1. InDesign 2025 IDML File cannot be placed into InDesign 2024

   When saving a document created / edited in InDesign 2025 as an IDML, the resulting IDML file cannot be placed into an InDesign 2024 document.

   The error dialog states "Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation."

2. .ai background not transparant

   Illustrators imports in InDesign are always transparent, ever since i started with it back in the last century. I have tried making it .eps and Tiff without result. What's going on? Can anybody help me?

4. Unable to update a merged file. Error message

   Hello, updating the contents of the fields of an already merged file does not work. Error message from InDesign that cannot open a file. An error message appears and all pages already generated are destroyed.

5. Project goes blank

   I've been using the new Indesign 20.0 and it will often go blank to a completely grey screen in the working area. I can see the toolbar, and even the image gizmo but none of the actual content. I tried switching preview modes and to presentation mode and nothing works besides just quitting out and opening it back up. It seems to happen when it's been in the background for a while and I switch back to it. It's extremely frustrating. I'm on a Macbook Pro M3 maxed out specs on Mac OS Sequia 15.0.1 (24A348).

   This may be related but even when the content is visible and I'm trying to re-position my images in their frames I can't see the box outline or handles. Whats odd is when the content goes blank I can see the image outline and handles. Not sure if the box/handle color is blending in with my background or what is going on, I just have to hover my mouse and guess where an edge is. That is a constant issue. I had tried to see if i could change the color of the box/handles but it doesn't seem so. Also very frustrating.

6. Little Black Lines and Delay When Dragging

   When resizing a picture box in InDesign 20.0, little black lines appear along the box's edge (see attached). I've tried to lower the quality of the images in Preferences > Display Performance (see attached). I've also turned off animated zoom in Preferences > GPU Performance (see attached). I'm running an M3 Max 14-inch Nov 2023 MacBook Pro, Sequoia 15.1 (see attached Graphic/Displays details). These lines don't print, and they go away if I zoom in or out on the document. I believe this also only happens when the document view is at Fit to Page, but I'm not 100% sure. Also, there is a delay when I try to drag elements on the page. I click on a picture box, start dragging it, and it take a second to start moving. This never happened before with this computer. I've had it since December 2023. Thanks for any help you can provide.

   Severity Level: Critical
   Impact: Severe disruption to Hebrew text layout workflow and document integrity

   Bug Description

   Punctuation marks are randomly disappearing in justified Hebrew text blocks (RTL direction), specifically at:
   - Paragraph endings
   - Forced line breaks
   - Last lines of justified paragraphs

   Technical Context

   • Text Direction: Right-to-Left (RTL)
   • Language: Hebrew
   • Text Alignment: Justified

   Affected Punctuation Marks

   • Periods (.)
   • Semicolons (;)
   • Commas (,)
   • Colons (:)

   Specific Behavior in RTL Context

   1. When Hebrew text is set to justified alignment, punctuation marks vanish:
      • At the end of paragraphs
      • Before forced line breaks
   2. Exception: Punctuation marks remain visible if the last line is explicitly right-aligned
   3. The issue appears to be specific to RTL text direction and does not occur in LTR text

   Known Workarounds and Their Limitations

   1. Legacy Composition Engine Option:

      • While switching to the legacy composition engine in preferences resolves this specific issue
      • We strongly advise against this solution due to:
        • Previously reported bugs and limitations in the legacy engine (see bug reports #ID-4245219)
        • Performance issues documented in our earlier reports
        • Compatibility concerns with newer features
      • We require a proper fix in the current composition engine rather than reverting to legacy solutions

   2. Temporary Layout Workaround:

      • Right-align the last line of affected paragraphs
      • This is not viable for production as it:
        • Affects layout consistency
        • Requires constant manual intervention
        • Disrupts automated workflows

   Technical Impact

   • Compromises Hebrew document accuracy
   • Requires constant manual checking and fixes
   • Disrupts automated workflows for Hebrew text processing
   • May lead to incorrect final output in published Hebrew materials

   Immediate attention required as this bug:

   Steps to Reproduce

   1. Set paragraph direction to RTL
   2. Create a Hebrew text block with justified alignment
   3. Type a paragraph ending with any punctuation mark
   4. Add forced line breaks within the paragraph

8. Black block

   Instead of text there are these black rectangles - only on parts of it. When I placed the text it was ok, but then it randomly switched to this. It still somehow detects text there but I cannot see it. I converted the doc to the previous Indesign version but the issue is still here.

