InDesign performance issue: Text disappears while editing
When editing a text box, the text disappears.
I have to switch the display mode (Overview > Normal or Normal > Overview) to make the text appear again.
This bug occurs frequently (10~20 times a day) but I did not identify what is the trigger.
Version 2017.1
Build 12.1.0.56 x64
Windows 10 x64
We're happy to announce that the fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign - version 17.2 that is available to download from Creative Cloud Desktop application.
Please update to this latest InDesign version to get the fix.

Partial fix: press Page Up and Page Down to make the text re-appear.

Remember when InDesign was the solution to Quark's horrible customer service?

Disappearing text makes ID unusable. Is Quark still around?

I'm on an M1 MacBook Pro with the latest everything and this problem is making my work flow to a crawl. Every time I make ANY CHANGE in a text box (including typing anything, cutting and pasting, etc.) all the text disappears and i have to adjust the View to make it reappear. I am on deadline. HELP.

This is happening to me too! I start typing in a text box and the text keeps disappearing, reappearing, disappearing, etc. If I zoom in or out it shows up again, but it's literally every few seconds when editing a text box.

Same issue here, InDesign 2021 (16.3.2), Macbook Pro 13 M1 2020.
Annoying, all day the same thing, have to press W every time to switch between previews so the text could be visible again. -

This is a huge annoyance. Please fix! I am on the newest M1 MacBook Pro as well. I didn't have this issue with the Airbook..

Still doing it. seems creative suite is getting less reliable each year. Did Microsoft take over the developing lol?

Just to understand this better, I am using :
>>> InDesign CS6, version 8.0 ---because I do NOT want to pay the much MUCH higher cost for an ongoing subscription, as I use ID only intermittently these days, although I am highly experienced/professional-level user.It is my understanding that if I upgrade, I will no longer be able to use this CS6 inDesign without upgrading to the predatory-priced subscription. I have one (small) client for whom I need indesign, but I ALSO need continued access to my older personal files.
Am I correct or mistaken?
I am using an iMac, Mac OS High Sierra, 10.13.6

It happens to me too on the latest 2021 update (16.3.2) and the one before, running on the M1 Macbook Air. But not just 10-20 times a day, literally every textbox I click on to edit does this as fast as I edit the text. The text will show again if I randomly add a few more characters or resize the text box, it is very annoying.

Just got the latest iMac 24" and I too am having the same difficulty for the first time ever and it's slowing me down incredibly having to zoom in and out, or select ignore text wrap, or change from normal to preview mode.
Apparently this has been going on for years and for the money we spend, it's totally unacceptable!!!

Just made the mistake of updating from a 2019 version to 2021. Never had the problem before, now I do. I see this has been going on for years.
What do you need to edit text for anyway? Why do you need to see it? Adobe just doesn't care, as it doesn't about the hundreds of other things people have been screaming about with each change.

agreed. I can't stand it. About every three seconds.. the text disappears. I have to zoom the screen to see it again . incredibly frustrating. Running the latest version from the creative cloud.

This is not being addressed at all. It's now July and InDesign should work natively with an official release (16.3) on M1 Macs.
Why this is not a priority is beyond me, I'm considering sending back my iMac while I still can and go back to windows. I love the iMac, but I can't work like this. -

PLEASE make it stop! It's horrible to work like this.
I just updated to the latest Indesign and have a new MacBook Air M1 -

This driving me nuts too! Taking forever to do my work. I too have latest mac and os and latest version of InDesign. For such expensive subscription costs it would be nice if basic functions actually worked
