Five years later, I'm still encountering the exact same bugs on my dual-monitor setup whenever I drag a tab or window to the second screen to work more comfortably. This is unacceptable for a professional design application. The total lack of fixes for such critical issues makes me seriously question the dedication of the InDesign development team.

I am experiencing the same bug on a dual-monitor setup when moving a document tab/window to the second screen to work more comfortably. This kind of issue is unacceptable for a professional design application.

This bug is still present in InDesign 2026, several years after reporting it. I'm usually working on the layout of imported Word documents with hundreds of pages.

The fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2026(v21.0.1.006). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application, click on the context menu on the top right, and click on Check for App Updates.

I thought I had the same issue but in reality, believing I was doing well, I had unticked the multi gesture box in the interface preference pane (since I don't own an external trackpad). But it seems Logi options+ uses the multi gesture functionalities to communicate with MacOS apps.

I already warned about this very same bug 5 years ago… it happens when a footnote is present in a splited column layout. See my report there :

To me it's related to the way InDesign handles the Apple Studio Display parameters, not to the fact of changing screen, because the ASD is my only screen (I don't have to change screen to provoque the bug).

The same happens here on a Mini M1 with Apple Studio Display : after waking up, InDesign doesn't display nothing except a grey screen. This bug seems to be related to the management of the screen parameters of the Apple Studio Display because the same bug occurs after changing the screen ICC profile in the Screen Control Panel of MacOS.

I lost all Save, Save As, Undo functionality (everything is grayed out). To save my work, I have to export as an IDML .

131 votesAs part of the investigation into the cause of this issue, we personally reached out to many of you over email. We have so far heard from only some of you.
Of the responses we have received, the conclusion we’ve come to is:
This issue was intermittent, happened once during the course of work but somehow got resolved and has not happened again. This issue can’t be reproduced now.Over a period of time, this thread has not thrown any fresh clues on why this issue seems to occur randomly for some and then seems to resolve itself. So we’re closing this thread.
However, even though we’re closing this thread, if you again run into this issue any time on a consistent basis, please report it here on UserVoice (in a new thread) with supporting assets like:
A) a test file,
B) detailed steps to replicate the issue

Fix for this issue is available in the latest InDesign 2026 release version 21.6

I face almost the same bug on InDesign v19 on Sonoma after changing the display profile of an Apple Studio Display while running InDesign, the inner part of the document window becomes gray or pink or green and nothing else appears, the document is no longer visible.

To identify the cause of this issue, we started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received an email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.
We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the following: Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.
We recommend you upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2025(v20.0.0.095) as it is more robust and contains a lot of bug fixes.
We seek your support in our continual effort to improve InDesign.

Same here. This bug is present for several years and nobody from Adobe's team seems to care about it. Still this is a huge bug because it reveals some major negligence in the programming of the Split View functionality.

We have released InDesign CC2019.0.2 with lot of bug fixes. If you are not on 14.0.2.324 then I would recommend you to upgrade to latest version as it is more robust.
If you still face this issue even after updating, please provide more information to santalwa@adobe.com –

There are still many bugs left in the split window mode. For instance, InDesign crashes a lot copy-pasting between the two sides of the split window view. Beside this, InDesign has some difficulties remembering the page number displayed in the page number area below each one of the two sides of the window of the same document. Really annoying. This affects the last version (19.0.1) but this is a bug running for several years.

It happens a lot while copy-pasting between the 2 sides of a splitted window. I mean: the gestion of splitted windows is very buggy (when you ask for a 2d window of the same document viewed side by side).