9. Workspace grays out when active files are left open and computer goes to sleep

   When I leave files open and come back to them after some time, the workspace is completely greyed out. I can select objects but cannot see any of them. This was happening in the prior version of InDesign as well.

11. [ID-4253057]Autonumbering in Hide Spreads is not working for Text Variables -> Insert Variable -> Last Page Number

    Text variable "Last page number" does not update with Hide Spread.

    With the newest update hiding spreads works automatically updates the pagination. This does not however change the "Last page number" variable. I often use this for screen presentations to display page X/X.

    This seems like a simple oversight in the update, but would be nice to have fixed.

12. [ID-4257194]page numbers on documents don't match page numbers in book window or pages pane

    Ever since InDesign updated from version 19.5 to version 20, the current page number marker on my master pages will not sync. Now, every document in my book just starts from page 1. So, in other words, every chapter starts over at page 1. Please help. I've included a screen grab of my problem. You'll see that the page numbers on the actual document don't match the page numbers indicated in the pages window or in the book window. I've redone the marker in the master pages and resynced, but no dice...

    To resolve this issue, please click on the 'Update page and section numbers' option (present in the book panel's hamburger menu) after opening any book(created in any previous version) for the first time in 20.0

13. In Arabic OpenType-SVG fonts, glyphs shift seemingly randomly in all directions

    In Arabic fonts with SVG table, glyphs move up, down, left, and right seemingly randomly, and typing more text or adding vowel marks change how the glyphs are shifted.

    If the fonts are processed to remove the SVG table, they work fine (but color glyphs are not colored, obviously).

    Illustrator and Photoshop do not have this issue, and the font with SVG table works normally.

    I tested this with https://github.com/aliftype/raqq/blob/main/fonts/Raqq.ttf as well as https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Reem+Kufi+Ink.

14. [ID-4256710]InDesign 20.0 is unable to open INDD files without any error or alert

    InDesign 20.0 can't open some files - they start to open and then the process is just somehow cancels and nothing happens. No error - you can try again but the files doesn't open.

    I have macOS 15.1 on a 2.4GHz 8-core Intel Core i9 macBook Pro

15. InDesign 20.0 Dictionary defaults to Croatian and not English

    When spell checking a document the dictionary catches every word because it's defaulting to Croatian and not English. all other settings and preferences within InDesign are specified as English.

16. InDesign 2025 / v20.0: »background task« tries to activate font all the time

    Working with the font Minion Pro InDesign 2025 wants to activate the font in the background (shown in the background tasks panel) although it IS activated.

    Closing the document does not bother InDesign. It still wants to activate the font (see screenshot 2).

    Quit & Restart helps, but it should work correctly without it.

18. Unable to move the ID app window to a different location on my screens.

    After the 20.0 update, when I open the ID app, it snaps to my main laptop monitor and I am unable to move it to my secondary monitor. My work around is to stretch it to the secondary monitor and slowly ease it off of my laptop monitor. When I finally ********* my secondary monitor. I'm unable to move it out of the center of the monitor.

19. How to Fix Panels Opening Half Off-Screen on the Right?

    Adobe InDesign 2025 (v20.0) running on an Apple iMac, Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019 with MacOS Sequoia 15.0.1

    When I have my panels-window set close to the right side of my screen and I click for example on the links-panel, it will open on the left side of the panels-window.
    When I have my panels-window set locked to the right side of my screen (or however it is called) and I click on the links-pnale, it will open on the right side of the panels-window and disapear by half.

    When I go to Scale of UsersInterface (see screenshot) and I slide the bullit to small (klein) then the problem is solved. BUT, then everything in the panels is (to) small 😞

20. [ID-4257175]Pages Panel: Buttons are hidden behind page number text when window is thin

    When the pages panel is as thin as possible, the buttons such as delete page are behind the text that says the number of pages. It is therefore not possible to click on the buttons. I always use this panel in a thin band, and it is now less practical.
