1. Easier to rearrange document tabs

   I often have many different documents open in tabs but not in separate windows. I drag the tabs together so that InDesign's screen looks sort of like a browser with multiple tabs at the top. But only the selected tab is visible in the main windows. But rearranging these tabs in my preferred order is VERY finicky. I have to drag precisely left or precisely right, and about half the time my tab, instead of rearranging, opens in a new window. Frustrating.

   The solution would be to recode so that when you drag a tab left or right to rearrange, OR to drag the tab for a separate window into a tab group, you have a buffer of a certain number of pixels above and below the tab group before you decide the user wants to move the tab, instead of into the tab group, into a new window.

   Related to this, there is an option Window > Arrange > New Window for [nameoffile]. Why not an option for Window > Arrange > New TAB for [maneoffile]?

2. Choosing book layers to output for Print/PDF

   I produce several multi-language books & brochures that consists of up to 114 separate documents linked via a Book file. Each language has its' own layer with the same name in all documents while other layers are exclusive to, or only exist in some documents. Currently when I have to Print or create a PDF of a specific language I have to open every single document to activate the layers I want visible, save, and then proceed to output the entire book.

   I would like to propose that Indesign incorporate an additional tab in its' print/pdf dialog boxes that lists ALL layers across all documents selected and allows the user to choose via a checkbox which layers are to be output.

   Furthermore I'd like to suggest layers with the same name work similar to how the Links dialog works where I could select the top-most label to output all layers with the same name -OR- have a drop down that lists the documents that layer name is found in & allows me to select which ones I want output or not.

   Additionally, I would like to be able to SAVE active layer settings so they can be reloaded rather than having to re-indicate which layers need to be activated/deactivated again when I go to reprint any particular language. This of course will likely require an indicator if available layers have changed within any of the selected files within the book.

   This would save a tremendous amount of time & effort especially when a change occurs across all languages requiring I output the entire book for each language. Currently having to open, activate/deactivate layers, & re-save every document for each language I need to output is extremely time consuming & ridiculous.

3. Add a "Clear All Alerts" button option to Background Tasks utility

   Sometimes I need to export files at a different setting to my ICC profiles setting and I have to clear the alerts after I have exported. It's very frustrating when I am exporting multiple times that I then have to select each individual file before deleting. Can we not have a "Clear All" option for multiple alerts, please? It would save lots of time when deleting.

4. MacBook Pro Special Characters

   When using the newer MacBook Pro series, we are able to use special characters like e-diaeresis by simply holding our 'E' button and there will pop up a menu where we can then choose to select the preferable character.

   Would love to see this! I have added an screenshot for clarification.

5. vocabray of dictionary - its accuracy of correction & words suggestion

   Today the all dictionary & spell checking take the resource from internet too - like a from wikitonary, google translator to have more vocabray. Please make sure & improve this function.

7. Allow for Custom location/settings of strokes on any shape.

   Like in tables or text boxes, I would like to see the Rectangle tool (or polygon, or multi-sided pen tool creation) to be able to choose which side has a Stroke (colour &, thickness, etc).

   I have a rectangle that I have cut one corner off of and want it to tuck into the corner of another rectangle. so I don't need the strokes to display for the bottom or side, but do for the top/ 45deg angle (right). Seems simple enough, but gets more when there are many sides to the shape... what's the limit you offer customization too? and what happens to the additional sides...?

8. iXBRL tagging - annual reports - ESEF reporting

   New regulations in Europe means that from 2020 all financial reports must be produced with XBRL tagging. InDesign is the single most used layout software for producing annual reports, but will be useless for the purpose without a solution for tagging.

9. Integration for Bengali (Bangladesh) Hunspell spellchecker

   For years I've been using my own Bengali (Bangladesh) hunspell spellchecking dictionary in InDesign, and I wish it was just integrated into the software. I'm the author of it and I'd be happy to provide it to InDesign. But alongside this it would be nice if the process of adding new hunspell dictionaries was easier, if it didn't need to be redone after every update; and currently it doesn't even work.

10. External (Global) Styles — (Paragraph, Character, Table, etc) to sync and apply to multiple documents

    It is constantly frustrating that every year Adobe fails to update InDesign with external Style functionality.

    It should be easy to define a set of Paragraph Styles and apply that as "Global Style" which can then be used
    across multiple InDesign files. Updating a "Global Style" would then apply those Style changes to all affected documents.

    This should apply to all things that can have styles applied, Table, Object, Paragraph, Character, etc. Any of these different styles should be able to be saved to an External Global Style — that can be then saved externally locally — or saved to the Cloud and applied that way.

    Currently this is not really possible and it's deeply annoying. I should be able to easily create a style that can be applied to any document I wish, and have any adjustments I make to that style automatically apply to all documents using it.

    Obviously there could be a simple dialog box that prompts when opening a document using a global Style that has been updated. The user is then given a choice to update the document so that it is in-sync with the style updates, or create a new style from the previous state, or keep all the current settings and not update the documentand keep the older style settings without overriding them with the new updates from the external Style.

