and forth between both, I’ll have to place it correctly, when it should be a simple value in any unit to enter. Some have explored the need for that as a script :

Possibility to remap ALT Mouse Wheel for ZOOM
I do not find possibility to change ALT Mouse Wheel (for zooming). I prefer just Mouse Wheel to zoom (without ALT).
Or at least to get rid of ALT, because it can be overtaken by OS for other tasks (in my case).8 votes -

Use data merge field to export filename
I have created 3 different invitations with a personalized company name on it, coming from excel with data merge. And when I want to export it as .jpg, it is not possible to export : invitationVIP<<company>>.jpg
now I have a list of "numbers" which i have to browse on which company I have to send my vip voucher to, instead of using the explorer search to find the company name that I need.
Conclusion : I need a way to export JPG (and maybe PDF) files using the data merge feature.

Search for missing links
When links are broken on our shared server, I manually need to type the name of the link to begin a search for it. Some file names are very complicated. It would be nice if the link name was already written in the input field or even better a button in the links panel that searches for the link and replaces it. Most often the link has just changed place on the server but has the same name.

Add more support for Right-to-Left Languages
Having tabs work for the right-to-left languages and an easy toggle for right-to-left so that the whole program doesn't have to be reinstalled.

merge text frames
When copying data from other inDesign files into a new InDesign file, I always end up with multiple text frames, most of them empty, because it creates a new text frame every time, stacked on top of the empty one that was already there. It's very frustrating and has been a talked-about issue for a while (based on my Google searches.) Please, add a Merge Text Frames option to the menu. None of the scripts I've used have worked. It's torturous. As an author, I am constantly editing my text and it's frustrating to realize that adjusting a master page layout won't work because your text is in a random frame that was imported. I either have to manually adjust the text box on each page (400 pages) or export everything to Word and start a new InDesign file. Both options take a really long time. Please. So much please.

Allow Master Pages to be Marked so that Page Numbering Ignores Them
Sometimes my documents have pages that don't count as pages when it comes to page numbering but I can't set exceptions to Master Pages so that they are not included.
I can restart the numbering manually using exiting tools, but the numbers are rendered incorrect if any pages are moved. Having the ability to mark a Master Page as "don't include this page for numbering purposes" would be very useful.

Import files from Apple pages
In last time I got more and more Apple-pages-files as text-source. It would be great if you could import them without detours through other file formats.

Overscroll Feature
It would be so nice to be able to enable overscroll in Indesign like you can in Photoshop. It feels so claustrophobic not being able to overscroll.

Take into account alternate layouts when generating / updating tables of contents
Create a (say) 20-page A4 document with a table of contents (sections, subsections and whatever).
Then create an alternate layout of this document, for an A5 paper size. This should make the A5 version about 40 pages long.We can create and update the table of contents for the A4 layout, but we cannot specify a 2nd ToC for the A5 layout, that takes into account the page numbers, as they are adjusted in the alternate layout(s). If we link the A4 ToC to the A5 layout, its contents will display the pagination of the A4 version.
In my current case, my master layout is A5 landscape with extra blank pages for correct content siding, while my alternate layout is ePub without these blank pages. While in ePub pages don't matter, I would like to have a browsable (tappable) index of sections at the beginning of the document.
In other cases, I am creating A4 and A5 versions of the same content. I would like to be able to have their respective ToC show the correct page numbers for each layout. Right now I have not found a way to do this, other than creating and updating all ToC manually for each alternate layout.
