1. Endnotes and multi-language layers

   InDesign CC 13.1

   As a long-time user of ID, I want to report what looks to me like a serious bug.

   Working on a multi-language book project for the first time since the endnotes feature was introduced, I noticed that when importing the second language on a separate layer (as I have been doing for many years without any problems) the endnotes are imported with correct references in the text but the notes themselves lose their numbers, showing the dreaded <?> instead.
   Trying to work around the problem using David Blatner's DTP tools' "import layers" feature gives the same result.
   It is my experience that the Introduction of the second language with its notes also jumbles up the arrangement of the notes of the first language (which were alright to begin with).

   Since we are making books in simultaneously published language editions all the time, the possibility to combine the use of both endnotes and layers is crucial. Now, in the middle of the project I had to revert to the old ways with separate files for separate languages, which is a pain as you can imagine.

   I would even settle for forgoing the assets of the endnotes function and working with "dead" endnotes—as I have been doing for so many years—in order to regain the benefit of using layers, but, unfortunately, this version of ID does not allow me to import the notes as normal text.

2. dictionary

   Dictionary does not use USA English. Settings are for USA but dictionary finds error in spelling of "labor" only accepting "labour"

3. Stroke Alignment Changes Shape Size

   InDesign 13.0.1

   Steps to Reproduce:
   1. Create a shape (Rectangle, Circle, Polygon)
   2. Add stroke to shape
   3. Change stroke alignment

   Expected Result:
   - Stroke changes alignment to what the user set (inside, outside, centered).

   Actual Result:
   - Shape size (and bounding box) change, while stroke remains aligned inside the bounding box.

   The stroke is always shown inside the bounding box for all three types of stroke alignments. But if you check the size of the object, it will be different for different stroke alignments.
   For example, if you have a square of 100 pt x 100 pt with a 20 pt stroke weight aligned to Center, its W & H = 120 pt. Similarly for the same square, if the stroke is aligned to Inside, its W & H = 100 pt while for stroke aligned to Outside, its W & H = 140 pt.

   This is how it has been designed.

4. Dialog Box Disappears

   From time to time the Move dialogue box will not show up when called using the hotkey Shift-Command-M. InDesign then thinks a dialogue box is open and will not perform other tasks. You cannot exit the phantom dialogue box with escape. You cannot save your document. You cannot quit InDesign without manually force quitting.

   I am on Mac High-Sierra OS 10.13.1 (17B1003) and the latest Creative Cloud version of InDesign. I have had this happen on multiple computers and on multiple versions of InDesign.

   I do not have multiple monitors - however, I do use the Spaces function on the Mac OS and have multiple desktop spaces set up. I have tried passing through each of these to try and find the box and close it using escape, but it does not work.

   This problem does not happen all of the time, however seems to trigger when using the Move dialogue frequently in a fast-paced work environment.

5. Open Sans

   Open Sans not working in Indesign 13.0.1. Have cleared font cache, reinstalled clean font from google and still it doesn't recognise it.

6. Missing item in startup screen should be removed

   If I move a document on my hard drive, of course it’s gonna be missing in the recent items of inDesign. (normal)
   At that moment, instead of « missing doc -> OK » i should have :
   « missing doc -> remove from recent docs / Ok »
   * OK would do the exact same thing, closing the message window and leaving the icon/item there.
   * remove would remove it from the list so that I don’t see it again and mistakenly click it again.
   Why keeping the « OK » item at all ? So that I can keep track of a moved file if i didn’t want, or was on an external removed drive, and will find it again next time it is plugged/mounted.

7. GREP variables $1 (and so on) not working

   GREP variables $1 (and so on) are not working. $0 brings the found text, $1 just replaces with $1.

8. Data Merge, Export To Pdf - Record Limit per Document

   The "Record Limit per Document" feature, when doing as Export to PDF data merge, does not work. If I try to export a 6 record pdf, with the Record Limit per Document set to 1, instead of 6 files, I get one.

