  1. Auto-fit column width in tables

Add a feature for tables such as that in Excel (Home > Format > AutoFit Column Width). The "at least" feature for row height is great, but we need something for the width too! A command that resizes the selected column(s) to fit the longest line of text in that column of the table. Bonus: Any leftover space in the table width could be distributed between all columns automatically, or in one chosen column.

  2. Add feature to Buttons and Forms

In the Text Field, if there could be an option for auto scalable type, which would automatically scale while writing in a interactive PDF. This would allow the writer to write without exceeding the set text field, which could later be printed instead of hidden when printed, when the scrollable option is selected. The current options are set, scrollable or set font size. It would create a more dynamic set text field.
Also a prompt description in the text field which disappears when writing.

  3. Live references to images/figures

    1. I need each image to have a caption which begins with "Figure 1: blah blah" and if I move the image, the caption should automatically re-number. I think I have the automatic re-numbering working using paragraph styles, but doing that seems to prohibit the other things I need to do, such as...

    2. I need to have each image coupled with an in-text reference, like. "As seen in Figure 1, blah blah blah." And if I move the image, again, not only would the caption re-number but the in-text reference to it would re-number automatically, too.

    3. Finally, that in-…

  4. Google Photos and Docs Integration

It would be great if you could place photos or text from Google services - Google Photos, Google Docs, Google Drive. InDesign would simply need to integrate the Google APIs for those services, then it would be seamless to import these objects - better yet would be supporting of links, so edits to Docs could be updated in InDesign the same way changed photos show update status of linked photos.

  5. Anchored illustrations

The layout of anchored Illustrations can NOT be moved around freely on the page it is anchored on. If you try to move the graphic around on the page or next page, the text is obscured or destroyed - the text is under the graphic. If you use the "inline" function the result is the same. The ability to move the "anchored" graphic anyway on the current page, page before it or the next page without the text being effected in any way. The TEXT should re-position itself around the image wherever move it.

  6. Add features to draft legal briefs

Legal filings are just complicated, cross-linked books.

Lawyers have to follow court rules when typesetting appellate briefs.
    See e.g., http://www.ca2.uscourts.gov/clerk/case_filing/rules/rules_home.html
    https://www.supremecourt.gov/filingandrules/rules_guidance.aspx

WordPerfect has a few useful features: see "Legal Toolbar" https://www.wordperfect.com/en/product/professional-edition/#features

You should add a feature to create a Table of Authorities (ToA). The ToA lists each authority cited along with every page on which it is cited. The ToA has different sections for different kinds of authorities, e.g., cases, statutes, etc.

The best way would be to have InDesign identify authorities/citations. Most lawyers follow the Bluebook. https://www.legalbluebook.com/default.aspx
Others follow the RedBook or the MaroonBook.

Make selecting, dragging, and dropping …

  7. Automatic hanging indents/"indent to here" for lists

Currently, creating hanging indents for lists requires either manually adding "indent to here" ahead of every list item, or fiddling with the left indent and first line indent options of the list paragraph style until the desired effect is achieved-- a process that must be repeated if the type size changes or for subsequent list levels.

Since hanging indents are what one almost always desires when creating lists, it would be great if this was a checkbox option one could simply turn on when setting up list styles. With the option on, InDesign would automatically indent all text to the…

  8. Ability to set default font (style/size) in Forms

When I use the interactive feature for forms, the default font is always Minion Pro. I would like to be able to change this for any text box I make, rather than having to do it text-box by text box. I understand that if the user does not have the font on their computer, this would be replaced with one they do have.

  9. Please, please, please support Emacs-style key bindings...

...at least for macOS. Virtually all macOS apps, especially those developed by Apple, support Emacs-style key binding that are incredibly useful for text navigation and text selection purposes. As an almost daily use of InDesign—and a 26-year employee of Adobe—I would very much like to see this supported. Most of the commands involve the use of the "control" key, which appears to be unused for InDesign keyboard shortcuts, so this is likely to be a no-brainer.

  10. Please remove the text (GPU Preview) in the name tabs.

They take up needed space if you have several files open. I know I can turn it off if I turn off GPU but would rather not.

  11. 'Fixed width' option for paragraph rules and styles

    Hi There,

There's a long history in the forums for this request; Fixed width and alignment for paragraph rules.

See attached; Need a dropdown option to select 'Fixed width' and then length and alignment options.

Also need this carried over to paragraph styles.

    Cheers

    Ben

  12. Improve hanging punctuation settings

Hanging punctuation can improve the typesetting. But sometimes it creates undesired effects. For instance hanging bullets look terrible. On the contrary, some characters are missing (see https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/37832143-add-hanging-punctuation-for-chevrons)

Please add the option to modify the list of hanging characters and let users define their own value of this effect.

Affinity Publisher is a good example (see attached screenshot): users can define hanging punctuation value in % for any glyph, even for letters, this is very useful for headlines.

And please make the setting part of the Paragraph Style as recommended here: https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/37880509-remove-story-panel-make-optical-alignment-a-parag – the Story panel does not make…

  13. Chrome OS support please!

Would be awesome not to have our team on Chromebooks totally locked out from doing simple text editing on InDesign files.

  14. Allow Images/PSD's to be set to overprint using attributes panel

Allow images/psd's to be set to overprint within indesign like text and fill options in the attributes panel, this will allow for complex printing requirements to be done more easily. for example if you need to overprint and image onto a white ink base that has been set to a spot colour so the printer can print white onto clear vinyl then print a CMYK image on top without the white ink base knocking out.

  15. Non-Linear History and Undos - By page

Much like paste, paste into, paste in place, undos should be able to have some added features. Photoshop has non-linear history, which feels confusing to undo a brush from 10 steps ago. However, InDesign would greatly benefit from current page specific history, undos, searching, text, edits etc.

An example, my workflow for placing graphics and prepping captions in a document, is to do one task at a time page by page. I also use transform again individually to apply things like rotation to existing graphics, or frame fitting if I'm placing a graphic somewhere. When placing a graphic into…

  16. Add a H&J violation property to InDesign Script

It would be nice to be able to read the amount of H&J violation on a given line through the InDesign script.

This would let us work on better ways to trim the text.

  17. Outline all fonts in a merged document.

We are a print company and regularly deal with personalised text within data merge. Sometime we have to use 'create merged document' to alter specific text and often we come across the issue where fonts cannot be embedded when exporting, I know there is a long winded fix for this but it would be great if there was a feature to simply click a button to ouitline all fonts in a merged document instead of having to go through each page, or adding a small transparency and flattening etc.

  19. Add Sticky Notes to Incopy like in Acrobat

The Layout and the the Editors work pretty close together in our company. The ability for the Editors to correct their text in the Layoutview is a nice thing for both... Layout and Editors. But we really miss the "Sticky Note" Feature known from Acrobat. When the Editors try to communicate, that they want changes being applied to the Design, thats not really possible with Incopy right now. For example, the editors would love to click the sticky note tool, so that they could place it right next to a picture and add their notes. For exmample: "make this one…

  20. Make Libraries Panel Drag & Drop When Adding

    Hi There,

I only use libraries for one client but am quickly discovering it's not that intuitive. It's great that libraries now isn't the default but when you need it, why can't you drag everything into it?

    Obvious examples...
    - You can't drag colours
    - You can't drag text styles (paragraph or character)

And regarding text, if you drag a text box, dragging it back should add the textbox with text etc. If you drag a text style onto an existing text box, it should only apply the style etc.

Just let us add anything to the library…
