Weird replacement issue with small caps and breaks
When text is set in small caps, the German ß ligature gets replaced by ss. When that replacement then is at the end of a line and the word needs to break and wrap around, InDesign creates missing glyphs.
This is not an issue with the font and it is not a general issue, because Illustrator doesn't do it. It happens with true small caps and with fake ones.4 votes -
InDesign not responding, unable to close when a file is closed
I am using InDesign (18.5), whenever I closed one file the whole InDesign became not responding, unable to close, open new file, or do any at all. I have to open task manager to force close every time.
Is this an issue with the new version or others. Please help.

Data Merge merges only first record repeatedly
Using InDesign for Windows v18.5.
First of all, I TRIED to upload the InDesign file in question to this forum, and get an error message stating that uploading of InDesign files is not allowed. In an InDESIGN FORUM?
The issue here is the failure of InDesign to properly merge records from a CSV/TXT document. I have a source document (tab-delim text) and multiple fields in the InDesign document. (I am NOT trying to place multiple records per page. It's a single record with multiple tab-delim fields per page.) When I do a preview of the merge, the preview looks perfect,…

PDF from Indesign 18.5 document that has placed .indd files fails to RIP on EFI Fiery RIPs
I have a file which is a page of placed indd files to make up a label sheet.
Since updating from 18.3 to 18.5 this file and other similar files fail to RIP on two different (one xerox and one konica) EFI fiery systems.
Downgrading back to 18.3 fixes the issue.

InDesign won't quit
Since the update to v18.5, InDesign won't quit after working on a document. If I simply just open the program and won't open or create any document, it closes perfectly. But once a document is created or opened, the program itself won't quit afterwards and just sits/hangs there requiring force quit.
Resetting the preferences and dumping the caches didn't help either. Running Win 11 Pro x64. Nothing else is changed except ID got updated yesterday to v18.5.
I don't want to uninstall and reinstall because it's not a 'major' issue - just posting here so it's known and hopefully they…

Gray boxes behind photos in Share for Review
I have been using the new Share for Review for the last little while and am enjoying receiving feedback directly on my documents for import into InDesign. However, I recently went to a published file and noticed that all of the images in my design now have a light gray square behind them. Additionally, the colours and blending on some of the images are all off or look odd. The gray boxes appear on all of my previously uploaded documents, and I've checked from multiple computers and they all appear to show these boxes.

[Scripting] Document.findObject() incorrectly targets activeDocument
System: Indesign 18.4, MacOS 13.4.1
To reproduce:
1. Open two documents, each with a filled frame 100% tint.
2. Run attached script "findObject bug.js"
3. Note the console output.
4. Refer to this forum post for notes and commentary.Expected result:
doc.findObject() will return found items from both open documents.Actual result:
doc.findObject() returns only items from active document.Note that using app.findObject() is not a viable workaround in some cases, such as the issue in this post.

Missing glyphs in a Right-to-Left Paragraph direction
InDesign Middle Eastern Version 18.4.0.56
Steps to reproduce the issues:
a. In Preferences>Composition>Highlight, turn on Highlight for missing glyphs.
b. Type in a text box open and closing parenthesis.
c. Toggle between Right-to-Left and Left-to-Right Paragraph direction.Expected result: Missing glyphs should not be affected by paragraph direction.
Actual result: When the direction becomes Right-to-Left the parenthesis are highlights as missing glyphs.
Additional Information:
If you type one Hebrew letter before and after the parenthesis, the parenthesis will be highlighted with missing glyphs also on Left to Right Paragraph direction.I tried with various fonts, all behave the same. Today…

anchored object ignores textwrap of the first line
When anchoring an Object in a text and selecting the object to wrap around the text, the first line ignores this command.
When searching for a solution, i stumbled upon this entry describing the problem.the only solution seems to be to anchor the text in a previous line.
However, I want my textanchor to be on the right spot, so a screenreader can read it correctly - so anchoring it one line above is no option for me.
Is there a fix to this problem?4 votes -
Balance Column Freezes InDesign (MAC/PC) and InDesign Server
InDesign Server 18.1, InDesign (18.2.1, 18.3 on Mac and PC) (also did this in 17 but was hoping better in 18)
(Zip and indd files are not being allowed to upload). Please contact me for the file.
System freezes when selecting the frame on the last page and balancing the column.

Slow performance, only using 100% of one logical processor
Since the update in March, InDesign (v 18.2.1 x64) runs extremely slow on my Windows 11 laptop. Never experienced such delays before. I have 16GB RAM and a AMD Ryzen 7 5700U with Radeon Graphics processor. InDesign appears to only use one of the sixteen logical processors and it slows down my entire system. Overall processor use may only be 34%, but the system is slowed down to the point where the mouse pointer doesn't even move.

With GPU preview page's content vibrates constantly | InDesign 18.2.1
I use InDesign 18.2.1 on a MacBook Pro 2023 (M2 Max) with macOS Ventura 13.2.1. When the GPU preview is enabled, the page's content vibrates constantly. Please check the attached video (I made it by putting my iPhone on a tripod in front of my display because if I start a screen recording, the issue disappears).

ID crashes when call method "createHyperlinkQRCode" on Rectangle from "afterOpen" event handler
ID 18.1 Windows 10
I'm trying to develop a script that updates the QR code (creates anew in the same Rectangle ) when the document is opened.
The Startup Script sets the event handler of the "afterOpen" event, where the "createHyperlinkQRCode" method is called on the found Rectangle object.
In this case, InDesign crashes with an error
<crash exception="EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" exceptionCode="0xc0000005" instruction="0x00007FFD49229914">Creating a QR code manually through the main menu does not cause errors. The error does not occur when the script calls the "createHyperlinkQRCode" method on the Document object. But in this case, I have to point with the…

Random display issue
ID on a Apple M1 Max (OS 12.6) occasionally and randomly makes crazy displays. It is resolved when I quit and reopen the file, but still…
First image is what the document should look like. Second image is what it becomes. Kinda cool, but not my intent.

zoom with touchpad windows
I would like you to make it possible to zoom with the fingers on the touchpad in Windows. It works in illustrator, but not in Indesign, at a PC, in Windows (only on Mac). Could you make this possible? It gives so much better control over the working process

Running very slow
InDesign CC 2023: no matter what settings (I.e. how many times I change the display performance to fast or turn off a lot of features) there is still a 5-7 second delay on every single keystroke, every cursor movement, every selection, etc. etc. That is, if it doesn't just freeze altogether. My document is only 21 pages with minimal text and the images shouldn't be displayed at full resolution anyway, so there's no reason it should be this laggy. No other adobe program has this problem for me at the moment. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program, that didn't work.…

Display issue
Lines and slightly shifted objects. When I scroll up and down theses lines disappear and reappear elsewhere (=> screenshots 2 and 2B). Since the update to CC 2023, these display errors only appear in Indesign, not in other programs.
