Data merge
Recently I started using InDesign to make user manuals, but I wanted to make it easier to adapt it to the multiple products. I would like you to add an option where I can use multiple categorie variations on the same page underneath each other for the multiple languages that I need to include in the manual.
Thanks in advance!

Data Merge for spreads
it should be possible to export Data Merge directly to PDF as spread. So you don't have to create an InDesign-File first or edit your InDesign-File to generate an single page file.

Adjust text in frame to the right
Text tool. If you have too much text for a text frame with a small amount of text (e.g. 1-10 words), the text frame should enlarge to the right instead of downwards by using the keyboard command cmd+alt+c.
It would improve the workflow significantly, since you don't always have to drag the text box "right" again afterwards.2 votes -
Text Frame Auto-Size in story mode (linked frames)
Dear Indesign Development Team,
Please fix the Auto-Size Text Frame feature in InDesign. When running a story through multiple text frames the Auto-Size feature does not work. The feature should recognize the Frame Break or Column Break symbol as the end of the text in a frame and Auto-Size the frame accordingly. Please! I am tired of hacking my way through features to get the result I want while I feel it should be real simple.

Indesign Thumbnails for Windows Explorer
Hi Adobe!
I recently switched from CorelDRAW to Adobe, and the "No Thumbnails for explorer" drives me nuts.
Adobe seems to be trying to force us to use Bridge instead of Windows Explorer, but I'm not interested in using BR, I want to see my files directly in Explorer.
Please fix this issue!
See my post here:

Book Sections
It should be possible to define a section in a book that spans multiple documents. At the moment, I have to redefine a section at the start of each document.
There's no easy way to create a book of essays, grouped into sections and rearrange the essays and sections at will, renaming as I go, without huge time investments.

Book Styles
The book system needs a major overhaul. I should be able to update a style in one document and have it apply across the whole book immediately and quickly.
Right now, I have to through the painful synchronization process. Often that key source document that defines styles is not the best place to make edits to styles that only appear in another part of the book.
Also, if I rename a style, it doesn't propagate that style name change to through book, but rather adds a new style everywhere, making it a huge mess.

Make EXPORT and print dialogues more correct
The “spreads” function when combined with bleeds or trims options should warn to the effect that “Printers rarely accept spreads are you sure?”
While we are at it, the standard pressready setting should include bleeds.
Sick of sending back files advising that spreads is not a "print ready" and explaining what bleed is and how include bleed on pdf.

Adobe's out-of-date "Check Spelling" system
For long documents, every copy-conscious designer uses InDesign's "Check Spelling" feature. I think we can all agree it can be improved; the functionality and interface have changed very little since InDesign's inception.
We need an "Ignore Capitalization" button/feature:
InDesign users spend most of their spell-check time clicking the "Skip" or "Ignore All" buttons: skipping capitalization issues (where there are forced line breaks or lead-in lines styled in all caps, making the uncapped offender a benign issue), skipping proper names, skipping the plural and possessive versions of words we've already confirmed as legitimate. Why aren't there buttons for "Ignore Capitalization" and…

Name of the image near the link icon
Near the link icon, add the option "show/hide file name (and or extension)".
This will help when you have a catalog with 1200 products and in order to get the SKU and Color to fill the caption, you must click the image, then return to the text tool.
I know there's ways to auto input the name of the image. But sometimes the image contain other Information not important.

Why a new .indd file format with each update?
There was a time ID didn't require a new file format with each yearly update. Although I realize some features may genuinely require a new .indd format, I'm not sure the changes to latest CC22 require one. This is the 4th or 5th consecutive change, which means I have to update all files I regularly use through the years (standards manuals and the like). I can still seamlessly open Photoshop and Illustrator files from 5-10 years ago without worrying about re-saving them.

Scrubby Sliders for Everything Like Photoshop
In Photoshop, every scalable feature (opacity, text size, feather radius, etc) is a slider if you click and drag on the name of the adjustment. This is particularly useful for (large) font size. In Photoshop, you can live preview your text size by sliding, while InDesign you have to either arrow key or type numbers to preview. At the very least, make the font size drop down go above 72 pt like Figma!

Share for Review - Image Quality
Bring the optimized quality of Share for Review images up to the level of acceptable web-based image optimization at 100% size.
I understand the need to optimize images for high-performance quick reviews. However, the current setting is far too low. Upgrading the image quality to an acceptable web-image optimization will help reduce feedback loops with concerns from stakeholders over bad image quality.
In my review workflows using Shared for Review, I am now constantly exporting and sending separate PDFs to reviewers to prove image quality based on concerns from the Share for Review representation.
Please know that the Share for…

Layered Fonts
Please do provide a tool to implement layered fonts. The tool would need to:
- be able to automatically superimpose different layers of a font with different styles (color etc.) in the same place, or in a slight interval to create a shadow-effect
- be applicable to initials (as this is a very common use for layered fonts)2 votes -
Rename "Parent Pages" to "Master Pages" again.
For workflow reasons only, please: Bring us the OPTION to use the word: "Master Page" again. We support inclusiveness, but this is too much!
This initial idea only had 4 votes and you changed it.8 votes -
Select plug-in presets on start-up
It would be so great if there was a way to choose a working environment at the start of InDesign. We use many different plug-ins for different clients. These cannot and must not be mixed. So it is very difficult to always copy the plug-ins out of the folder first and the ones needed for the client into it. If I have to edit a document for another client, I first have to close InDesign, swap the plug-ins and start again. With many different clients, this is very time-consuming. It would be better if you could save these different settings…

Font size menu bars
I would like to be able to increase the font size for menu bars, tools and mouse-over hints. It would be a great improvement in terms of accessibility.

Button "back to starting point" in search and replace window
When working through a document you need to search and replace words and other if you recognize a typo error, another word needed or anything else. But if you "search and replace" forward and you find a hit somewhere further ahead or back there is no button to jump back from where you started your search.
Then you need to remember exactaly and search by scrolling where you started.
A button "back to starting point" would eleminate these useless search.2 votes -
If short form for the unit Points is "pkt" in could "pt" be accepted as alias instead of giving error message?
In Swedish version of InDesign (and other Adobe Apps) to enter a unit in points we must type "pkt" where I believe most languages accept "pt". It would be a better experience for the user if the software would accept either "pt" or "pkt", especially if teaching a class where there are users with different language versions following the same instructions. There is no point in receiving an error that an invalid unit has been entered if the intent is clear, and unambiguous.
Please change so that either pt or pkt can be entered as unit, that the unit is…

Fit Tables to Frame
Sometimes you just know how exactly a table should look, so a table that would just fill the frame you just created would just make sense. A way to resize the table without distorting its content or anything else would be a nice improvement to.
