  1. Keyboard Shortcut for Adopting Paragraph Style Sheets

    1. Using the text tool, click in a paragraph.

    2. Hold Option & Shift, then click a Style Sheet formatted paragraph

    3. The paragraph that had the text tool in it is now formatted to the [Option/Shift] clicked paragraph's Style Sheet.

This is one of the most time saving keyboard shortcuts from Quark Xpress.

This saves countless hours for anyone formatting text, albeit a tri-fold, or a 1,000 page catalog.

PS: If you're going to mention Command/Return to bring up Style Sheets, this is not time saving. The user still has to scroll the curser around to select the Paragraph/Character Style Sheet, removing…

  2. Autmatic High of Textframes and Tabel-Cells in steps/on grid

If a textframe has an automatic high, is dos not fit on the grid. it would be nice, when there would be the option "fit on grid" or/and "in steps of XX mm". The same probelm is in Tabels, when in one cell the text get lmultiline.

  3. A archive/backup save feature

I recently was working on a highly important document. InDesign crashed AT THE SAME TIME as it was in the process of saving the file. I do regular saves, but because of how it crashed I couldn't revert to an earlier saved version of my file. My new workflow is to regularly save my work and I use sequential numbers e.g. filename-v01, filenam- v02. I also sometimes will use save as and create a new file called filename-backup and then I will have to do another save as to revert the document back to filename.indd. What would suit my workflow…

  4. Mimic Text Box

For Example: If you have a list of people and you create a text box for each person that has a number in the text box.

Further in the document you would have a map that also has the numbers showing which person is situated where.

What would be very helpful is to have those 2 numbers (1 and 1, 2 and 2, etc.) be able to auto update the other.

So when someone is removed from the list, the person numbered 10 originally now becomes 9, which also auto updates on the map

  5. Merge mulitple pages together to create one page. Clients design each panel as the same size rather than having a short fold in panel

Would like to be able to combine pages into one page. Clients are sending files (such as a 3 fold brochure) where each panel is the same size, not taking into account that the fold-in panel should be shorter. Seems difficult to make a shorter page as the page seems to be off and its not an easy fix.

  6. Open pages of a pdf file in a single InDesign file

I always face this problem where I need to open a single page of a pdf. file to do amendment. It’s difficulty when my client doesn’t have the working file (indd). I hope adobe is allowing me to open all pages of a pdf. file in a single InDesign.

  7. Native AI support.

Using links within AI to keep source files small is useless if INDD is a part of the workflow because INDD will not place AI files unless PDF compatibility is turned on. Turning on PDF compatibility in AI when saving embeds all links so linking files instead of embedding them makes no difference.

Please make INDD able to place AI files that have not been saved with PDF compatibility turned on.

  8. Condition Sets: Show overrides when the set has a +

In every other panel, when there is a style override, resulting in a + symbol, if you hover over the symbol, it will tell you specifically what the overrides are. For example, a different type size, or font family or leading or something along those lines.

But in the Condition Sets dropdown, all you get is that there are overrides. And you can either clear them or redefine the set. But if I choose to clear the overrides, I have no way of knowing what the result will be.

  9. Restore the page overlay display in the print dialog.

I previous version of InDesign and the initial releases of InDesign 2017, you could see quite clearly what would print on the selected sheet size. In the latest update as of Aug 2017, if I change a sheet from letter to legal that has been printed previously, letter is still selected in the dialog, but due to the preview sheet being legal and cannot see that there is a size mismatch without going through the individual dialogs. For reference, the portion of the document that would not be within the printable region showed as a different shade of grey, whereas…

  10. When you highlight text - then select something else - it would be really cool if the same text was selected when you went back to it

When you highlight a block of text - then select a different element - it would be really cool if the text was highlighted when you went back to the text box and selected it.

  11. Allow for Wider PDF Export

Illustrator updated the maximum width years ago, can indesign please update this too.

Sometimes when exporting large pdfs like banners, we need to export spreads up to 10 meters+, please allow this to be a feature, so it's easier to show a proof to a client .

  12. Please create the SHARE FOR REVIEW link updateable as a standalone and not linked to just one indesign file.

Here is what’s happening in my workflow.

I create an indesign file (file_260729.ind) and share a link to clients for checking.

Once the client adds their comments, i revise the indesign file and save it as (file_260730.ind) now I NEED to create a new share for review link for clients which makes it confusing for clients to follow especially if you're dealing with a number of clients, each commenting at their own pace.

I have tried creating just one indesign MASTER file for client to check and just create an indesign copy for myself as archive BUT once i try…

  13. Paragraph Rules/Underline Skip Ink

Can Paragraph Rules/Underlines be updated to have a 'skip ink' feature, similar to how figma works.

For example, if I wanted to add a rule/underline below the word "example", I could choose for the line to go through the letter p or to skip any descenders adding in a gap to the line.

  14. Text variables with autosize frame

Please add a feature to InDesign so that text frames with auto-size enabled will function properly when text variables are inserted into them. This would eliminate the need to convert the displayed text variable to regular text, while still allowing the frame to auto-size normally.

  15. Ignore hidden pages when creating Share for Review link

I occasionally keep different versions of a given page hidden in my document in case I need them later. However, when creating a Share for Review link, I have to make sure I delete the hidden pages each time otherwise they will export in the Share for Review preview and confuse my reviewer.

Can you please add functionality into Share for Review so it will not export any pages that are hidden when creating a share link?

  16. Allow Alternate Layouts to map onto existing styles and to be applied to new pages

I frequently produce publications that require several very different sizes with the same content, it makes sense for our workflow to keep every size in a single file using Alternate Layouts, with the content linked so a change made once can be carried through. Creating an Alternate Layout already takes a set of pages and uses liquid page rules to adapt them to a new size and margins, which works, but I'd like to request two extensions to that feature.

First, when creating an Alternate Layout, give the option of letting the styles be mapped onto an existing set of…

  19. Spread View Lock to keep it from shifting all the time.

Need to stop the spreads from moving and zooming on their own. When working on two-page spreads on a large monitor, we don't need Adobe to keep moving our spreads around creating more work. Dragging a photo from a second monitor will automatically scoot the spread over for no reason. Also hyperlinking to new page will center that page recentering the spread for no reason. Mouse scroll wheel will often accidentally scoot the spread unintentionally and would be great to lock the spread view.

  20. Add "2" pages as default option to Add Pages rather than "1".

1 page as the default adds no value when writing hundred page books. Need to add "2" pages 99% of the time and have to take our hands off the mouse each time to add pages. Either all the default to be changed or add a "page up" button to change the page count without having to take your hand off the mouse to use the keyboard. Adding 2 pages is a new spread, adding 1 page just shuffles all the pages in the document.