    COME ON ADOBE. IT IS 2020.
    GLOBAL STYLES. Without them updating documents in the same sort of style language is a massive pain, because any evolutions or changes to a style in one document immediately makes all other documents out of sync — this is a very common use-case problem deisgner run into, and the fix to it is very strightforward.

13. Link comments to text as well as to physical location in graphics frame

    This could be viewed as a bug report, from the user's perspective. And I am a user and not a coder or designer for ID (though I am a UX dweeb.) However, from a coder/designer standpoint, this is a feature request, thus posting here rather than as a bug.

    The feature is to link comments not to an x,y location on a spread, but to (1) an x,y location within a graphics frame, or (2) for a text frame, to specific text in that frame. Linking to text can be by highlighting the text and then attaching a comment to it. (Deleted text that was highlighted could leave the comment at the place where it was deleted; attaching the deleted text to the comment automatically would be great but hard to code.)

    The reason for this is that if you add text or move graphics frames around and then, in the Share for Review Panel, click Update Link, your pins or lines don't point to the original material anymore, and all of those comments on that first version don't make sense any more.

    As Alan Cooper pointed out in his About Face 1.0, it is important to conform the user interaction design to the user's mental model. My mental model when I started using Share for Review was that I could edit the document, click Update Link and the existing comments' pins or lines would still connect to the text and graphics, not to an x,y position on the original spread. Maybe for a graphics-intensive single-page ad this would make sense, but not for a magazine article or book chapter, which, after all, is mostly what InDesign is about.

    I would suggest an immediate fix to this mental model/implementation model conflict by changing the Update Link button so it archives the original document on the server, with the comments still linking to the (right) original text and graphics, presenting the user with a URL for that, and then putting the new document up at the original URL without any of the original comments, but with a link to the original document/comments.

    This would allow time to develop the code to link better to text and graphics within their frames.

    It would require a bit of help in the interface for users to develop a mental model of how this works, but would be worth it.

15. a separate panel for overrides on character or paragraph styles

    The 'hover over the style' trick to display what the override is, doesn't work consistently.
    I separate info panel would speed up my work flow immensely.

16. Outline Mode, like Illustrator does!

    Hey team! How about an outline mode like illustrator? A simple command that show you everything outlined in your artwork, that would be great if you're working for pre-press. I always had the feeling that indesign should have this feature to make easier QA process!

17. Crop Marks In 100 Percent Black

    Please add the capability to produce crop marks in 100 percent black. In the 2019 printing industry, not having this feature accessible is mind boggling. While there may always be a need for offset printing along with crop marks in registration builds, to ignore the needs of the growing digital printing market is a grave oversight on Adobe's part. Print shops are losing enormous amounts of money in click rates by not being able to produce a true black and white side with crop marks. This especially affects four color over black printing.

    From 2013 to 2018, the digital printing market grew from $131 Billion to $187 Billion. [1] Adobe software is the print industry standard and to my knowledge, there is no feasible excuse for designers and press technicians to be using awkward and clunky workarounds to produce a simple thing like 100% black crop marks. With open source software becoming more accessible, you'd think Adobe would want to keep their programs relevant and up to date with the needs of the industry. This is a known issue, has been mentioned numerous times in feedback and on forums, it is an issue known to digital press sales people and service techs and nobody has come up with a solution?

18. It is SO important to have footnotes continue the numbering throughout a whole document without restarting the numbering every text frame

    It is bad document design to have the whole document in one single text frame (a nightmare when doing changes and everything moves). At the very least each chapter should start with a new text frame. So it seems crazy that you can set footnote numbering to restart every page, spread or section but when none of these are selected the numbering should flow through the whole document! NOT restart for each text frame. Thank you.

19. More options for importing text styles

    Please add extra options (in the screenshot), the two I would mostly love is only keep bold and italic styles.

    Have a lot of text every day to import from word, with lots of bold and italic noted words.

    I think a lot of people would love this feature!

20. Paragraph Style Groups and... Paragraph Style versioning

    It would be nice to create named subversions of the same style instead of just marking the changed paragraph styles with a + sign.

    Then such subversions of one style will be saved with an additional qualifying name, and they can be quickly assigned in the right place in the text, instead of manually marking up the text.

    This is somewhat similar to the existing style group, but with slightly different functionality.

    Let's say we need to build a table of contents. In this case, each heading has its own level of hierarchy, but several different paragraph styles cannot be placed at the same level of the hierarchy. If we could use the common thin style group name instead of a specific paragraph style name, a lot of nasty things would be solved.

    Another example concerns text variables for paragraph styles when creeping headings are applied. Several sections of the same publication may have different hierarchical structures, and different paragraph styles may fall on the same hierarchy level.

    Therefore, the introduction of versions of a single paragraph style would allow not to complicate the structure of the document too much by using many master spreads and manual control over them.
