freeze hyphenation, like XPress earlier
10 Years ago. with Xpress 4.0, there was the option to freeze hyphenation.
After you send a Version to the client, you can freeze the hyphenation and after that, only manually hyphenation and line breaks are common.
Reason: Client wants other hyphenations or line breaks, after he becomes the next version, there are more new hyphenations followed by the next correction. And finaly, you have broken every line manually.6 votes -
Improving Effects and Gradients for Objects
1) Making Effects easier to copy/paste blending options like in Photoshop layers between several objects (similar to pasting blending to several objects)
2) Also, improving precision and granularity of the rather smallish and sensitive gradient feather bar using mouse. When re-applying a gradient, it is difficult to slide existing gradient points without adversely affecting applied gradient to object, sometimes its easier to just restart a new one.

Allow Custom Cell Padding on Imported Spreadsheets
When importing excel or spreadsheets (.xls), Indesign CC automatically sets the cell padding on top/bottom as 0.0556" (or equivalent). There is currently no way to set default cell padding when Indesign is open without any publications/files open, nor is there an option when importing a document/spreadsheet.
Either allow for imported cell padding to be listed within the 'Show More Options" within the import screen, or allow for a global default cell padding to be entered into Indesign.
When publishing files that pull or link cell data from excel, each time the excel file is updated, it is a VERY manual…

Bleed on different size page documents
Allow for documents with different size pages the ability to choose which page has bleed. For example, when creating a document that has a card and envelope in it, choose the card page to have bleed/crop marks and remove bleed/crop marks from the envelope.

A system by which one could simply and easily find out the total number of words in the document.

Print page
Please consider changing the default setting on the Print Page setting from "Print All" to "Range". No one wants to Print All the pages every time you go to print pages. I cannot tell you how many times i hit print, thinking i am printing one page in the document and then realize i did not toggle "Range" and wind up running to the printer to cancel a file that is going to waste 25 sheets of paper. Please, please please change this default setting. Since i found this feature request site, I will now continue to send this request…

pdf intelligenti
Attualmente, chi esporta un PDF deve decidere tutto prima: pagine singole o affiancate, con o senza crocini, ecc. Il problema è che spesso chi riceve il file non specifica cosa vuole, e se sbagliamo l'esportazione non va bene.
Non sarebbe fantastico se InDesign potesse generare un PDF in cui è chi riceve il file a scegliere come vederlo? Ad esempio, con dei semplici tasti per attivare o disattivare i crocini di taglio o per passare dalle pagine singole alle affiancate.

[ID-4274018] Locate Object and Search Filter for Layers Panel
It would be really useful to have a Locate Object (magnifier glass) at the bottom of the Layes Panel (like we find in Illustrator).

Custom App Assignment for ‘Edit Original’ in InDesign
It would be useful to introduce a feature in InDesign that allows assigning specific applications for opening files when using the "Edit Original" command, so that, for example, you can choose Photoshop for .jpg .jpeg .png, Illustrator for .pdf .ai etc...
In this way, it is possible to keep the most common settings for the operating system, such as opening .jpg files with the Photos app and .pdf files with Acrobat.In InDesign there is already the option to assign a keyboard shortcut to start "Edit Original," but not one for "Edit With...," which greatly slows down the workflow.

Make it possible to customize context toolbar, or just to remove text to image option
I never need the 'Text to Image' option in the context toolbar, and it's way too easy to click it by mistake. Let users customise the context toolbar.

Advanced color options
I'd love to be able to define a custom CMYK / RGB pair in a single color swatch. There are Corporate Designs with a huge difference of the CMYK and RGB equivalents in their brand colors. So if I design a document that'll be used for viewing on screens and also printed, I have to maintain & update two versions of the document with two different sets of colors. If there's a solution to this, that'd make my day.

QR code without borders
Generating QR Codes in Indesign is great, but one thing is designwise a hassle: the invisible border of the QR code. It changes also in size when the code is more detailed as before, or less.
for a designer this normed border is only slightly important – it's more important where the visible part, the code itself starts and ends.. so we can align it visually to our design. Please add this function.5 votes -

Request: Add an option to toggle on/off "adjust page numbering when hiding spreads."
The updated Hide Spreads feature that adjusts page numbering when spreads are hidden is only useful in documents where you may have alternate versions of pages, but not when you are just trying to export unique sample pages from a long document. We have multiple users that had used Hide Spreads in CC2024 to easily exclude pages from a PDF export instead of having to type in page ranges to export. Allow ignoring white spaces in Find/Replace
it would be good if, the same way you can select "Case sensitive" in the find/replace, you could select "ignore white spaces" or "special characters" and only finds plain text with normal spaces.
For example, if you try to find a sentence that has non-breaking spaces, n-spaces, manual line breaks, etc, unless you add all those characters codes to the find field, InDesign won't be able to find the text. If you were able to ignore all those "special" characters you could find and replace the whole sentence with the text you want with normal spaces.

UI for tool panels to have 'fixed' sizes
Please add an option (as it may not be for everyone) to fix the size of the height of the tool panels, regardless of what tab is selected. It drives me mad that it jumps around so much, when selecting a different tab, and that resizes the entire column. Please can it just remain fixed, so all the tabs are where I left them, regardless of what's selected? The screenshots aren't even the worst that I've had, it's just two seconds of flicking through different tabs and seeing how they're all affected

Make overset text + icon stand out better
Maybe it is just me grappling with this, but I find it extremely hard to see the overset text ‘+’ in the bottom right of the text frames. Sure, I can go to preflight panel and resolve everything from there, but I often fix many other things too as I go and work quite visually. If the box had a red fill and the + was white, it would stand out better. Currently I have to zoom way out to get an idea of where they are.

Stop requiring a resave of documents in new InDesign versions
I would love it if the Adobe team would figure out a way to have new versions of InDeisgn not require a resave of previously created documents. This is probably THE most annoying feature of using this software. It is not user friendly when you have developed a working method on updating documents month to month, only to be prompted to save the file before any other processes can be performed. I can't tell you how many documents I have "Saved" to my desktop when I thought I was exporting them to PDF. Please fix. Annoying!!

I still want to ask why cell styles for tables, can't include row height settings?
It would lead to disastrous results?
I don't see that it would.
