Myself and my colleagues are now having the same issue now that we have updated our Adobe Indesigns.

Pretty please fix!!

I am also having this problem on macOS Catalina with the most recent Indesign 15.0.2

If you create a package in a specific folder, no matter if you move the files or not, when you open that .indd file again (wherever it is now) it will recreate the Package folder and the sub-folder Document Fonts in the same exact place as where the InDesign document was originally created.

At this point, with the amount of materials I've made in the last month (I work for a health agency) there's no possible way I will ever be able to track down and locate all of the 'orphaned' package folders that InDesign has created in our system.

Hi Adobe, please can you guys fix this because it's becoming a real problem. I package documents regularly and as a result, I now have multiple files being saved on to our server and it's creating a lot of confusion.

Of course my suggestions are workarounds.
May I ask why "Quit InDesign" and "Restart InDesign" does not work for you?
What happens if you open the document you did the package from after restarting InDesign?

In my tests on Windows 10 this is stopping the behavior of adding a new folder with a Document fonts folder only that contains a lst file.

Same problem here. Deleting the wrong folder could result of this bug :/

Same! Really annoying for files to keep being "un"deleted.

Uwe Laubender This is not a solution, this is a work around, on top of that restarting indesign doesn't solve it at all

the solution:
Uninstall InDesign 15.0.2.323 and re-install version 15.0.1.

Or if you want to keep the current version:

1. Package your document.
2. Quit InDesign
3. Open InDesign and work on until you have to package a document.

I see the issue as well with my German InDesign 15.0.2.323 on Windows 10.

My experience with the bug is this:

1. Package the active document with Links, Document fonts, IDML and PDF to the suggested folder of function Package For Print.
2. Move the folder of the package to a different folder.
3. Close the active document .

4. Here comes the bug:
In the moment* you are using InDesign's Open command with the ORIGINAL InDesign document you packaged before, a new folder is created. The name of that new "ghost folder" is the same of the moved packaging folder. The folder's position in the file system is the same of the packaged folder where it was created before. The contents of this new folder is a Document fonts folder with one single file: AdobeFnt21.lst

If you open a different document that was not packaged in the same session the new "ghost folder" is not created. I define session as "Start InDesign" to "Quit InDesign".

If you also move or remove the "ghost folder" it will be re-created if you open the document where the once packaged folder was created from.

One can stop that behavior: Quit InDesign. Restart InDesign.

* I know this exact moment because I have a eventlistening script installed that opens the folder of any exported file in the file system. It looks if the event "afterExport" is fired.

Same here: after creating a package and moving or deleting the Documents folder (we use it to collect all images) it keeps reapearing...

We consider this dangerous, because you could end up deleting the wrong folder! Please fix this...

With a database that includes +20K individual folders, which each have their artwork and elements, the duplication of folders is a major inconvenience, to say the least.

Noticed something strange today. I put a packaged folder hierarchy into the trash, but it only contained the main folder, the Document fonts folder and the Links folder, but NONE of the contents and it did not contain the AdobeFnt21.lst file. However, within moments, a duplicate appeared on my desktop with the main folder, the Document fonts folder and the AdobeFnt21.lst file.

I am having the same problem, plus a problem linking my fonts and connecting to Adobe Fonts as well.

This is a MAJOR catastrophic issue. File packages are being permanently lost due to being overwritten by the "empty" package that is inadvertently generated when opening an INDD file. When opening an INDD file a new package is created in random locations, and that new package only contains the AdobeFont.lst. This is causing major confusion in our workflow, as employees think this new "empty" package is the latest package, thus moving it to its proper location in our backup system and overwriting the actual package that contains the INDD and links. Artwork that has taken hours to complete gone forever. We cannot alter our workflow to accommodate this ridiculous bug. Adobe needs to make this fix a priority. Indesign needs to function properly and URGENTLY.

This is a major **** ache! Same problem as everyone else... InDesign 15.0.2 running on MacOS Catalina 10.15.3
