Thank you all for your feedback and votes on the feature request.

I too am an In5 user and have wondered about Adobe purchasing Ajar Production’s code and rolling it into InDesign. I suppose that Adobe would prefer for web design to concentrate in XD (or Dreamweaver). I wish to retain GREP and other features, my experience, and my work. (I see someone on Adobe XD User Voice requesting hanging punctuation. We have that in InDesign and Publish Online supports it, albeit without selectable text. I wish Publish Online supported a selectable text overlay).

There are now three threads with this request:

“Fit text to frame”, posted August 17, 2017
“Fit text to frame”, posted September 17, 2020
“Content to Frame with Live Typography”, posted July 5, 2021

I add my vote! For my current use case, which is a single line of text, I wish for: A) Tracking to decrease to a certain point, and if this is insufficient, then B) Decrease the font size to a certain point, and if this is insufficient, then C) Flag the box for my attention.

I second your suggestion. Yesterday, I was pondering a design. The design solution requires a Gaussian blur. Today, I attempted to solve it. I quickly discovered that it cannot be accomplished inside of InDesign. And moving outside of InDesign entails a low productivity workaround.

In Lightroom, there are, among others, fields for Original File Name, File Name, Preserved File Name, and File Base Name. The File Base name field does not show the file extension.

You may not be a Lightroom user, but the same solution should apply: The deeper solution to your question is support for a full range of metadata. If I import a NEF file into Lightroom, and export a TIFF file, and then import that TIFF file into InDesign, then I want the option of displaying:

    1) The file name as it is in Lightroom, and/or 2) The file name as exported from Lightroom and imported into InDesign, and/or 3) What you are hoping for, the file name as imported into InDesign without the file extension.

At the moment, there are pitfalls all along the path. I am hoping that Text Variables will receive a significant update and care for all the related shortcomings in InDesign.

I arrived at roadblocks in Text Variables over the past two days. First, I discovered that the full range of metadata contained in Lightroom is not available via Text Variables, and then, Second, I discovered that Text Variables does not play well with GREP. Yes, please, bring new life to Text Variables!

The ability to find colors in documents in now available in InDesign’s latest release 16.0.

It can be found in a new tab of Find/Change dialog – Color.
Please let us know your feedback in comments.
