18.4 and 18.5 exported PDF corrupted
Hi guys,
Our books are printed in house with Xerox Nuvera 288 Presses. We recently faced this issue, and tho it should be addressed in 18.5 updated, we're still facing the same problem in 18.4 with 18.5 (Images attached below) where the whole book is printed out, but have left a single page blank.
In this example, this page 85 went blank every time we ran it through the press when exported with 18.4 and 18.5, but got no problem with 18.3. This error also happened to 9 out of 10 book titles (exported with 18.4 and 18.5) that we print, which is a major issues for our production.
The confusion is, all the content in the black page is text base, no special fonts or images, not font issue or errors came up when we exported it out what so ever. We reverted back to 18.3 and all the issues are fixed. I even reverted back to 18.1 and 18.2 to make sure our theory is right, and yes, 18.4 and the new 18.5 are versions that gave us the issue.
We don't know what actually cause the corruption since there was no error showed, or just the interaction issues between the PDF of 18.4 and 18.5 with the presses.
I also attached our export setting below (our export setting is unchanged, works completely fine with 18.3 and previous versions)
Cheers,
V
The fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2024(v19.5.0.084). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application and click on the context menu on the top right and click on Check for App Updates.

I was just told, that we are going to roll out a own patch in our software, so I will not be able to tell, if Indesign v19.4 fixed our problem or what exactly changed in this version.
And also, yes, there was a too long responsetime of this issue.
Please take the porcess of this issue as a learning example to improve coming issues. -

We're starting to get mostly 19.4 files now and things seem to be resolved however we have received a 19.4 file or 2 that have caused errors but that was most likely due to having some of the corrupt pdf elements placed into those files. Imagine that will take a bit longer till more and more update.
Still doesn't excuse how long it took to fix this.

We are still waiting for feedback of our customers when they have installed 19.4.

Waiting to update until we start getting more new files from customers but so far it seems okay.

The problem seems to be solved in Indesign version 19.4

After updating to 19.4, our issue appears to have been resolved. However, our needs for InDesign at my shop aren't as significant as others who have posted here. I would encourage others try this new version to see if it fixes the problem. I'm still hanging on to version 18.3 in case we start having problems again.

Please give some feedback.
We got an ascending number of customer requests, which have imense more workload to do because of this issue. -

We have been working with the recent build (19.3) and are encountering similar problems. Sometimes even vector-artwork is corrupted on export. I guess we will try to step back to 18.3 and hope that Adobe will fix this issue.

This is still ongoing at our side, when could we expect a solution of your survey?

Still happening here also.
Come on Adobe, it's been over EIGHT MONTHS since this fundamental bug was first discovered that appears to be affecting most commercial printers, surely the most important InDesign customers of all.

This is still ongoing at our side, too.

This is so frustrating. I get rip errors in Fiery workflows, I get PS errors in direct printing, syntax errors in print workflow. Things that have actually been forgotten for a long time. No one pays for the work involved in avoiding these errors. And I don't know what's worse. This error itself, or the fact that there is absolutely no feedback from Adobe about this.

And still nothing..

Even though there is no fault on the user’s side, when we receive the response ‘No workaround is available,’ what should we, as users, do? If the next version of InDesign is released as planned in the fall, users will be left with InDesign versions that have issues with PDF export functionality. Please address this bug promptly.

Same status here as well. I did run a file through qpdf and saw file offset warnings. The resulting "qdf" file did work though. This was a simple 4 page file going to plate. Will try on other files in the future.
May or may not help but I am attaching a screenshot from the command line. This was from a 19.2 file that wound up with missing text on the first page.

PDF export is an extremely important part of Indesign. And it is disappointing that there is no communication regarding the errors in the PDFs. The PDF export used to work perfectly, so it must be known which changes led to the incorrect PDF exports.

There is still no response form Adobe either here or in other forums about this issue.
Again, please give any feedback. -

We're still having issues with 19.2 as well. Rewriting a pdf from 18.3 works about 90% of the time. We do sometimes get an error in Apogee 10. Invalid stream length, IOError. Apogee can also have problems creating thumbnails if none are embedded when the error occurs. Usually a random page or two.
I'm sure at least some here know Agfa / Eco3 sent info on their findings about this soon after it was discovered and they made their patch. Unfortunately not everyone is running patchable versions. Can understand it might take time but this is getting beyond tedious and for the first time I actually cringe when I see pdf files from InDesign.
