18.4 and 18.5 exported PDF corrupted
Hi guys,
Our books are printed in house with Xerox Nuvera 288 Presses. We recently faced this issue, and tho it should be addressed in 18.5 updated, we're still facing the same problem in 18.4 with 18.5 (Images attached below) where the whole book is printed out, but have left a single page blank.
In this example, this page 85 went blank every time we ran it through the press when exported with 18.4 and 18.5, but got no problem with 18.3. This error also happened to 9 out of 10 book titles (exported with 18.4 and 18.5) that we print, which is a major issues for our production.
The confusion is, all the content in the black page is text base, no special fonts or images, not font issue or errors came up when we exported it out what so ever. We reverted back to 18.3 and all the issues are fixed. I even reverted back to 18.1 and 18.2 to make sure our theory is right, and yes, 18.4 and the new 18.5 are versions that gave us the issue.
We don't know what actually cause the corruption since there was no error showed, or just the interaction issues between the PDF of 18.4 and 18.5 with the presses.
I also attached our export setting below (our export setting is unchanged, works completely fine with 18.3 and previous versions)
Cheers,
V
The fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2024(v19.5.0.084). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application and click on the context menu on the top right and click on Check for App Updates.

I haven't recieved any feedback since 27th October 23.
This issue is still ongoing and causes problems. -

Today another two weeks past without any response either here or me personally.
Our customers have to check every imposed sheet for faulty pdf exports and are not willing to continue this procedure without any perspective.
Their workflow is supposed to be fully automated form input of the pages to exposing sheets on thier CTPs.
This is ongoing too long without any feedback. -

The problem is also noticeable in other rips. I had a printing error on a Fiery Rip with a PDF created from Indesign 19. Since you never know beforehand when and where an error will occur, this is tricky. And in any case there are costs involved. I would like feedback from Adobe on this topic.

This problem and how to deal with it are posted on the support page of the imposition software "FACILIS".

According to this, there is a problem with PDFs created with InDesign 18.4, 18.5, Illustrator 27.8, and 27.9. -

I regularly calm down our customers from international newspaper industry since end of Juli 23.
We can only offer the manual workaround to redistill their corrupted sheets after they manually revision them or got complaints from thier customers.
This is ongoing from version 18.4 to version 19 with minimal response of the actal state at Adobe.
A week after the first posting form Viet Lu Adobe demanded example files which were provided form several sides. After that no feedback until oct. 13 when the status of this issue changed to "under revision".
I monitiored several other postings in this forum which called similar problems and noticed also minimal feedback there.
From the reactions of Adobe, they doesn't seem to notice or aren't able to get the impact of the problem for several different fields of business.
I personally am tired of getting no response and can only convey dissatisfying answers to our customers.
Which benefit brings a feedback forum without feedback? -

So, interesting followup about this issue. We just installed a new version of Apogee Prepress software and upon talking to a resource with the company I was shown that they have a specific hotfix applied in their new version 13 software that addresses this problem that InDesign exporting has caused. I still have not been able to test it personally. I have to imagine that someone reached out to Adobe to make you aware of this issue in 18.4 and yet it still is not corrected. This and the increasing number of complaints on this topic shows that there is a problem that is not being addressed. I know that this has already caused problems here and a rather large financial hit with re-works. This has been going on for 3 months and minimal response.

This is causing us lots of problems too, and like some others here we're using Apogee, which crashes using PDFs exported using v18.4, 18.5 and 19.0. The preflight won't work at all and gives an error with no further details.
Never encountered it prior to v18.4, but re-saving the exported PDFs as postscript files and then distilling them fixes it, so something is definitely broken in InDesign.

The issue still exist in InDesign Version 19.0
I created two PDF documents from the same InDesign document.
With InDesign 17.4 there are no errors shown in our workflow.
But InDesign 19.0 PDF shows syntax errors and aborts the process.
InDesign 19.0 uses the same PDF library as Version 18.4 and 18.5.
So i assume nothing has changed in Version 19.0 -

InDesign 2024 (Version 19) was published on 10. oct.
There isnn't any mention which could help with this issue.
Please give us some feedback about the new version. -

We too have problems with PDF exported from InDesign version 18.5
I also reported this.
Our PDF Workflow (Agfa Apogee) shows syntax error when preflighting the PDF and then stops further processing.
No detailed information were shown, just a syntax error. Placing the corrupt PDF Files in Indesign 18.3 and export PDF from there fixes the errors. Something is corrupt in InDesign version 18.4 and 18.5. Please fix this. -

Ravi,
I know that you responded to me after supplying you with some sample files. The comment you made was to look at our imposition software to see if it is not compatible with your updated libraries. I will look into this, but I still would like to know what Adobe changed in the export to PDF function that broke this. We have found that if we create a PDF file through Adobe Distiller and then bring that PDF file into the same imposition program that it works correctly. Why does your Adobe Distiller product work and yet the export to PDF in 18.4 & 18.5 does not work? Looking at the comments you are getting from many different users, it appears that this is some kind of Adobe issue. Please advise.

Hi Ravi, is there any progress on this problem. It has become more prevalent as our clients are upgrading to 18.4 and 18.5 and we cannot ask them all to back grade to 18.3.
Help please.

Is there any further news on this Ravi? We are seeing more and more random PDFs failing various workflows ..... and everytime if we ask our clients to back grade to ID 18.3 the problem is fixed. This is a huge issue.

We are a PrePress house and we are also seeing random problems with ID generated PDFs in 18.4 and 18.5. We are seeing ripping problems in our Agfa workflows or PDFs that are dropping images and text.

Hello Ravi.
The update to Version 18.5 didn't resolve the problem.
Momentarily our workaround is to redistill corrupt pdf files which solve the issue of not appearing after imposing but imply other issues regarding image quality.I got the *.indd files from our customer.
How can I share you the link directly?(Edited by admin)
