1. pdf export failure background task

   hello,

   my indesign (19.4) doesn't want to export the pdf file for print, which is really annoying.

   1) all photos are cmyk;
   2) all colors are cmyk;
   3) if i export the pdf in pages as separate files, it works.

   otherwise no can do. pic attached.

   it is the second project this situation occurs and the first time the workaround was to save the file again, with another name, then work with this new copy.

   also i mention that the indesign file seems very large (177 mega), although it has 42 pages only... may be some pics are big and cannot be rendered properly? i attach a pic from the folder where i exported the pages as pdf files separately. there are pdf having over 300 mega!! crazy.

   i would like to know what's going on... indesign bugs? too large pictures from my side, difficult to render in pdfs for print?

2. world composer opentype

   InDesign 19.4.0.63, two different Mac Studio M2, MacOS 13 and 12.7.4

   1 - Create new document
   2 - Go to Parent, in either page of the default spread, create a text object
   3 - Add TYPE -> ADD SPECIAL CHARACTER -> CURRENT PAGE NUMBER
   4 - Select all, change font of this text object to Minion Pro
   5 - Finally, change it to SMALL CAPS
   6 - Add PAGES -> add over 100 pages

   RESULT:

   • IF the Composer is set to ADOBE PARAGRAPH for that text object,
     • it will appear fine on page 100... the three digit number is properly small caps. ELSE if the Composer is set to ADOBE WORLD READY PARAGRAPH for that text object,
     • small caps disappears after the third digit (the ones-place ZERO in "100") on page 100 and continuing into all other pages after 99.
   • BUT if you add any character after the variable text(Special Character), the format for the third digit corrects itself. Literally as you add more characters before the new-line, the format changes at the start of the paragraph character by character as well.

   You can have the composer set differently for the EVEN versus ODD Special Character Page Number in the spread and see the difference side by side in spread view.

3. 'Text style' (Character/Paragraph) Drop Down Visual Bug

   Adobe InDesign 19.4, Apple M3 Max, Sonoma 14.4 and 14.5 (at least).

   'Text Style' drop downs for character and paragraph show persistent white box, without any of the styles showing. White box blocks UI actions below.

   Occurs randomly, resolves randomly. Restart not guaranteed to fix the issue.

   Expected result: The drop down displays the relevant text styles...
   Actual result: Empty white box...

4. Text justification algorithm is *really* sloppy.

   When the justification is set to "justified," when I add or delete text, text moves down from previous lines, making those earlier lines look really stretched out with huge spaces. This happens constantly. It looks really bad, and there's no logical reason for it.

   This happens whether "Hyphenate" is on or off.

   Each line of text should always hold as many words as it can hold (without shrinking anything to fit). What happens on any later line should never cause any change in previous lines.

   I'm using InDesign v. 19.3 x64 in Windows.

6. Crash on object state rename

   This happens to me regularly. With an object selected, I use the button for Convert selection to multi-state object from the Object States panel. If I then try to rename the states, InDesign immediately quits. Reopening InDesign takes me back to just before I created the MSO.

   I've learned to save immediately after creating MSOs and then rename states. That's my workaround. I thought it would be good to mention though, as it seems related to the old inability to rename states bug that was fixed.

   I'm using ID 19.4 on MacOS Sonoma 14.4.1

7. Design flaw and bug: empty table cells can have a font assigned

   Found in: ID 2022
   If you have a table and put text into a cell, the text has at least one font assigned. When removing the text again, the cell becomes empty but seems to keep the font assignment, which is illogical. No text, no font. Later, if you open the document on another PC which doesn't have that font would cause a missing font issue for no reason.

   Even worse: going into the "Find/replace font" dialog you can find the empty cell with the missing font, but you cannot fix it, because Change or Change all have no effect. The only way to change the font, because you cannot simply unassign, is to select the entire cell and set a font that is available . When you have, like, 100 empty cells it can be a very annoying job to do and might not be circumvented by selecting the entire table and setting the font when non-empty cells have several fonts assigned.

   Found in: ID 2022

8. Publish online - Play videos

   I was trying to play a video in Publish Online there are 4 buttons to play each video but every time I click on one button, it all comes out in one click.

   The links to each button seem all correct but when it comes to playing online it seems the button doesn't control the videos

10. hyperlink removes style

    This is ID 19.4.

    Hello– I have a character style applied to some (but not all) of the text in a TOC (see Attachment 1). As a test, we'll consider the word BELFAST, which has this specific style applied to it: font Roboto Bold, size 10, leading 12, All Caps, PMS 5275 CMYK.

    However, when I use the 'Add Hyperlink' function to the entire text block (from BELFAST to the page #), the previously described style I have applied onto BELFAST is removed (see second attachment).

    The particular TOC I'm showing you is short so no biggie, but I have several of these books and some of the TOCs are quite long so this issue becomes tedious to correct.

    Is there a logical explanation for this, or a bug? Let me know if you need more details. Tx!

12. when importing documents from Word and mapping to paragraph styles

    Everytime I start mapping styles on import InDesign crashes. This is taking up too much time, I have tried exporting/saving the doc as an rtf etc but to no avail. I am running Sonoma 14.4 on a brand new Macbook Pro 16"

13. CC Libraries palette vibrates nonstop

    InDesign ver 19.4, when I click on the CC Libraries palette, the scroll bar and the bottom of the palette vibrates or jumps vertically up and down nonstop. I can't get it to stop. Closing and re-opening the palette didn't help. Restarting ID didn't help. Very distracting when using your libraries palette.

14. When language is set to Polish, InDesign insert American ("") instead of Polish quotes („”)

    This is very annoying thing. Could you please fix it? (In InDesign CS6 it worked like a charm ;) ).

15. Conflict - when I select "e" and I would like to change it to "ę" (Polish special character) with right alt+e, InDesign opens Export dialog.

    Please, remove the Export dialog in this particular situation, this is super annoying.

    I'm using the newest InDesign (19.4 x64), Polish version and Windows 11 (23H2)

16. Request: import of layers when placing a child INDD

    At the moment, there is only the option in the extended Place dialog to switch layers of the placed child INDD on or off. Switching layers of a child object should be possible in the parent INDD. Would be way more convenient than right-clicking every child object and select the Layer options.

17. Published Online Document Not Loading

    The links from publishing online are all down and not working. "Document Not Found" after latest InDesign update. Really need this fixed as it's super important to our workflow.

19. PNGs will often export at low resolution unless "high quality display" is selected

    I have a graphic which includes a cropped part of a PDF which is a CAD drawing. I select it all, export to a PNG at 600dpi. Put it into Word and when I zoom in it's fairly pixelated: definitely not 600dpi.

    If I select the placed PDF, turn the display performance to "High Quality Display" and re-export, it's a beautiful 600dpi file. This screams "bug" to me.

    I'll add this to another bug report of mine, which is that if a link is modified or missing, you won't get a warning when exporting a PNG that uses it (you just get the lo-res preview in your graphic).

20. eyedropper tool

    Since 19.4 the eyedropper tool doesn't work as it should for at least picking up a character style and 'paste' its character style onto one or more words. This is when no text is selected.
    When text IS selected, I can pick up a character style from some text that is styled like I want it to, and 'paste' it onto one or more other consecutive words, but not for a second time onto some other (string of) words. So only once useful. Which makes it unusable for this purpose.
