  1. Endnotes placement needs to be adjusted

The way books work is that the notes to a chapter fall immediately after the end of the text, not on a new page. Please change this feature so that we can force the notes to a new page if that's how we want them, but they normally fall after the end of the text. Other than that, the dynamic endnotes feature will be nice when someone decides to add or delete notes.

  2. Equivalent to Ai's 'Hide Edes' to hide selection higlighting

When choosing a color or a font for text, it's very hard to judge the appearance when the selected text is hilighted/inversed.
A function like Illustrator's 'Hide Edges' (cmd-H) would be of great help, to invisible select text.

  3. Paragraph Styles Larger Tab Markers

I use windows 11 with a display settings at 125% scale and monitors set to 3440x1440 resolution. I use a magnified mouse cursor as well. When using the Paragraph Styles Tab feature, the tab stop markers are so small it makes it very difficult to select them to adjust their position. I would like to see the User Interface designed with larger tab stop markers or a dialogue box that allows for input of the left align and hanging indent settings.

  4. Find/Change "negatively" on a paragraph/character/object property (i.e., look for a style set to anything BUT 13pt)

It would be nice if find/change had to ability to search for everything BUT something. For example, if I had a style named "text" where the leading was defined as 13pt but I wanted to only find instances where the leading was NOT set the 13pt because of some local override. But these overrides might be 14pt or 15pt, but that would required 2 or more separate searches. I don't necessarily know how many paragraphs have been locally overridden from the set 13 unless I page through and look for each paragraph by sight. I realize the local…

  5. Please give the option to remove the "home" bar (the one with the house on it)

In indesign, there is currently no way I can find to remove this bar that wants to live at the very top of my screen. I don't use it, it takes up valuable space and it has no purpose (at least for me). I want the option to turn it off, just like I can turn off the frame (which I don't use either). thank you
ps adobe support told me to post here for the issue.

  6. MSO Hidden Default State

Currently, to revert back to an MSO not being visible after one or more of the states have been active, you have to create atop-level "blank" state that contains an empty frame of some sort, and show that state.

This seems like a workaround that should be built-in. Maybe a few new choices can be added to the "Show/Hide" options in a button's choices:

    • Reset "X" MSO to invisible state
    • Rest all MSO's to invisible state

    ...or something similar.

    Thanks!!

  7. A more efficient indexing system for book files.

A more efficient indexing system for book files would be ideal. Also, when using the Index window, it would be great if the window could stay open and allow me to continue entering words. If I don't select desired text, enter index reference, "add all," then close the window, it doesn't populate correctly.
It would be ideal for me to keep the window open, enter desired text (without selecting in the file), click "add all," then continue with more entries .

  8. Gradient Angle should be saved in Swatches

Colour gradients can only be saved linearly without angles.
It would be nice if the angle could also be saved in the colour gradient, especially for texts and lines.

  9. Export from InDesign to Adobe Express with frames & keep the frames as frames not as shapes that can't be filled with photos or color.

Export documents containing frames from InDesign to Adobe Express & keep the frames as frames not converting them to shapes that cannot be filled with photos or color.
I'm working on a project with a document created in Adobe InDesign, which may have photos, fill colors, or be blank to fill in Adobe Express. When I export to Adobe Express, the frames convert into elements/shapes, preventing me from placing photos or changing the fill color. This limits my ability to design efficiently and uniformly. Recreating in Express or using new boxes and masking doesn't solve the…

  10. Vertical Type

Please add a Vertical Type tool like the one that is in Illustrator and Photoshop. The method of typing each letter on a line and returning after each is fine, but more time-consuming than it needs to be. The other method, using Type on a Path with a straight line and the stair step effect, does not produce aligned text.

  11. Protect approved text or pages. Properly lock text, objects or layers so that Ctrl Z doesn't undo the lock

Sometimes when I am doing multiple Ctrl-Zs on a page it flicks back to an article on a previous page and undoes that too. If that has been previously approved and Ctrl Z makes changes I miss, that's a problem, especially if I press another key by mistake before I can do re-do. It would be very useful to properly lock approved content so that Ctrl-Z doesn't affect it. A default option would be great.

  12. Make a real collaboration with InDesign/InCopy via CC

It was hard to see, that InCopy is still using E-Mail to collaborate with editors on another place. I thought it's all in the CC!! For this is a must have: I'm sharing an InDesign-document (or parts of it) save it for my incopy-editor. The editor gets a notification (email or instant) and will open it and makes changes and new content, save it and the designer gets a notification that there is new content from editor xy. He can now accept this and the new content is inside the InDesign-document. Finish.
But ash the moment it's very hard to…

  13. Duplicate Spread n times

In some occasions, I use InDesign to collect Photoshop or Illustrator artwork.
In that case, I create a page with a Rectangle Frame, Auto-Fit checked.
When I need e.g. 20 of these, I have to duplicate many times 1-2-4-8-16 etc.
Why not add a number to the duplicate function?

  14. MacBook Pro Touchbar

To format text and paragraphs in InDesign I use shortcuts all the time. In really increases my work speed. Unfortunately these only work with a number pad. The MacBook Pro doesn't have a number pad. Could you extend this funktion to either other keys, the touchbar or fn-key combinations?

  15. Clear Overrides in Proprieties Panel

Proprieties panel is great, for text boxes however we need a little more in the text styles section, like a clear overrides button from the paragraph styles window

  16. Better handling of vertical text on a path

I can't get proper spacing on a vertical list of numbers. inDesign is still treating the spacing as if it's horizontal. None of the 400 numbers are spaced properly. Unfortunately the customer has to use canvas to make it work. InDesign should do this easily and be able to use data merge for numbering.

  17. Character Style contestual to Paragraph Style

Suppose you have a text, for example an introduction, with some word (i.e. titles) in Italic in it. Now you decide that this text must be in Italic. So, all the titles in it that were in Italic must be in plain.
In CSS this is easy to do; you'll have something like span.title { font-style: italic; } with the variant p.intro span.title { font-style: normal; }.
I think it's a necessity quite frequent. In other similar scenario you may have to use different colors, different weights.

  18. Display progress bar for long operations

When working with a big document, there are many operations that take a very long time. For example, generating a TOC, deleting pages that cause text to reflow, etc. Tasks that happen almost instantly with reasonably sized documents can take many minutes when we get into 500+ pgs.

Currently we only see a spinning beachball (mac) when we get stuck in a long task. There's no way to determine whether it's just going to take a long time, or if indesign is completely locked up. The system sees it as "application not responding," but a lot of times patience pays…

We can change text across multiple open documents, it would be really handy if you could do the same with fonts too.

  20. Please add the possibility to create the page height below 73px.

Especially for the design of web banners sometimes a smaller page height is important.
Despite frame distances of 0px and web setting an error message appears with a page height of 72px or lower.
