Fehlercode 4/Errorcode 4 for not damaged documents
- Adobe Indesin CC 13.01 After the last Update of Indesign time by time suddenly Indesign report a damaged file if you try to open any InDesign-Document.
Everytime after restarting the Mac everything is good and I'm fortunally able to open all o these documents.
Sometimes restarting Indesign helps, but not always.
The last 3 days it happens much to often und it nervs.
This issue has been fixed.

My colleague has encountered two documents encountering error code 4. Both magazines nearing completion. We are FURIOUS and concerned the work is lost. We have backed-up, but even an old back-up file is doing the same. All files are local. What is the solution please Adobe? I am now concerned my system will do the same. We're both running Mac OS X High Sierra, 10.13.4, InDesign CC 13.0.1.

Error code 4 appears every now and again. Last time I followed the advise to clear the Adobe InDesign cache from the Library and it worked. Now I don't even see an Adobe Indesign folder in my caches so I have nothing to delete.

I don't work on a network, I work from home and this problem has been interfering with my work for the past six months or more. I have the latest version of Sierra installed and am meticulous about updating, avoiding dodgy images and fonts etc. I've also come close to a nervous breakdown more times than I'd like to recall just because of InDesign either suddenly freezing or crashing, refusing to let me save documents or open documents that have involved a huge amount of work. I'd thought the problem was connected to intermittent drops in broadband access but from the number of complaints from other users it seems there is a serious flaw either at Adobe or Apple's end.

This has been happening to me every day. The files are not damaged. I have to shut down InDesign to open anything. It does not only happen when my MacBook pro is asleep. it happens if I have 2 files open and work on one for awhile, then go back and now they are both "damaged". Also whenever I open InDesign, I have no workspace shown although the dropdown says I have the essentials open. I have to switch to Printing and Proofing workspace to have any tools.
After my laptop is asleep Indesign shows up in the far corner of my monitor, not where it was. This has been going on for months and is a terrible waste of my time.

This Errorcode 4 happens to me almost every day.

Also, I to daily delete the "InDesign SavedData" file to get back features like the pallet fly-out menus.
I am on a network and my MAC guy makes sure my laptop communicates well with/through it.
I do work from home half the time using a clone of my server on a Rugged solid state drive (overseen by my MAC guy).
Closing InDesign usually works, but sometimes two times.
Switching from my network to my Rugged drive is not necessary the problem. I cannot duplicate the Errorcode 4. It just happens at random, many times multiple times a day.
I am the only user accessing the files.
I can get the error both by clicking on the file or by File Open.
Again, I cannot repeat the problem, it just happens, daily, for months.

Happens to me regularly. ID 13.1, MBP 2017 running 10.13.4.
Not only that, but InDesign then forgets what my workspace is supposed to look like. I regularly have to reset it.

This happens to me daily (and has for the last month or so). I have to restart InDesign every time. I am on a 2016 MacBook Pro - running High Sierra 10.13.4 (just updated the system 3 days ago, but still having the error issue)

This is happening on our production machines every day. Everyone has to perform multiple restarts in a day to get files to open. Restarting computers temporarily fixes the issue, but it keeps coming back.

Same thing here; if I have a document open -- and it seems to happen if I have InDesign open/running for a long time -- if I try to open another InDesign file it'll tell me it's damaged (error code 4). I quit, relaunch InDesign (sometimes via CC menubar, sometimes just double-clicking the suspect document) and everything is fine.
Like the OP, this has been happening only since the last update.

Hi,
Just adding some more details. Maybe it might help.
I sometimes run both Indesign cc 2018 and Indesign cc 2017 at the same time, and when the error occurs, it affects both Indesign programs. I tried closing just one but still got the error with the other. So I had to close both programs before I could open any Indd file in either program.
So it doesn't seem to be specific to the latest Indesign program.

I keep trying to open ID files, and get the following message: "Cannot open "xxxxx." The file "xxxxx" is damaged (error code 4).
then I quit out of indesign, and open the file, and it's fine.
But if I then want to open another file: the issue is still there.

We are having this issue 1-2 times a week. We are running on Mac OS High Sierra and Adobe CC2018 (all apps up-to-date). In our case the documents are damaged and can't be opened any more! InDesign crashes when trying to open them, never mind if you open the original or a copy. Every InDesign also crashes at start-up until the autosave file isn't deleted manually. So this is really annoying... plese fix this issue asap, Adobe!

I have had this happen also. Not a great fix, but if you exit out of InDesign and then try to open the file again, it usually opens.

I am having exactly the same problem. I updated my OS to Sierra (huge mistake i've now realised) and updated all my Adobe apps. Now when i create a new document, save it, then come back to it i get the damaged file (error code 4) and the work is lost. Yesterday it happened twice when i tried to save the open file. Have just checked all my files for today and everyone is now damaged and lost. Unbelievable

I cannot open some files created in older versions of InDesign, including 13.0. I am often getting "error 4" messages with the not that the file is damaged. I have tried double clicking on the file directly as well as going through File>Open. Normally, files just open...I've never ad an issue with previous builds of InDesign. I am using the latest version of Indesign cc 2018 (13.0.1) on High Sierra, the files are on my local drive.

I just went from a MACBook Pro Mid 2012, 2.6 GHz Intel Copre i7, 16GB1600 MHz DDR3 memory...

The above and all my machines have been maintained for 25 years by a Apple Certified Consultant, ACTC / ACMT / MTC+
Two days ago I created a simple InDesign file at my home office—no links, just a couple of simple vector logos from Illustrator.
Yesterday at work I threw the packaged folder on my network. I then went to open it and it read that the file was corrected.
So I fired up my old laptop and opened the file with no problems.
Also, yesterday I opened a A7 envelope created in InDesign a few months ago (also on the server) to merge the addresses with a new data source. The file also has no links, just a simple vector logo. I replaced the .TXT file and hit merge and the dreaded "Bad Placeholders" message came up. Fortunately the database was small so I went through it with a fine comb nothing wrong with it. I then created a brand new file, set the mapping files and the merge went fine, no problems.
I then went back to try to get the old one to work by saving the file as a "Save As," deleting the text box and creating a new one, deleting and relinking the data source, etc.. Never could get it to work. I did not try to save it to the desktop. I will try that later.

The same problem here. It does not matter whether it is opened directly via the server or locally. I'm working on an iMac 5K (SSD / APFS) – with all the software updates. Server has no SSD and is on MacOS 10.6.X.
A restart (and just that) of InDesign usually fixes the problem. BUT, lately my co-worker can not work on files that have been edited by me recently (on the server). A message will then be displayed like «the file is already open».
