The same problem here. It does not matter whether it is opened directly via the server or locally. I'm working on an iMac 5K (SSD / APFS) – with all the software updates. Server has no SSD and is on MacOS 10.6.X.
A restart (and just that) of InDesign usually fixes the problem. BUT, lately my co-worker can not work on files that have been edited by me recently (on the server). A message will then be displayed like «the file is already open».
