Export layered psd
It would be great to be able to export Indesign layers to layered PSD with cropped Indesign images as masked in Photoshop.

Open a new file and see the full page upon opening
When you open a document, the upper left corner should appear in the upper left corner of the window. Then you won't have to scroll to see the page. Currently it opens on the pasteboard with the upper left corner in the middle of the window so it's mostly hidden.
So annoying. I hope you can fix it.

Add Python to the list of supported scripting languages
The only cross platform scripting language currently supported is ExtendScript, based on ECMAScript (almost 2 decades old v.3, which in itself is already long overdue for an update). Python is cross platform, easy to learn and very powerful. InDesign's DOM can be translated naturally into Python. Python has a vast set of functional libraries, and still growing. Supporting Python from within InDesign would in its most basic form only have to enable *.py scripts in the Scripts panel, but it would benefit of an interactive console of its own.

flowable sound in fixed Epub Layout
I would SO MUCH like to have the possibility to ad sound that is able to continue even if pages are turned when I export a file as Epub with fixed layout. I really need this option to be able to give readers of my childrens picturebook the possibility to listen to the book read aloud along with original background music.

I hate the "Search is completed" or "Cannot find match" messages after searches
Specifically I hate having to click OK to close the message.
Could the same messages just appear in the search window itself instead of the current alert? Maybe with color to make it obvious?16 votes -
Auto update the Table of Contents when saving or PDF'ing
Currently you have to REMEMBER to update your TOC before you export to a final PDF (or before a final print). It would be helpful if it updated automatically upon saving or maybe include it as an option in the Adobe PDF presets, checked by default together with "View PDF after exporting" etc.

Print Preview Dialogue Box
The small print preview in the print dialogue box was recently changed to a light grey, making it harder at first glance to discern page from background. Can you please allow changing it back to dark grey be a preferences option

Add a conditional text checkbox in eyedropper settings
As in topic. It would be much easier to allow condition to be applied with eyedropper tool

InCopy - Give more pdf options in InCopy (pdf presets available)
It would be very helpful if the pdf preset options exist also in InCopy. Here, it is the Incopy user who creates and sends the pdfs for corrections (after his last adaptations). The options in InCopy are very poor…

Need option for auto-fit in table cell style
When I reduce the text size in table, the rows height not fit automatically and its manual work to fit the each row for whole table. It's make easier if we have option to fit the cell height automatically based on content like Object style "Auto-Size"option.

color labels onto style-groups
I would appreciate to have the possibility giving colors to style groups. Like the layer-labels in Photoshop. If you have many styles, you would have a better optical separation.

Print as mockup
All designers print or export their designs with a stroke that defines the paper size. That stroke could be replaced by a fill that simulate a certain paper colour (prefs defined) and a short subtile dropshadow.
It would be great to have in the print/export dialogbox a function that could do that for you, simulate a certain paper colour for the background and a dropshadow. Print as Mockup function4 votes -
Variable for dimensions
It would be very useful to have a text variable for dimensions of the page/trimbox/bleedbox or even for objects (along the lines of a caption).

Appearance Panel
Illustrator has the Appearance Panel. InDesign should have it too. I want to have multiple fills, and strokes to be behind the fills.

Mute ruler contrast to reduce UI clutter
Just a small idea, but would it be possible to reduce the contrast in the ruler markings slightly. There's a lot going on in the ID UI and reducing the contrast of the ruler markings to remain in the window's inactive state color - light gray - even when in active state greatly reduces the amount of noise onscreen. Would also make the dashed cursor position indicators easier to spot (currently they're impossible to see amidst the high contrast markings).

Option to make all stories in ID file editable by editors using InCopy
Why should I have to go through and export each story I want them to be able to edit? It would make more sense if I could tell ID that all the stories (or all of them except a few that I opt out) are to be editable by my editors. We don't use assignments. I export all the stories they need to be able to edit and they open the ID file in InCopy. But with dozens or hundreds of captions and other items in addition to main stories, it's quite annoying. I am curious what would make the…

make Spell Check and Find/Change operate in page order rather than chronological order of text box creation
Find/Change and Spell Check seem to function in a random way (they actually search through text boxes in the order in which the boxes were created in the document). In a large document a user can become very confused about how much of the document is searched, especially if he makes changes mid-search.
It would be much more user friendly if the functions would operate in a page by page order.
