A complete overhaul would be greatly appreciated. Tables are one of those BASICS that just never seem to be touched. I was happy to see they did SOMETHING with the tables a year or two ago, being able to reorganize the row or column using drag, has been a huge help. That said, we need more fluid functionalities like that. Even something as seemingly simple as my alternating row fills messing up entirely when a row needs to be removed. I can't tell you how many times I just wanted to never make a table in indesign again.
This old car needs to be serviced! You have a lot of designers dropping out of Adobe, do yourselves a favor and get these old things cleaned up before the next generation is still complaining about how antiquated it is like Quark.

Yes, this could potentially eliminate the need for separate panels altogether. As it stands, even now in June 2020, I want to have everything fully integrated into the properties panel but find I waste time and had to go to the styles panel or fully into the table properties to remove default line strokes. Screenshots of old properties menu at the top vs the nowhere-to-be-found property of choosing table strokes in the panel.

You could also use the workspace "Essentials Classic". Takes everything back to the top properties bar.

The fix for this issue is now available in the latest update (14.0.2) of InDesign 2019.

If you are unable to see the update notification, open the menu (three dots) from the top-right of Creative Cloud desktop application and click on ‘Check For App Updates’.
Once the update button is shown against InDesign, click on the button to update to Id 14.0.2.

If you face any problems with the new update, do let us know in the comments.

The list of fixed issues can be found at: helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/fixed-issues.html

This would help the stress go down every year for my team! :D Great request!!
@Kelly; I think that would work if it's checked when creating the book file, a "set it and forget it" kind of thing.

We have to make a separate proof then relink all the files to the book...cross-references and all would need updating...such a time suck. If we make a "Proof 2" folder based on the original "Proof 1" and all the files are together in "Proof 2" why are you looking in "Proof 1" INDB?!!
    That's just my thoughts...

As part of the investigation into the cause of this issue, we personally reached out to many of you over email. We have so far heard from only some of you.

Of the responses we have received, the conclusion we’ve come to is:
This issue was intermittent, happened once during the course of work but somehow got resolved and has not happened again. This issue can’t be reproduced now.

Over a period of time, this thread has not thrown any fresh clues on why this issue seems to occur randomly for some and then seems to resolve itself. So we’re closing this thread.

However, even though we’re closing this thread, if you again run into this issue any time on a consistent basis, please report it here on UserVoice (in a new thread) with supporting assets like:
    A) a test file,
    B) detailed steps to replicate the issue
    C) any…

This issue just happened to me...ten minutes ago. When is this update going to be released because I want to make sure it doesn't start happening to my coworkers...they are always leary on updating so they *just* updated their iOS to High Sierra and CC 2018...I'm on El Capitan still.
They will stop us from doing updates if it starts happening to them (which I like to stay up to date on myself)