9. English (UK) dictionary apparently not working

   Why, when I have set things to PROPER English rather than American English, is the spellchecker still working in Mericanese?

   The attached will show British spellings being highlighted as wrong, yet PROPER English selected in preferences.

   You can select the text frame and change the language in the Control panel
   or you can select a specific portion of text, say a word, in a frame and change the language for that in the Control panel.

   If you want to change the application’s default language, in a no document state, edit the [Basic Paragraph] style in the Paragraph Styles panel (in Advanced Character Formats) category.

10. Incompatible with Windows 10, won't even open

    My Windows 10 laptop simply will not open InDesign.

12. Adobe inDesign is shutting down

    Adobe in Design is shutting dow. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents. This happened when importing an image cmd D.

13. Find/Change | Glyph | Failure to find characters with applied character styles

    Version: Adobe InDesign 19.5.4 and 20.3.1

    I cannot post a .zip here apparently, so I've put my InDesign file.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Make a character style that ONLY sets the font to bold.
    2. put down a glyph twice, I used the AE glyph (GID/CID 138).
    3. For one, apply bold manually.
    4. For the other, apply the bold character style.
    5. Open the Find/Change Glyph menu and enter the GID/CID used, along with the font and bold style.

    Expected Result:
    Both of the glyphs would be found

    Actual Result:
    Only the glyph without the character style applied will be found.

    As listed in multiple other reports, managing missing glyphs is a major pain point.

    Version: Adobe InDesign 19.5.4 and 20.3.1

14. Eyedropper tool should not copy content fill by default.

    I don't think I have ever needed to copy the content fill settings from one image frame to another, but by default the eyedropper tool copies how the photo fills the frame, which is pretty annoying.

    Requested Feature: Please add a checkbox specifically for content fill. Please have it unchecked by default.

    Right now you can only disable content fill from being apply by unchecking "color and tint," which doesn't make sense and is not intuitive.

    Expectation 1: eyedrop a frame to copy it's color/stoke/ other attributes, but not content fill which changes the size/position of the image within the frame
    Result 1: eyedrop tool copies content fill, requiring me to reposition the photo again, or manually update other attributes.

    Expectation 2: after learning you could potentially change what attributes the eyedropper changes, I looked for something like "content fill" but found nothing.

    Result 2: By process of elemination, I fouund that "Color and Tint" disabled content fill from being copied.

15. Icon not showing in Windows File Explorer

    InDesign v20.3 shows blank square in Windows File Explorer, instead of INDD Icon. Opens as expected in InDesign 2025.

    I have already done icon cache rebuild, repair install, and reset file associations.

    BTW The reason why it's important: InDesign icon isn't just cosmetic. It’s a visual anchor that helps you quickly pick .indd files out from folders full of images, PDFs, and links. Losing that icon seriously hurts workflow — especially in design-heavy environments with lots of asset types.

17. Crash/Error Reporting & (non)Solutions

    I have been using Adobe products since the beginning. After a crash, I have not ever once had the Error Report that 'searches for a solution or workaround' come back with any solution—working or not. Has anyone ever had a useful solution or workaround come back? Just me?? I am guessing it is still valuable to send the reports, although not sure about that either.

18. Bug: Cannot cancel or requeue background tasks, ID keeps activating fonts for good

    Indesign 2024, Windows 10.
    Problem 1: even with Adobe Fonts being activated, ID 2024 starts to activate fonts it finds in \Fonts folder, doing that for good and the tasks cannot be canceled.
    Problem 2: other tasks, like PDF export, are then queued and cannot be processed at all unless you could move them up the queue, which doesn't work.

19. "recent" files date modified

    It's January 2 and all my recent files (updated within the last couple weeks or month, meaning December) are showing up as being from "1 year ago" which is not quite true.

20. data merge images

    InDesign 20.0.1 on MaxOS 15.1.1 (24B91), the Data merge for images does not work. There are no errors or warmings, but upon previewing, exporting or merging the images to not populate. The same data file and downsaved indd file (ver 19) works.
