A preference choice to disable the application of local formatting.
A preference choice to disable the application of local formatting. This setting would have fine tune control (similar to the eye dropper tool) to allow some local formatting, such as kerning.
This feature would be ideal for templates as well as team based workflow.1 vote -
Replace the startup panel
PLease replace the awful startup panel that looks like someone had a mental breakdown, spilling derangement over the screen in gaudy black and violet.. unbelievable that anyone could imagine this would be attractive. Luckily I mostly don't see it as my computer opens before I arrive, but every time I do I feel I want to immediately quit the program.. and send a report to you.

Disable help and tips windows
Most of them, as a long-time user of InDesign, Are not useful for me.
Specially when they come in front of needed buttons and cannot be closed (bug ?).2 votes -
Allow the cursor to change from black to red, or any colour in spectrum (colour blind)
Create a colour cursor option to change colour from black to red/green/blue/etc. I find extremely difficult to follow the black cursor in InDesign as it competes with the various Application Frames./dropdown menus.

Outline type when exporting PDF
For various reasons, I export most of my high-res PDFs with the type outlined. Once a piece is finalized, I'll duplicate any pages in the file, then outline the type before exporting. It's not ideal (it confuses anyone new who comes in and has to work with our files), but it works.
The downfall is that, if there are any links using live type, that won't get outlined. And if it's a multi-page document, we wind up with a LOT of outlining and a ton of pages.
It would be AMAZING if InDesign included the option to outline all type…

PDF Export Formatting Issue
I found that no matter what export options I use or how I format my file, it exports incorrectly. My content is in 2 columns on InDesign but when exported it seems pretty random how the PDF is structured (see the image).
This poses a problem for parsing software to be able to read the document in the correct order. It's common practice within most companies to use this for resumes. I'm sure it's also used elsewhere as well.
I've contacted support and they tried to resolve the issue by using my computer remotely. They found that this feature is…

Duplicated style sheets should not override the original's keyboard shortcut
When you duplicate a text style that has a shortcut key assigned to it, the duplicated style keeps the shortcut key and the original style loses it (it gets greyed out).
What should happen is that the new style has no shortcut key assigned to it, and the existing one keeps it. I see no reason for the current behaviour.

Color Swatches Menu too small and not resizable
In InDesign CC 2019 the Color Swatches Menu is too small and not resizable, like in CS6. It was very useful to resize the menu so not to have to scroll in a small window through the many colors of some projects.

Add ability to add multiple header rows to tables
I would like to be able to add multiple header rows (or something along those lines) to tables so that a table style would be reapplied from that row onward. This would allow alternating fills to always begin on the same color after a header. This feature would be especially handy when adding a row to an existing table as only the fills under the current section of the table you're working on would change. Additionally this table would then be one single table instead of multiple linked tables, allowing changes to any formatting such as column width to be…

JPEG export should be numbered usefully
InDesign exports JPEGs as: blah.jpg, blah2.jpg, blah3.jpg, etc.
Even InDesign itself can't properly parse this numbering scheme when it imports JPEGs. They should be numbered: blah01.jpeg, blah02.jpg, blah03.jpg, etc.
Either that, or InDesign should be smart enough to recognize and properly import its own JPEGs.

Add a Shortcut for Effects (instead of Dropshadow)
For some reason, only the Drop Shadow effect has a keyboard shortcut. So if we frequently use an other effect, we can reacht the effects panel by choosing the keyboard shortcut for Drop Shadow. But then we have to first switch off the Drop Shadow effect.
Why not create a Shortcut to the effects panel, without activating Drop Shadow.[more: the shortcut currently adds a Drop Shadow AND opens the panel, which is inconvenient if you (for some reason ;-) want to use Drop Shadows all the time.]
Needs a UX rework.

Support Apple Pages file as original text file
I use Pages a lot, more than word, as pages support a lot of macOS native shortcut and I like to use them to quickly do my text editing, but word on the other hand has too many shortcut that doest follow the logic in macOS…
As a heavy Pages user, it would be a huge time saving option to be able to link my pages file into indesign the same way as word file does.
I like the idea of doing my text in a clean text editor like Pages, and linking it to InDesign to do the heavy…

Save Page(s) as File(s)
I prepare files for a team of 5 designers at my local university. In order for the designers to work on the project they need each page as a separate .indd file. As it would make my life easier and sounds like I don't want to do my job it would increase my workflow immensely.

Vertical Justification & Align to Grid clash each other
when i turned on align grid, it should honor the setting i want, but when i apply text frame option-> vertical justification->justified, everything just messed up.
first, after setting text frame to justify, and you turn on align to grid, (mostly this happened when there's not enough text to fill the frame so the leading has to be stretched) it does change the space between lines, (Eg if your justified lines are fairly wide, turn on align to grid will make it narrower) but its not actually align to the grids (no matter if your leading is smaller/greater than the…

Accessibility—Artifact tables for layout, but keep their content
Sometimes designers use a table for layout purposes, not for a traditional spreadsheet-like matrix data in columns and rows.
Example: A table that creates a complex, multi-celled form. For layout, it's easier to create rows and columns to hold the form labels and form control fields.
However, when the form is exported to PDF, the table structure itself is not needed and often gets in the way of many assistive technologies.
Need a way to artifact the table structure itself, but retain the content within the table as live text and form fields. And of course, have it correctly tagged…

placing an .ai file with multiple art boards,
When placing an .ai file with multiple art boards, it would be an improvement if I could place by the art board name instead of number.
Example A file may contain an art board that is CMYK or Spot. The thumbnail looks the same. Its a waste of time if I place the wrong art board.
IT would make my work day more efficient and less frustrating.

InDesign linking to Excel Charts and Graphs
Link directly to charts and graph content which can be refreshed by updating the Excel link.
We often have to include graphical components in PDF's and it would be useful to have this feature to help improve workflow19 votes -
Creating a PDF with its actual file name
When creating a PDF can the name of the file be exactly as the document working on, not adopting an old file name you've create the file from?

Allow users to add footnotes in table text!!!
Please allow users to add footnotes in table text, I can't believe that this is not poosible. I am formatting a lengthy document for a client and some of the footnotes need to be in table text and they cannot be added without disrupting the flow of footnotes. This is such a basic thing that you should be able to do! Please add it!
