add Latin dictionary
Include a Latin dictionary in InDesign's default dictionary. It would be nice not to have to tell InDesign to ignore every instance of various scientific terms, or Latin mottos, etc.

Add a vertical type tool.
I'm a sign designer. I use AI and ID in tandem to output mass amounts of signs with variable copy (using data merge feature); such as unit IDs, where the numerals change. Sometimes the design of these include vertical type.
Not having a vertical type tool is crippling to my workflow, as I have to fumble my way through the type on a path option (which often doesn't space consistently, or do it manually.

Master Page variables
Let's say you have a master page that your entire document uses. The document has several sections and is colour coded. The only difference between each section is a coloured band. It would be amazing if there was a way to set a variable to the section which would change the colour of that bar. Presently the only way to do this is to make several master pages and change the bar in each one.

Pair Kerning
There are many occasions where a specific pair of letters do not kern properly, such as ". I would like to be able to select the pair of letters from a particular font that I want kerned throughout an InDesign document, and have them automatically kerned. I don't want to have to apply a style to each instance, or find and replace each instance.

Request of to Index "Index entry", "page reference" and "Yomi" CSV export Feature.(【要望】索引の「項目」「ページ番号」「読み」のCSV書き出し)
I hope to Index "Index entry", "page reference" and "Yomi" CSV export Feature.
Currently, the Japanese version does not sort as expected and the indexing function is difficult to use.
It would also reduce the difficulty of indexing in multi-person operations.
9 votes -
Paragraph shading (and borders) should be able to clip/inset based on the text box
Paragraph shading extends outside of the text box. This is especially annoying when shaded text spans over multiple pages (see screenshot: AutoShading.png). It would be great if it could automatically clip and inset based on the text box—see screenshot: HowItShouldLook.png. The current solutions I can think of are really messy and easily negated.

Preserve PDF export settings for document only
PDF export settings are actually preserved application wide. When exporting different documents InDesign remembers the settings and uses them for the next document. If you have to export only one page of one document you will export only one page of the next document (if that page exists).
InDesign should be able to store the export settings in the document if the user wishes to.9 votes -
Auto Layout of text frames (ala Figma auto layout)
Currently InDesigns' text frame fitting options are really powerful... but it would be amazing to pinch some of Figma's functionality, to supercharge them for dynamic layouts.
For instance, we often like to set up text variables on a master page, and have a layout which dynamically adjusts. Currently, we can use workarounds like whitespace to set spacing between elements, so that as the content shrinks & expands nothing overflows, and the spacing between these elements remains consistent. It's a limited approach, but better than nothing. You could take this further by having items dynamically align to layout grids (like baseline-grid alignment) etc — lots of possibilities!
Figma has a feature called auto layout, which informs this idea. The 'spacing between items' specifically is relevant to this. https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040451373-Create-dynamic-designs-with-auto-layout

The option to remember FULL pdf export settings on a document by document basis
The changes that resulted in the previous similar request being 'closed:fixed' were only to remember the TYPE of file Indesign previously exported it as. Which is great, but we need an option for the FULL pdf export settings to be remembered. We need to be able to have documents remember all previous export settings as otherwise this very complex and problematic to communicate to others if working as a team. Or if you are exporting something again after a long while and no longer have the settings noted. Please help!

Font Menu Management
Need a way for end-users to control which fonts appear in the font menu. We don't need, or want, all the Mac OS system fonts to appear in our InDesign font menu, but there is currently no way to remove them from the list. While we can sort by Favorites, this would mean we'd need to go through and mark all our corporate fonts as Favorites in order to only display them. With Apple no longer allowing removal of System fonts, application font menus are getting totally out of control. Allowing control of what is displayed from within the application seems to be the only way to work around this

Implementing "Grep styles" like a "Character style"
Grep styles deserve to be used like any existing style.
This means:
1 - Having a panel where we can create/modify/ delete any grep style (similar use as the Character style panel)2 - Having the Paraph.style/Grep styles section revamped.
There, a drop down list allows the user to select existing Grep styles (If any)3 - a "+" button allows to add and implement some more Grep styles
This allows to use multiple grep stylesThe added value is to create only once a list of grep style actions. They can then be connected to paragraph styles easily.
This need is coming from several issues that I'm am facing today:
Paragraph styles that are already based on a specific paraph.style cannot be based on another paragraph style where the Grep style could be. Therefore, the grep styles actions have to be written down on all of them. (waste of productivity)
Fonts almost never have all the bold/ italic/etc. properties. Therefore, depending on the font, we need to adjust the target of the modification, for the same words. Being able to duplicate/ modify a Grep style would be a huge save of time.

Add track changes also to foot notes
If you use track changes its a problem that texts in foot notes aren't tracked.
Some type of documents (like financial documents) need trail of changes. Its even a legal request in some cases. So if you depend on the track changes function its a big problem that foot notes aren't tracked. Used to be the same with tables long time ago but that one is now tracked since many versions back...Seems like other also asked about this.

Ability to pass ownership of Share For Review to another user, or indeed share ownership
It would be really beneficial to be able to move ownership of a Share For Review to another user or indeed be able to have a buddy be the owner as often we move our documents around our workforce.

Icon Localization for Asian Users
I am a Korean user.
The menu and description is well displayed in Korean.
But why does the Japanese Hiragana 'あ' appear on the letter ratio icon and the lettering icon?
Does Chinese users see that icon too?It seems that CJK version is using icons together while localizing.
If Adobe respects each country's culture, I would like to change that icon to suit each country.
(ex: '가' for Korean users)
If that's difficult, I'd like to mark it with the alphabet 'A'.https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign/icon-localization-for-asian-users/m-p/11654932?

Store GREP strings in Library
I often have to use the same long GREP strings in multiple documents and for multiple projects (eg. custom targeting of words and/or characters at the end of a paragraph to avoid orphans). Depending on the context, it can get complicated. I currently have a spreadsheet so I don't have to reformulate every time I need one, but I would like to store them as easily as character or paragraph styles so I can reference them again and again.

Add real Next Page Number / Previous Page Number
At present, Next Page Number and Previous Page Number actually means Next Text Frame Page Number / Previous Text Frame Page Number. It is very confusing. I suggest to add real Next Page Number / Previous Page Number which would add – surprise! – next page number and previous page number to the text.
It would be very helpful, in situations you want to have page numbers only at one page of a spread (10/11, 12–13 etc). At the moment, there is only a stupid and slow workaround with linked text frames, which does not work in every situations.9 votes -
pdf comments
Allow assign shortcuts for working with pdf-comments
Working with corrections via imported pdf-comments could be sped up very much if there would be the possibility to assign following shortcuts:
- copy comment to clipboard
- mark comment as applied (or what it is in english)
- go to next / previous comment

Automatic footnote numbering in a book
Dear Sir, dear Madam,
Please make the numbering of footnotes automatic from chapter to chapter in a book, as for the chapter's first page.
It is very tedious and risky to do it manually, which seems the only option today, even in the last release (16.0).
Thank you.
